Wow I am totally going to play this one again for notes for a list of the couple of things I forgot to buy, and again before I leave so I can pack! I personally prefer to keep recovery gear in a heavy duty nylon/canvas bag so I can just pull it out and it's all with me out by the winch etc. I also have two cluster hook sets with my recovery gear, not so useful for self-recovery but extremely useful for helping others who had no business there and have no good recovery points on their vehicle.

You two are very organic and very organized. I like everything you are doing here.

My Uncle Neil would be impressed by your crockpot. Back in the 50"s & 60's he would make foil meals with chicken and potatoes etc and put it on the manifold of his old wood panel station Wagon while traveling cross country. oh the stories! lol

I was just comprising a list of overlanding gear for my trip to West Virginia's Monongahela National Forest...very cold and snow covered. I have a Mr. Buddy heater to use in my baker's tent (OneTigris) just to warm it up before I crawl into my sleeping bag. I'm a warm sleeper but I keep a heavy wool blanket on the side. Occasionally I'll sleep in my Jeep Compass on a Teton base camp mat. At my destinations I love to explore on foot so I take a 5.11 backpack with survival gear in case I decide to either camp along the trail or I get caught on the trail late. Anyway, you folks are well prepared and stick with a checklist, an excellent practice. Nothing worse than needing something badly and you forgot it at home...for example, the cork screw :) Great video!

Amen in keeping the dish soap in a zip lock bag. I also recommend the little plastic bag clips from IKEA. They're cheap, fast and really effective over a tie wrap.

Thermarest is where it's at . We have one for each of us , 5 . The thermarest are great for rambunctious boys as they don't suffer damage as easily as the standard Wal-Mart issue air mattresses.

I have a 21 4R and now I see all the the stuff I can bring. The bad news is, I’ve got a lot of stuff to buy 😂. Buy the way I had one of those toaster years ago and yes they do a great job. Thanks for showing all the things to pack to have a safe and good time and I must say each and every item would be good to have every time you leave the house. 😎

I miss fire starter, matches and lighter. Since you travel with afire ban you might not need it but it's good to have it anyway. Oh, a compass in case your fancy electronics stop working.

This video hit me right in the feels. My FJ got broken into just yesterday and they stole ALL my gear. I guess it's time to start making a list of new stuff.

Watched it for fun -surprised myself by needing to write down scorch plate & air nozzle (you’d think it would have crossed my mind to use it as a duster). Great idea with the plastic kitchen garbage can. That’s probably one of my all-time favorite 2 person tents. My recommendations for you: Thermocell Radius (I was heavily dubious but it works superb for our PNW admittedly low mosquito density) & collapsible rake (mine goes from 22x7.5” to 29.5 x 61”) - stores easily & really helps with tent placement & cleaning up our cooking & dining area if needed)

Aloha, guys! I thoroughly enjoyed your gear presentation because you spent the time and effort of not only showing each piece of kit but you also explained why you brought an item and how it's used. My checklist is pretty similar with the exception of the crock pot. However, maybe I missed you mentioning a refrigerator or cooler and any means of communication in camp, e.g. two-way radios. Even though it's just myself I do carry a set of Motorola radios just in case. They do pick up outside comms from other communication sources. I did notice you have a Midland sticker on the glass so you probably have a CB. I used to bring a Yeti cooler but at the cost of space and having a '16 Jeep Compass it seemed to be a waste. I picked up a $5 cooler bag at Walmart plus an insulated insert from Amazon and that suffices for two nights out, my usual adventure time from home. For long cross country trips, coast to coast, I do plan to buy a Dometic. I just bought a Gazelle T3 (secured in the roof top cargo basket) pop up tent for extended stays but I normally just sleep in the back of the vehicle on a Teton base camp pad with an open Coleman bag used like a top quilt. My back up is a military woobie and a wool blanket. Your Hudson Bay blanket is beautiful...love the green with the black stripe. I love to barbecue and use a UCO grill I found on Amazon. I boil water on a single burner Coleman stove; an alcohol (able to burn twigs in the Fire Pot) stove serves as a back up if I ever run out of fuel. Now that we have a little freedom again I'll be camping at a lakeside site at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains to celebrate my 73rd birthday. Anyway, have a safe journey and great camping experience. Sorry, I tend to ramble. Aloha!

