I am enjoying your videos. I am an American who has been living in the UK for over 30 years . Your slang video made me laugh so much as I remember first moving there and having no idea what “ shag “ meant . In the USA it is a type of carpet or haircut from the 70’s .

It's amusing that the more "formal /sophisticated" versions of some english words, are akin to the "normal" version of the same words in French and Italian due to their latin/greek origin. Thanks for this useful lesson.

The Formal English language sounds very different from the informal English and part of it can be explained due to the amount of synonymous in the language. They are uncountable. The language works that way because it was exponentially influenced by several languages over the time like Latin, french, German and the language of the Saxon people.

Dear Leila and Sabrah, I came across your videos purely by chance and decided to watch one. Two hours later and I am still hooked. Some wonderful explanations here. Although I am a British national and teach Business English to non-native speakers in Belgium, your videos do indeed reinforce the expression; "you are never too old to learn". Having lived and worked abroad in 9 different countries over the last 40 years, I have certainly come to appreciate the importance of understanding cultural differences. For that reason I emphasise the point that, it is not just the content that is the most important but how you deliver your message and, above all, how it is perceived by your interlocutor. We live today in a very multicultural world where 70% of all English speakers are non-native and therefore with varying levels of comprehension. I strongly believe in and work on pronunciation and articulation in order to get a message across clearly and without ambiguity. I adored the clarity of your diction. Well done! I was fascinated by the History of English video, very clear and concise. I don't know if you have posted any videos on pronunciation and articulation, personally speaking I feel you would produce another inspiring video were you to decide to go ahead with such an idea. I would love to receive your feedback. Best regards. Simon
