6:20 once again proving that climate change is not a danger but a natural part of solar system. (beause, FYI, evefy other planet is warming too at same rate. its not _only_ earth)
Red Wolves are even rarer at just over 100, but still. These are such beautiful and unique creatures, and they deserve to be protected.

They're even rarer now. Their peak numbers in the wild were back in 2012 at about 120 individuals. There is now only about 20 in the wild as of the beginning of 2024. 😢

I wis red wolves got more attention, their close to extinction at 22 in the wild estimated and 263 in captivity. Bringing them back and thinning coyotes may help with deer and wild pigs rampant in their hoe range of south.southeast US

I live in NC and love the Red Wolf. But have they decided it is its own species or what? Last I knew they were hesitant to classify them as anything more than natural hybrids of wolves and coyotes.
@asktheanimals
Ай бұрын
Yes. I often wonder why some N Americans just glaze over critically endangered species on their continent of residence.
They do resemble the grey wolf with a more trimmed appearance. Like a wolf that went to the barber and also got their fur dyed.
@spanniesmeandgus819

To me they resemble Coyotes with reddish fur. They are also very similar in physique to the blackbacked jackal and some of the more slender populations of the African wolf.

It would be an awesome one. Thanks for doing the timestamp. :)
There is an excellent, but heartbreaking, documentary about the Ethiopian wolf called "Megeti." I saw it on Magellan, and enjoyed it until I cried my eyes out, but I'm sure it's available elsewhere.
I love Danielle's drawings; watching them come to life during the video is just great.
If he’s going after the rodents, that’s the wind in my book I’d rather have one Ethiopian wolf, then a huge rat problem in My crops
@parathings

Yeah! Conservation efforts have shown that the Ethiopian wolf decreased rodents, consequently reducing zoonotic diseases that affect humans too. These wolves are real gems that need to be protected at all costs. The only thing I have found online is a Wolf Ambassador program.
I'd never heard of the Ethiopian wolf, so thank you for teaching me about them! I will, however, dispute that they are the rarest wolf in the world. The North American Red Wolf (Canis rufus) has fewer than 300 individuals total, with only 20-22 in the wild as of January 2024.
"If you haven't seen one, you're not alone!..." 😂 I love this line, thinking there are nearly 8000000000 human beings like me! 😅

There is no African "grey" wolf. The species you're referring to is _Canis lupaster_ , which is not a subspecies of _Canis lupus_

@@samrizzardi2213 Interestingly the Grey wolf (Canis lupus) and the Ethiopian wolf (Canis simensis), from historical admixture played there part in the creation of the African wolf (Canis lupaster). The common ancestor of eastern and western populations of African wolf (Canis lupaster) was a genetically admixed canid of 72% gray wolf and 28% Ethiopian wolf ancestry.

@@zebedeemadness2672 I wonder how Ethiopian wolves and gray wolves hybridized, gray wolves never existed in Africa and Ethiopian wolves did not exist outside of it. Edit: Yes wolves existed in Africa, this makes it possible for this to have happened.
To think that I saw Ethiopian wolves in “Queens” on Disney+, they have truly earned their place in the spotlight, as any creature on Earth should. Keep up the good work, Dufault.

Thanks for posting this! I encourage people to also watch Megeti, Africa's Lost Wolf.
YES! I've been in love with these wolves since I was in high school (in 2006) ❤ So glad to see a video on them by yall
Lol, I was thinking it looked like a Coywolf, then you said they're more closely related to Coyote and Wolf!
Even before you mention American coyotes, I was getting a Wile E. Coyote vibe from them, especially when they were stalking. This might explain their declining population...
Thanks Danielle! If you ever want to feature the Blue Spotted Salamander, there’s tons in the
I love animalogic, thank you so much for new animals, interestings facts and consistent videos.
I must tell you Danielle your show never fails to amaze me with information on species I have never heard of. Spending a lifetime of watching any and every animal doc made, that really is saying something! I am basically a 61 year old child, in a skinny, wrinkled old body! Every time I think to myself, well that's probably the last animal I will ever find, that I didn't know about. How many times you have proven that wrong?! Many! Humans and our ego's, lol. Isn't the world, and the nature all around us fascinating, and always exciting!? We can live a life of a hundred years, and not really know very much about the world around us! There is always something new to learn! Thank you girl, for teaching this old dog a few new tricks!

You almost got me with all the mambo jumbo about the video game until 3:20!! I thought lions live in Antarctica???
I'm not even remotely surprised they are related to coyotes. My first thought upon seeing them was they look like red coyotes.
Red Wolves are much fewer than even the Ethiopian wolf, and in danger of going extinct, same with wild Carolina Dogs, yall should highlight them some time
lmao I misread the title as only "Ethiopians" from my notifications
Such handsome and beautiful creatures!😭
I was thinking about how it has similiar traits to maned wolves then you said it and I gasped hahahah
More on Grey wolves or Malinois dogs please.. Great aork generally.. : )
Could you please do a video on the turtle frog?
Danielle looks good, nice job.
I'm sorry, but alphas aren't what you think it means. Rudolph Schenkel's study on wolf pack dynamics was methodologically unsound when he studied captive, unrelated wolves placed into an enclosure together. I like the description that a friend who's worked with wild wolves said. "Alphas are nurturers. They're Pack Dad/Mom and carry around a proverbial fanny pack full of snacks."
Let's talk about weasels next yeah

Tasmania should be their new home… a drop in replacement for the extinct Thylacine! We can’t change the past but we could give the species a future. 😊

Red wolf (Canis rufus) yes. The Mexican grey wolf (Canis lupus baileyi) although endangered, it's a subspecies of a species the Grey wolf (Canis lupus) that's status is of least concern, so as a species the Ethiopian wolf (Canis simensis) is endangered, that it's self has two recognised subspecies, the Northern Ethiopian wolf (Canis simensis simensis) and the Southern Ethiopian wolf (Canis simensis citernii). The Grey wolf (Canis lupus) as a species is not endangered so the Mexican subspecies gets over looked.
8:04 I'm guessing, but they gotta have worms ALL The Time, right?
Technically they're only a wolf in common name, they are really true dogs, Ethiopian wolf (Caniis simensis) translation Simien dog. Grey wolf (Canis lupus) translation Wolf dog, also a true dog, is a true wolf because of there species name Lupus literally wolf.
I think this ep should have come out years ago it feels different to just see it now in 2024 to me I don’t know why
Then what’s the American Eastern Red Wolf?
They look like Coyotes running around the desert
Beautiful. Lean. Lithe. Fast.
Simian wolf? That's a contradiction in terms. ... Oh, it's "Simien", and it's the name of a mountain.
they look like if a maned wolf and dingo had a baby
That's a dingo in Ethiopia 🧐

Like number 666. Somehow I get to be 666 pretty often😶
Nah, das a supa fox. The DNA tests are wrrrrrong! 😋
Definitely happened during colonialism, their attack dog got free, smelled like home, and bones foxes together, those dogs mated...the smaller breed died out or we taken out after the two main battle dogs died...we have a jackal in the mix because none of the alphas want to chech is she was one of them or not before mating...then the line came down to the jackals DNA mixed with a bit fox as a recessive trait but mostly wolf....🤷🏾♂️
