Basically, any time a document says they stopped "all future testing" with a given SCP, it's because the Ethics Committee was called in. Except for SCP-420-J. That one was just Dr Clef being Dr Clef.

The SCP foundation is balancing the ultimate trolly problems. The ethics committee ensures the lowest price is paid.

They didn't specifically say so, but the Ethics Committee also has veto power over pretty much any O5 Council decisions and there's no way for the Council to override an Ethics Committee veto. They just have to come up with an alternative.

The Ethnics Committee is the reason why they stopped testing with SCP-012 on D-Class. After 6 D-Class were used for testing, they eventually decided that they knew enough and no more testing was required.

Depending on the their intelligence and usefulness, There that researcher that sabotaged his own tech and conspire to smuggle pict of the shy guy just to be granted permssion to kill it. They assigned him for the termination project and once he succeed he be executed.

The Ethics committee even has its own MTF and have removed and even kill some O5's in the past.

Adding on for anyone who wants to look up the story and related content the MTF is MTF Omega-1 Law's Left Hand. I still remember that story... It didn't end pretty for anyone.

110-Montauk is a procedure done on a female scp related to the Scarlet King that is so heinous some researchers believe it to be a punishment to be assigned to that scp

Its assumably the rape of a little girl, but at the same time, its implied to be "worse than whatever you're thinking of", so it might very well be worse than them raping her. They also use amnestics to wipe her mind every so often so she can't get used to it. The worst part? Its necessary to stop her from giving birth to a monster that will end the world. Depending on the canon, the Foundation were tricked by the cult they recovered her from, because the "Seventh Daughter's" child is actually supposed to be a hero who will defeat the Scarlet King. So, when they stopped doing the procedure in that canon, she gave birth to 999.

I do quite enjoy the Ethic's Committee. I've read numerous SCPs where the Ethics committee comes in and just massacres and replaces the 05 council when they go mad with power.

Old Man, I want you to understand that the Ethics Committee member saying "Who Do You Think Designed Procedure 110-Montauk?" is the sort of 'Oh Fuck' line on par with a character in a 40k novel suddenly revealing that they're an Inquisitor, and one who has decided that the situation is unsalvageable and the only option is Exterminatus. 110 Montauk is very deliberately not explained in the lore. It's one of those background unspeakable details that everyone is afraid to answer, partially because no answer will ever be good enough, partially because any halfway decent answer that would live up to the hype would get the wiki nuked for the content being so beyond the pale. What we do know is this: It must be done once a week. It keeps the Scarlet King Away and the World Ticking Along. Everyone involved MUST be given a brain-melting mindwipe almost on par with the one about knowing what comes after death. And it involves D-class explicitly chosen for their sexual crimes and in particular pedophiles being chosen for the task because they are the most likely to not turn aside from it. What has been implied is that it involves the near-death of the girl through some unspeakable sexual assault to prevent her from giving birth to... something. And the Ethics Committee not only said 'This is the Only Way', they outright designed it. Alternatively, well, the other answer is that it's all a smokescreen, and kept up to hide certain things' occurence... like, said, a certain *Tickle Monster*'s birth. Either way, holy FUCK that's a hell of a line.

In terms of power in the SCP Foundation you have the O5 followed IMMEDIATELY by the Ethics Committee by a hairs breath the O5 are in charge yes but the Ethics Committee decides IF you can do it

SCP-231, a group of women who had been impregnated by the Scarlet King by the ways of rituals done by the cult; The Children of the Scarlet King. There were seven in total, from SCP-231-1 to -7. Some of these women gave birth to monsters that triggered an XK Class End of the World scenario. Excluding -6 and -7. An agent of the Foundation tried to rescue SCP-231-6, but it ends with the agent terminated and SCP-231-6 terminated as well. The last, SCP-231-7 is still pregnant. The procedure was created to prevent SCP-231-7 from giving birth. It was torture. But in the end, after years, the Foundation let SCP-231-7 to give birth. Luckily, she gave birth to SCP-999. She was the only SCP-231 that survived. As of now, she is living a happy life with her family. Of course her memories were erased.

