    The first thing I did with my used 9 month old Outback XT was blow up the turbo. After that I went ahead and blew up the short block and took the cylinder heads and cams along with it. The fourth thing I did was to understand that this little $.05 banjo filter was clogged and could have saved me $10k had I know about it in the first place. Can't wait for my next mod.

    Just bought an 08 OBXT MT limited. Very helpful. This is two years old obvi, but relevant to my recent purchase. First new car I ever bought was an 05 WRX. Quite excited for the XT wagon given my more utilitarian needs, but still that turbo boxer 2.5 I’ve been missing for far too long. Cheers..

    I would never trust an access port for the simple reason: they are a good base tune - but is different to having someone look at exactly what your afr's are doing / knock detection and tuning. Every engine is different. Personally the mods I'd do: 1. Upgrade front and rear sway bars 2. Antilift kit 3. Upgrade to performance street tyres (semis if your riskay) 4. Coilovers 5. Alignment 6. Better STREET pads and rotors. 7. Exhaust 3" turboback 8. Bucket seats with high leg boulstering (non subaru) And learn to use every ounce of hp the engines got in the corners before messing with a engine that is sensitive.

  • @avengednick

    @avengednick

    6 жыл бұрын

    Agreed, as I mentioned in the video a pro tune is the best option. My car is tuned by Cobb Surgeline and I won't use one of the off the shelf maps. Love your recommended list of mods though.

  • @w.r.3463
    @w.r.34636 жыл бұрын

    The only thing you should be doing to the car is oil movement and collection mods so you don’t spin bearings by starving the engine of oil. (Killer B products) Especially before you mod and pro tune, make the engine as bullet proof as possible. Then brakes and a good tire compound. Finally after that get into power mods but reliability and engine longevity diminishes after any modding no matter the driver skill. But love the channel and the rare LGT👍🏻

  • @avengednick

    @avengednick

    6 жыл бұрын

    Absolutely, if I could start over I would do this prior to the mods or at least when I went to the VF52 and upgraded fuel system. But it's on my list, ultimately I'm hoping to do an IAG built block down the road and then definitely upgrade the oil components at that point. And brakes are a must! Thanks, appreciate the support!

I have exactly the same car .. all be it with the steering wheel on the other side .. and have been trying to find someone who can tell me exactly what rim offset I can get away with if fitting 8x18's which is exactly what you have mentioned on this video .. except for the offset .. happy to roll guards and stuff and will be fitting coilovers so clearance on the inside shouldn't be a problem .. anyway .. hope this message finds you and keep up the great work!!

    I got my outback xt/legacy gt wagon used with a bad motor. The first set of mods i did was replace the the block with one that can handle up to 650bhp horsepower, that is like 400whp. The second mod was the tgb deletes. Thrid mods was the cobb 3 inch downpipe. 4th was the cobb access port. 4th mod and i recommend this mod on all automatics is a transmission cooler. 5th mod is upgraded the injectors to 720cc injectors. 6th mod is a professional dyno tuner. Lucily my mechanic had this same car as mine so he knows what works and what does not. My next mod probabily will be to rebuilt the tranny to handle 400whp. After that i am planing on twin turbos.

    Roy Wright im planing on two differwnt size turbos. This is used all the time in trucks. Small one is used to get up to speed and right when the small one fadeds out the large switches over and carries to red line. This is basically one turbo the whole time. This way i can keep my spool time down low.

  • @avengednick

    @avengednick

    6 жыл бұрын

    Ahh yeah, I've heard that can be an issue with the stock one. I have the Grimmspeed TMIC but could still use an air oil separator. While the intercooler piping does look badass, due to the excessive length of piping it adds it can cause turbo lag especially where when it's a small stock stock turbo or even a VF52, so I stuck with the stock location.

    Depends on your budget. Horsepower costs money...cosmetic details like lower profile wheels in my opinion are way down the list of mod requirements. I would start in the engine bay with catch cans n oil separators and the like. When you spend money on the reliability of your car over cosmetic improvements, you know it will get ya home...ie chrome alone, will never get ya home!

    IMO, the real first essential mods are the ones you should do to make sure the car doesn't fail to do what you bought it for (be a reliable mode of transport.) such as banjo bolt service, seafoaming, classic tune up, then things like bulletproofing the engine. why buy wheels and shocks for a car thats gonna pop?

    Obviously a dedicated summer tire or dedicated winter tire will out perform an all season in their respective season, but I will say I had the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+'s on my car for a long time and was super impressed with them. I drove on a number of road rally's with them and pushed them hard on some gnarly California canyons and was blown away. They didn't quite have the grip of the Pilot Super Sports on the WRX, but not bad for a year around tire.

    I think if you ask most Subaru owners, including WRX/STI owners prior to 2011 (with the exception of 04-07 STI’s) they’d say the stock wheels leave a lot to be desired. Yes it’s preference, but a majority of owners I’ve talked to agree. Also, as I mentioned in the video the new wheels allow for wider tires than stock for added grip to match the additional power of a new tune. That being said, for that reason I'd consider them essential but to each their own. I’d encourage you to check out some of our other videos, click bait titles are a huge pet peeve of mine, and I try to make sure the title matches the video.
