As an Ethiopian, I feel it is a film that needs telling of our collective past providing a sense of identity as a country. At a time in which empathy and tolerance is scarce, it is important to have both a subjective and objective understanding of the history of an Emperor who shaped the world as we know it today. "The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history." -George Orwell

Emperor Haile Selassie gave my father an opportunity and blessing that lasted long through generations of our family. There was a program at the time in Ethiopia that he’d send high ranking students abroad to study economics. My father studied at Haile Selassie University, now known as Addis University and went on to received his PhD, eventually a work visa followed by permanent residency through an amnesty program. He became a well respected economist at his university, and globally following some of his publications. @@sofenbeseat4346 not every Ethiopian likes him. You have to accept this fact. He has done a lot at an international level for his country, that's true. But the Ethiopian people were not happy under his rule. And not to mention, he has done nothing in regards to the ethnic problems. Which fast forward, has built up tension in the country of Ethiopia and is the main reason we're having a civil war in the country

@@MegaHunter316 first of all we do not have a civil war in Ethiopia okay that's just exaggerated number two to blame the Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie for ethnic problem shame on you prior to 1991 Ethiopians never have any problem or ethnics anyone can go anywhere work because it's his country until today tplf show up divided the country in ethnicity and give this region ridiculous name you are Oromo you are tigri you are Amara you divided the country so you blame we the majority Ethiopians blame tplif about the ethnicity problem we're having in our country by the way it's not about even the people it's just so c a l l leaders for those ethics that nobody even represent them they are causing the problem trust me the emperor did everything he could open up school so Ethiopians can get education did everything at that time in his power so whoever want to blame him doesn't have any clue what the problem was he was not