This is an example of one of the good things the SCP wiki does. When the Ethics committee was originally written, it was the meek ineffectual laughing stock. Then someone said that was stupid and wrote this. This is infinitely better then the original Ethics committee and sets up a more interesting world as a result. That's what I love about the SCP wiki, anyone can add, and anyone can give something a new life in it. Same thing happened with the GOC. It was originally the dipshits that woodchipped the chair, or destroyed the freaky idol and messed shit up. Then some asked why the organization funded by the UN would be committing so many human rights violation against every anomaly they come across, especially when they're made of 108 anomalous organizations. So the GOC was given new life and now they're infinity more interesting. They're the anomalous police of the world, and while they still occasionally fuck up and do something wrong, the same can be said of the foundation(cough SCP-1762). They care because people are dying, the foundation care because live people will hear about it. They also occasionally work with the foundation as with the Rite of Solomon (SCP-3457), and are honestly a more legitimate agency then the foundation.

I like the idea of the ethic commitee being a powerfull organism within the foundation. It renforce the idea of the foundation being a cold but not unecesary cruel organisation and the gruesome thing they do are in reality the lesser evil they have to do to protect mankind

There are about three stories minimum involved with procedure 110-Montauk. It not a kind story.

You're confusing morality with ethics. Morality is the good-bad axis Ethics is the law-chaos axis Lawful Evil means you're self-serving and power-hungry. It means that you look for every lawful advantage to increase your own power and benefit at the expense of everyone else. You understood that the Foundation serves the world, not itself, therefore it cannot be Lawful Eviil, because if it was, it would force the world to obey it, and they very specifically explained here that the foundation does NOT rule the world.

I disagree. Lawful Evil isn't always about forcing the world to obey. you can still serve the world but commit acts that can, are and will be perceived as evil as a group that most would consider unethical, immoral and evil. the SCP Foundation isn't lawful evil in the form of taking lawful advantage to control the world. it's lawful evil in the form of an organization that commits heinous, often "evil" acts in order to keep the world safe, often following the rules when doing so.

Sorry for being late, Old Man. Been on Holiday and off the board for the last Week. May I say, I absolutely agree with your insight. We cannot judge people in times and situations that are different, we can try but we really cannot do so. Reality is perception, as is one's take on right and wrong morality. Its better to be open minded about a universe and build an argument base on facts. I have LONG been hated for my opinions, especially when I play the Devil's Advocate and speak in pragmatisms.

I recommend you react to SCP-001 - The Scarlet King by the Volgun.

The scary thing is the realization that the current nature of the SPC foundations work isn’t because the ethics committee is inept, its because this is how bad they allow it to be. And it can get SO much worse without them

Im always cautious about just accepting the boundaries of the fantasy universe and judging based on what the rules are of that universe because at the end of the day, it probably doesn't have to be that way. The best example I have is in twilight when Jacob "imprinted" on a infant, effectively making him a groomer for a infant. could it have happened? sure. Did it have to happen? absolutely not. There are a ton of examples like that in 40k as well. Even when taking into account the boundaries of the galaxy its set in, does it need to be a techno hell with no escape but death? No, not really. its just justified to be that way thanks to the hardships everyone is dealing with at all times. But most of the time, the hardship is self inflicted.

I always try to avoid applying our modern day morality or ethics to groups like this, regardless if it's real or not because organizations like this have to deal with entities that require some extremely questionable choices to thoroughly contain, study or even kill those entities. we don't know what it would be like to contend with creatures like SCP 682, the Scarlet King, the Flesh That Hates, daemons, Chaos, tyranids, etc. if we did then I'm certain almost none of us would judge groups like the SCP Foundation or some groups in Warhammer, regardless if the groups are real or fantasy. I, for one, appreciate the founder or founders - I'm slightly out of the loop and can't remember who founded the Foundation or how many people did it - of the Foundation, or at least one of their successors, were clearly insightful enough to understand the organization was on a VERY SLIPPERY slope and would need an ethics committee to prevent it from becoming a vicious, tyrannical power with no regards for anything.

If anything, this gave you some new scps to look at.

it depends on one's perception of the group, I suppose. some may consider them neutral. others might consider them evil. either way, they're some flavor of neutral that's willing to do some truly fucked up things.

Honestly I think a solid intepretation of the Inquisition would be an orientation like this. The three lessons matter a lot, and it would make sense someone would decide "We need an internal affairs branch, guess I'll have to start one." given how nasty 40k as a setting is.
