Essential Resin Tools

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

When it comes to working successfully with epoxy resin, the old saying "use the right tools for the job" is true. Each resin tool is used for a specific purpose, so it's important to use the correct tools and to use them correctly to save you valuable time, effort and money. If you're new to working with resin, however, you might not know where to begin:
What resin supplies should a beginner get?
Which resin tools are need-to-haves vs nice-to-haves?
Where do I buy resin tools?
Do I need to spend a lot of money on resin supplies?
The good news is that basic resin art supplies are easily found at your local hardware store or online. In fact, you may already have some of them around the house. Here are the essentials you need to get started with epoxy resin:
1. ArtResin
2. Disposable Gloves
3. Apron/Old Clothes
4. Plastic Drop Sheet
5. Masking Tape
6. Plastic Stands
7. Level
8. Plastic Container For Water Bath
9. Plastic Measuring Cup
10. Plastic Stir Stick
11. Plastic Spreader
12. Butane Torch
13. Toothpicks
14. Dust Cover
15. Alcohol and Paper Towel
16. Hand Cleaner

    Hi Alita, the video goes over all of the supplies you will need to work with ArtResin. We have some of these supplies available on our website: ArtResin, Accessory Kit, ResinTints, coaster mold, Artists Torch, while items like the vinyl drop cloth, plastic measuring cups, other embellishments or specific molds you can easily source elsewhere either online or even at the dollar store. www.artresin.com

    Hi great video, I just have a question I use small silicone molds and my air bubbles don't sit at the top, more so at the bottom so I don't see the bubbles until I pull the molding out of the mold. I do warm my resin and use a heat gun but one or two molds will have air bubbles at the bottom of the mold. Also if I sand it down and pour a fresh top coat of resin should I place it back in the silicone mold ?

  • @Artresin

    It might be easier to just apply a thin layer of ArtResin on the surface using a gloved hand, this will restore the gloss after sanding. Some artists spray a light mist of isopropyl alcohol into their mold prior to pouring in the resin to help reduce bubbles. You can also run a small popsicle stick around the edges gently after you pour to help encourage bubbles to dislodge.

    Hi, thanks for sharing the video. I'm a beginner at resin. I need to know a few things before I start resin. What is the period of resin? Does it dry up in summers? How to cure if the one part is dried? After using so much resin on the canvas, what will be the weight of the canvas after drying the resin? Thanks😊

  • @Artresin

    @Artresin

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi there, you are going to have a ton of fun using ArtResin :). Once you mix your resin and hardener you have approximately 45 minutes to work with it. You can use ArtResin in the summer, the ideal temperature is between 75-85F with humidity around 50%. Both the resin part and the hardener part remain liquid until they are mixed together. Once mixed the chemical reaction will begin that will turn it from liquid to a solid over the next 72 hours. If you have questions about ArtResin please feel free to contact us at support@artresin.com

    To coat a non flat surface the best method is to apply ArtResin with a paintbrush or foam applicator. This allows you to apply in a thin coat and minimize drips. For a round item you may wish to coat one half at a time and let it cure in between so that you have a surface to rest it on while it is wet.

    Flowers can be tricky. It is very important that they are completely dry first. You might find that sealing them well before applying the resin can help retain the colour however some flowers and colours fade more than others over time.

    Oh, oh, oh! I did the same. Looked around, and found, sealing the dried flowers, with spray clear sealer, did the trick. I Also, will put it through my sticker maker, and seal it that way if it's a Flattened flower... then, c fussy cut the flower, as a double sided sticker- and it holds it's color as well...

  • @Artresin

    Hi Enid. Bendy resin happens for a number of reasons, improper mixing ratio, under-mixing, too much colourant added, items are too thin, sometimes it is as simple as just giving it more time to harden up. Here is our blog that details most of the common reasons for bendy resin: www.artresin.com/blogs/artresin/how-to-prevent-bendy-resin?_pos=1&_sid=38410d02b&_ss=r. Hi Meg, yes-you can sand and then pour a new layer over the surface of the cured resin, you do not need to apply a clear coat first. The sanding will give the new layer some tooth so that it adheres strongly.

    Can I make tinted glass with resin

  • @Artresin

    @Artresin

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes you can apply tinted ArtResin overtop of glass for a beautiful effect. You can also pour tinted ArtResin onto a non stick surface, when it has cured enough to handle but is still soft enough to cut, you can cut it into different shapes. Let it continue to cure to full hardness on a flat surface. Is art resin a good resin for making jewelry?

  • @Artresin

    @Artresin

    6 ай бұрын

    Yes ArtResin is good for jewelry. One thing to note is that ArtResin will continue to harden over many days. The next day after you pour, the resin will still be bendable. This can be used as an advantage to some art making as you can continue to manipulate and create with the material in this state. The slower cure is intentional in the chemistry. There is a direct coronation between slower curing times and long term non yellowing. So the slower the cure, the longer the piece will last

    Pourquoi ma resine reste épaisse non translucide après avoir brassé 3 minutes et laisser reposer ? Merci

  • @Artresin

    @Artresin

    Жыл бұрын

    Si votre résine est à une température plus froide, elle aura une texture plus épaisse. Lorsqu'elle est épaisse comme celle-ci, des micro-bulles sont piégées et donnent à la résine un aspect laiteux ou trouble. Pour éviter cela, nous vous recommandons d'utiliser un bain d'eau chaude pour réchauffer votre résine et votre durcisseur avant de les mélanger.
