This was a hit in brazil in 83. Its a song about the summer starting and you better get yer butt in the gym. Fun song. For those that like this 80s hidden gem, Brazil had loads of 80s hits but all in portuguese like this one and unfortunately american radio never played brazilian songs. So a whole load of 80s classics are only known by Brazilians. This song is one tiny tiny piece of it.

Pauline redvelvet check out Jorge Ben Jorge (Dadivs), Gilberto Gil, Milton Nascimento, there are quiet a few compilation CDs, one of my faves and good intro is The Brazilian Boogie Connection from Rio to São Paulo (1976-1983), we also like Black Rio- Brazil Soul Power 1971-1980. Not as pop as the 80s, but still awesome!

Clássico dos anos 80. Grande Mestre. 1983. Na época em que as músicas eram eternas e bem trabalhadas. Não era um hit de verão com prazo de validade de 3 meses, como é hoje. Tinha qualidade. I got into Marcos Valle when the Southern Comfort ad debuted in April 2014, I picked up the 3-CD mini box set "Anos 80" from a record dealer in Brazil, "Estrelar" (from "Marcos Valle" from 1983, the other CDs are "Vontade De Rever Voce" from 1981 and "Tempo Da Gente" from 1986) reminded me somewhat of mid-late-1970s Earth Wind & Fire and the rest of his material all sounds great too, you don't need to understand the Brazilian-Portuguese language to be able to appreciate great music like this!!!

Such a beautiful song, video & edit… 1983. I love everything about this.

Eram músicas que não tinham prazo de validade de 3 meses, apenas para durar um verão. Infelizmente os anos 80 se foram mas deixou momentos marcantes. Só quem viveu entende. Forte abraço. Que saudade do verão carioca.... hoje,a uma semana do verão, parece que ainda estamos no inverno.Saudade do céu azul,das praias e bares cheios e da alegria carioca às vésperas do verão

There's also Eumir Deodato, remember his jazz/funk version of "Also Sprach Zarathustra" (the theme from "2001 - A Space Odyssey") from 1973? That won him a Grammy back then and he's been putting out great chart-topping music ever since and he's still going strong today, as is Marcos Valle, whom I believe was unjustifiably left out of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in his own backyard by both FIFA and also by ESPN (ESPN chose to use "Seven Nation Army" from The White Stripes as their theme instead of THIS classic), and you would think coming off the heels of his newly-gained U.S.A.-based following he has now thanks to the Southern Comfort ads airing earlier this year, that maybe "Estrelar" would've been a shoe-in as the theme song for ESPN/ABC's coverage of the World Cup. ESPN HAS NO GOOD MUSICAL TASTE!!! VIVA BRASILIA!!!