Thanks for watching Alexander! In the 4Runner we use a 75q Dometic fridge. It's truly one of the best things we've done for camping! For comms. we have a Cobra CB and a Midland GMRS. We also use handhelds that also broadcast through GMRS. It sounds like you have a great, efficient setup. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Ha ha, you can always tell those of us that have come to off-roading from hiking & backpacking. I also think part of it is we did it when there were fewer options so we keep it simple.

You guys are awesome. I happened upon your White Rim video when I was prepping for my Utah trip last year, with my camper. This year I'm planning a solo overlanding trip to GA next month and happened upon you again looking for a gear list to make sure I have everything I might need. Question: I have the green coleman stove that is basically non adjustable and I also love cast iron. Do you think a cast iron pan will still get hot enough with a diffuser plate underneath?

Stephen Sykes You do get food smells all day long, you need to be careful of run-off (why we have drip pan) and lastly, these small crockpots generally have one setting, so you need to practice with it so you can time you meals. Other than that, I really like ours. -Merri

I have a small 3qt instant pot...700W. I’m not sure how much power it draws on a slow cooking setting but I am going to check that out! For sure to put food into it at breakfast time and have dinner already cooked by the time I arrive at my next camp would be incredible!

great video only thing i didnt see was a grab bag or emergency bag incase your rig catches fire { god forbid it does} i have a grab bag with thinks like a burner cooking stuff water filtration cheap walmart sleeping bag first aid tarp some extra socks and cloths. Basically things that i could use in case of a serious emergency.

Thanks for watching David! We use a 300 series compressor in the 4R, and a 400 series in our FJ. They're both about the same size, but the 400 is faster at airing up tires. We'll only use Viair pumps, they're the best.

Not sure why this popped up on my notification wall but I'm glad it did. Plus I have most of those gears for car camping in my 4Runner. I don't do overland trips just do a lot more of backpacking trips and occassionally car camping but just my get into overlanding road trips.😎✌

We sometimes use our onboard compressor, but for us it's more convenient to use the battery pump.

hey where did you buy the folding table and the gas holder?

So this was posted May 19 and your map showed you were coming to the Buffalo. Did you find it closed or did you make it here in time? It has now opened back up. And you had the West map which meant you were thinking Ponca or Steel Creek to most likely Kyles landing. I hope if you were able to get on the river that you took the time to hike the goat trail on Big Bluff, saw Granny Henderson's cabin and hiked to Hemmed-in-Hollow. You probably didn't know about Bear Cave Hollow.

What happened to your Idea of the pelican cases for your camp kitchen ??

I've looked everywhere for those roof lockable storage boxes that you have and can't find them. Yours say Plano on them and even the Plano website doesn't show them. Where to find them?

I remember my dad cooking MREs on the exhaust manifold between stops on our trips when I was a kid. A crock pot is a lot better.

We have a dual battery system in the 4R, with a portable solar panel to charge when the engine isn't running.

do you take the dogs ? if so I might have missed what you use for water Kentucky fried chicken sells a half gallon drink and they haven't leaked and don't take up much space . some camping stores sell the same exact bags minus the kyc logo

We do sometimes take our two small dogs. For water we have a 5 gallon can on the back and at least a quart of cold water in the fridge at all times. If we have our daughter and grandson along we take an additional 5 gallon can. In a couple weeks we'll be releasing a video on a new jerry can we have. It has a pressure pump and a filter! It works great!

Damn, wife and I are city slickers and recently made a deposit for ‘21 TRD Pro for some outdoor adventures; I knew going in that there’s gonna be a huge learning curb prepping for (the most we’ve hauled around were golf bags 😁) a trip but I am glad I stumble upon your video.
