Establishment To Bernie Supporting Celebrities: STFU!
Hillary Clinton supporters are going after the celebrities that supported Bernie Sanders, blaming them for her loss to Donald Trump. Cenk Uygur, the host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. tytnetwork.com/join/
“Dear Famous Liberals Who Refused To Vote For Hillary Clinton,
It’s time to call bullshit on your so-called social-political revolution - one that only a person of extreme privilege has the luxury to champion. Susan Sarandon, let’s start with you. I know you were “so excited and encouraged by the idea that maybe if everything is falling apart so obviously,” we would come together as a people. But spare me your sympathies now that Judgment Day has come.
But here’s what your privilege didn’t allow you to see: we had already come together. You were just too consumed with your own righteousness to see it.”

I really resent this argument that Bernie supporters are just focusing on abstract principles. No!!!!! 45,000 people die every year for lack of health care. My Mother was one of them. This is not an abstract principle!!! This is the equivalent of fifteen Sept. 11 terror attacks every single year. These people have very real lives!!!! Medicare for all is a goal. We have to start some where and "move the ball down the field toward the goal line". HRC's campaigning in Iowa in January of 2016 and saying that "single payer will never, ever ever happen" is not inspiring or at all helpful. There were abolitionists in the 1830s. They did not say to themselves "Forget it. We are stuck with slavery forever." Today we can start the process of removing the chains imposed upon us by the robber barons in the health insurance and pharmaceutical industries.
all it took to defeat the mighty Hillary & her 1.2 billion dollar campaign. A senator nobody heard of. 4 celebrities. A game show host.

BET? Right there is enough not to take whatever your saying. I’m so sick of Hillary shills and corporate Democrats. If a progressive don’t win the primaries then I hope the Democrats lose again because I definitely won’t be won’t voting for them. Their entitlement is repulsive.
These critics seem to think we elect by popular vote instead of electoral college. Susan Sarandon is in California which went for Clinton. Her vote didn't lose Clinton the election at all.
The people who STILL passionately defend anything and everything about Hillary by deflecting any blame or responsibility and smear everyone who don't agree with them disgust me more than Hillary herself does.

The majority of them seem to be oblivious to blatant undeniable facts, which is another trait they share with Trump supporters. Many of the ones I've talked to genuinely believe that Clinton is a progressive just like Bernie, when she's clearly not. Then they were shocked with utter disbelief when I listed a ton of policies and issues that she's _on record_ being right-wing on. Some of them didn't even know she had voted for the Iraq War.
There are times when I don't like Cenk, but when he talks about his support for Bernie...I am just filled with joy. ❤️
This is America, shouldn't matter whether you're rich, poor, a celebrity or a nobody, you have a voice.
Excellent analysis by Cenk, as usual. Segments like this are THE reason I watch TYT. Congrats!

ÅL who And Hillary is a born-winner? They both have illustrious careers as lawyers and politicians but Bernie has achieved more policy wise. There is nothing Hillary has over Sanders. She was a Women's rights activist, President's wife, appointed by Obama to his cabinet and a State Senator. On the other hand Bernie was an activist for women's and minority rights, mayor of a Vermont city, Congressman and State Senator for the longest time. The DNC admitted to favouring Hillary for the win. Men and women saw past the smears and Bernie closed a 60 point lead. Now tell me how is Bernie a loser? And if you say he lost the primary then Hillary is also a loser as she lost the election. Check mate
We shouldn't run away from the charge that we cost Hillary the election. We should tell the establishment Dems we'll do it again. They aren't going to bend to anything but brute force. Bernie 2020 or Bust.

Yeah Right... I agree. I do NOT want Trump as President. Neither do I want an Establishment Dem as President. Give me someone worthwhile to vote for and I will- but give me crap and I will vote for someone else.
One of the saddest things I had to hear over and over was that Bernie was too old. My mom, for example, didn't vote for him specifically because she thought he might not last the full duration of even just one term. I kept trying to reassure her (and the many others) that he wasn't unhealthy and didn't appear to be headed in that direction, other than his age as a number... so why vote against the better candidate based purely on a what-if scenario? That being their only reason not to vote for him was incredibly disheartening.
To Clinton supporters, she can do no wrong. This mind frame will never ever change.
Let me get this straight: This writer is criticizing Bernie-supporting celebrities for supposedly putting their "abstract principles before the little guy", not being unified behind Hillary, etc.... and at the same time telling them to STFU about fighting for DACA because there's an abstract point the writer wants to make. Is that about right? Talk about "do as I say, not as I do".
Corporate Democrats are just pathetic! They lost to a certified "moron" -- what a shame!

I agree 100%. The DNC is responsibly for the loss, it is their job to run a candidate that inspires enough voters to win the election. They were running against one of the most beatable candidates ever and they lost. It is not the voters job to bow down, it is the party's job to inspire votes.

