❤️❤️ I think any review that’s honest and gives your opinion is great! I’d say not to put too many spoilers unless it’s noted so you don’t ruin something for other readers. But really, anything that’s thought out that shows you actually read the book with your opinion is perfect. ❤️❤️

As a fiction writer (unpublished so far...keeps getting pushed to the back burner by paying writing work), I never thought I'd write a non-fiction book. But the opportunity for an income stream is definitely there, which will give me more time for fiction. I just discovered the Non-Fiction Writer's Association nonfictionwritersconference.com/ and I've watched a free video by the founder, Stephanie Chandler, under the tab TEST DRIVE. "Become a Profitable Author". A lot of this advice would apply to fiction writers, too. Fiction writers could give classes, host webinars, speak at events, etc. And on a productivity note, watching/learning from podcasts, KZread videos, etc., are things I do while cooking dinner, eating lunch, etc. Multi-tasking. I especially love to watch the Library of Congress or other speeches given by famous authors like Stephen King, Harlan Coben, Lisa Scottoline, etc. Most of them are wonderfully engaging, and you might get a tip or two.

If anything changes, I’ll make sure to make another video. I find though, many of them are basic and I’ve done the same things since 2013. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it kind of philosophy! LOL!

Thank you for posting this (and for all of your videos)! Question: I'm planning on self-publishing my first book a few months from now and I'm curious to hear your opinion on how critical having a good launch day/week/month is? If that "just released" window passes without much momentum, is there little hope in terms of sales? Are some releases more of a slow-burn? I'm assuming that new books enjoy better visibility in ebook stores (boosted by some algorithm)?

Katinka Lincoln I think it depends on if you’re writing a stand alone or a series. You want to have momentum for any release. I think once it’s been out awhile it’s hard to gain that new release excitement so setting yourself up for success when it launches is super important. I don’t think it’s “too late” for any book, but the longer it’s out the more difficult it becomes. If it’s a series, some people wait until all of the books are released so you typically see a boost when it’s complete. Very rarely have a seen slow burn releases, while it does happen, it’s not typical. Hopefully that helps.

You can create a sign up form on Google docs and you get to keep the submissions. When going through a tour company, they don’t typically share that information with you so if you decide to not work with them in the future, you have no way to contact the people who previously reviewed your books.

This was really helpful. I have two books and no clue how to market them.

Try making flyers that show your book cover with a synopsis on the back and post them on bulletin boards or see if a bookstore will post them for you. If you see a person reading a fiction novel, hand them a flyer and suggest they use it as a bookmark (Make smaller flyers 4 X 7") if you want to do this.

I signed up with Booksgosocial and they put my dark fantasy book up on NetGalley after I have paid them. I have gotten 2 reviews but it appears these reviews were from Goodreads. Booksgosocial likes me to have 3 reviews on Amazon so that the ad will be more successful.

@@TheCourtneyProject booksgosocial.com/ That's them. A moderator from a beta group page on Facebook suggested it to me. So far they seem to be true to their word. They gave me a chance to get more reviews on Amazon to make sure the ad will be more effective. But I stated I could not achieve it so they gave me options to get most of my money back or continue with NetGalley for another month.

Hi Courtney, logistical question: If an author wants to send out a free copy of their book personally, like in a giveaway for example, would you recommend them getting a P.O. Box or just sending the book from their personal address?

Rewritten Ash Mio it’s personal preference. I personally have a PO BOX just because I don’t want my home address sent to people, but others don’t have an issue with it. ❤️

Nope, you can use either one. Google forms is free and I know some places you have to have the paid version to make customized forms with newsletters. But either one works just fine and does the same thing

Paying for reviews is scammy, goes on to give examples of places to pay for reviews… am I missing something? So if I pay someone for their “honest” opinion, that’s okay? I don’t get it.
