The Referee had the best view of what was happening and the safety of the Competitors is always paramount.

@@nicholaschryssafis5797 The Referee did an excellent job. He had to make a split second decision to avoid potential serious injury to the Competitor. If he stopped the Bout too early better than stopping it too late

@@markstevens5886 Are you stupid? What injury do you get from being choked unconscious? The ref is supposed to lift the arm to test for drop or have eyes on the athlete's face to see if their eyes are closed or are not blinking. He didn't do either and they guy was clearly not out, he robbed that guy

Well for a start being choked unconscious can cut the Blood Supply to the Brain and there is a risk of Brain Damage.

@@nicholaschryssafis5797 Further to earlier Post pressure on the Neck can potentially cause damage to the Vertebrae, Muscles, Tendons and Ligaments in the Neck. I think most Doctors would agree it is not safe for anyone to be choked Unconscious. In MMA the objective is to get your Opponent to Tap Outt before becoming Unconscious or to get the Referee to stop the Bout before the Opponent becomes Unconscious; in both cases in order to avoid injury. Although actual Injury may potentially occur the objective of the Sport is to avoid injury by Tap Out or Referees' Stoppage. The Referee was closest to the action and would have been able to see the stage the choke had reached. We cannot tell what the Referee saw from looking at the Video Clip. The Young Man who lost the Bout was not robbed. This was an Amateur MMA Bout where they were not competing for Money or Prizes but for the Love of the Sport of MMA. He lost nothing from having the Bout stopped but potentially avoided Serious Injury. He will learn from the experience of this Bout and improve his Skills as a Competitor. Amateur MMA is conducted for the benefit of the Participants and their well being is Paramount. Surely no Fan of MMA would ever want to see a Competitor get Injured when this could have been avoided.

does appear to look like the top fighter went limp just before the stoppage. I can see why the ref made the quick decision to jump in and stop the fight.

At 1st I was "that's BS" but yeah, when you see the replay his arm goes limp, he was out for a second then popped back.

At 4.15 he stumbles like he just woke from the choke. I think he got the blood barrier choke and came back to quickly . Either way it’s the refs job to protect the fighters at all times, especially the amateurs

Ref didnt know what he was doing. When he called time, he looked over at the other official and he was signaling him to end the fight.

That wasn’t an easy call, however, I agree with the ref on the stoppage. Guillotine choke is really dangerous, and passing out is actually because no air is going to the brain. So the ref has to act fast. I mean it was over anyway, the chose was under the chin and the moment he closed his guard that was a full control “game over “. I’m wondering though, why the fans were boing the poor kid!?