The 'full context' of what Clinton said was worse than the shortened clip. Jesus.
The simplest answer is usually the correct answer. Sometimes a lot of little things can contribute to a problem or loss, but a lot of the time those little things all stem from a central cause. For example is a business has a bunch of little things causing it to not meet its production, sales, or profit goal those little things may be stemming from a central problem, i.e. bad management. The take away is that Hilary Clinton is the reason she lost the election and all of the little things that Hilary and her supporters keep saying are the reason all point back to one cause: Hilary Clinton. Hilary is the person who was a Goldwater Girl. Hilary is the one who labeled African-American teenagers as "Super-Predators". Hilary is the one who voted for the Patriot Act. Hilary is the one who voted for the Iraq war. Hilary is the who switched her position and voted for the Bankruptcy bill after she started taking donations from bankers and those on Wall St. Hilary is the one who got paid hundreds of thousands of dollars by Goldmanns-Sachs and other Wall St. firms for less than 1 hour speeches. I can remember when Bill Clinton left the presidency in 2000 there was all this talk on the news about how great it would be if Hilary Clinton was the first female president. This is why the democratic party tried twice to a coronation for her. In 2008, Obama was much more charismatic and people preferred him, she stayed in that time because it was "supposed" to be her nomination, not because it was close. This time the democratic party made sure everyone else stayed out of the race, which ironically the empty field was probably what opened the door for Bernie. If there had been more competition on the democratic side Bernie may not entered because he may have felt he would have been drowned out. Then again, had he entered anyway and had the same turnout at rallies, then he likely would have won the nomination because the other candidates would have diluted Hilary's primary margins.

If, because of the electoral college, your vote for president doesn't count, it seems to me that voting for a third party candidate would be the best way to use your vote. At least if one of them gets enough of a percentage of the votes out there he or she can participate in the debates and get some gov't money to run.

You are so right Trenton Brown. The establishment is working so hard on both sides to get the pendulum to swing back in their favor, even if it is at the detriment to their party. With Sanders introducing his Medicare for All plan today, we should concentrate on those who are standing with progress and hold those who are against accountable, no matter which party they are beholden to!
@amyaltman7791

Completely agree!! Ppl seem to have forgotten how the primaries were rigged in Hilary's favor. The nomination was stolen from Bernie. So no, I didn't vote for Hilary. First election I haven't voted in. Don't get me wrong, I was waiting for Hilary to give me a reason to vote for her. She just didn't connect to voters. She wasn't clear on policy. She didn't campaign where she needed to. I would have voted for her if she at least had a decent running mate! Trump will win reelection if the Democratic Party continues the blame game.
A country will continuously decay by voting the lesser or greater evil. Voting with values opposite to decadence is the only choice to get away from decadence, not voting with the lesser decadence. Vote third party.

+hellcat1988 yeah.. I think you are confused. Gerrymandering is usually an issue in local elections. Trump won because deep blue states stayed blue, red states stayed red and a lot of purple states Actually turned red because Trump s working class messge resonated with these blue collar People. Clinton assumed these states would stay democrat because they had gone to obama before so she didnt even bother going to michigan and wisconsin while Trump did.. THATS the reason why she lost those states. She ran a TERRIBLE camoaign and lost fair and sqaure under the existing rules. Bernie would have won

I heared Americans love German words here is a fitting one: Kadavergehorsam (Blind loyalit even bejond ones death)
Maybe TYT should start a campaign for a different voting system - what is in Australia called "preferential voting" but I think goes by the technical name of "single transferable vote". Then you can vote 1 Sanders 2 Clinton 3 Trump (or 2 Trump 3 Clinton), which means if my first preference Sanders is eliminated because he got the lowest number of "first preferences (i.e. 1 votes)" of the three, then my vote is transferred to my number 2 choice. It is equivalent to a multi-round election like the French presidential elections where losers are eliminated from the next round, but it is all done in one day of voting. NB there are always some who say "I can't decide what my 2nd choice is if Sanders is eliminated" - they don't have to mark 2 or 3 on their ballot, it they really think the others are equivalent, and hence their vote is discarded on the second round of counting. Start with one getting one state to use this system and maybe it will spread.

JAYJAYJAY53 and when she passed out at that event and they were keeping her head propped up, lol, it looked like "Weekend at Bernies", no pun intended. There would have been no shame in her fainting from being over worked, we all understand the pressure, but she had to lie about even that most trivial fact when it was on video. Pathetic. Trump Pathetic. I voted for her so i have the right to be bitter.

Versus25 why? because we have principles and respect for the democratic process? and not corporate shills? glad that makes you sick, keep vomiting buddy.
They are talking about 'privilage' like Hillary did awesome with minority turn out :/
Clinton saw no need to compromise with Sanders after the "primary," so I feel no need to compromise with her supporters. Americans love progressive ideas when they are exposed to them, but our own party elites put us down and then expect us to bow along. The presidential election showed that they can't afford to ignore us, so what will it be, Hillary types? Do you want progress or continuous loss? We are moving on with or without you.

Rudy Morrison It needs a modifier, I prefer to use "deplorable elitist".
The “establishment” ends up looking a LOT like tens of millions of average middle-class, middle age and older Americans and NOT any type of an elite ruling class, far-lefties !
