Etching an Image with the M-Triangel PGoneS

In this video, we show you how to etch an image onto a new replacement back glass for an iPhone X. For this piece, we used a modified version of Tracie Ching's stunning portrait of Kobe Bryant. If you haven't seen the original, please look her up. Our etching does not do it justice.
Also, the parts used in this video are listed below. If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments section. Enjoy!

It might have something to do with your image. High-contrast images work best. Ideally, JUST black and white images. The laser is sensitive and will burn anything that it thinks is image data (even light gray tones). If you turn to 4:18 in the video, you can see an example of this. There is a small mark on Kobe's forehead, directly above his eye. That mark was in the original image, but it was so light that I didn't see it. However, the laser saw it and burned it onto the phone.

Is this machine suitable for engraving logos and such on aluminium pieces? Or is it purely designed with Phone repair and engraving in mind?

These machines are primarily designed for removing back glass from smartphones. But it's basically a printer that uses a laser instead of ink, so you can etch/engrave on just about anything, as long as it's flat and fits under the focus pin. Just be aware that not all surfaces engrave well. Certain textures and reflectivity are resistant to the laser (such as the metal back on the original iPhone SE) and don't allow for clean burns.

We just purchased a generic USB-to-VGA adapter from Amazon. It still uses the built-in computer, but projects the image onto a larger screen.

We were using a JPEG. However, I remember seeing an "import vector" option below "import image" in the menu. I'm not sure which vector format it accepts (since we no longer carry the machine), but that might be a better solution than a standard image since light-colored jpeg artifacts can still show up in the final burn.

@@JustMe-pi7fq Do a test burn on something. Draw a circle or square and then look at the result. If there is a small gap where the laser started/stopped, then the laser may be defective. If that's the issue, see about returning your machine for an exchange.

We left it on the default power (which I think was 95). But you can always experiment with different settings until you find your desired result. Just remember that speed can also affect the power of the burn. The slower your burn speed, the more the surface will burn.
