Espresso workflow with Rocket Appartamento & Eureka Specialita

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

After adapting for a few weeks to this 'home cafe' setup, am sharing here my basic routine I get to every morning (and some terrible latte art).
It's still a work in progress and room for improvement in speed, consistency.

I have the same machine but I don't steam that fast - I judge by the temperature of the pitcher (feel)... Would you say the pitcher gets too hot to hold by the time you stopped? For me, it takes almost twice as long as it took you - I also used a thermometer to check if my "feel" is accurate -- it usually gets to 165 degrees Fahrenheit. I'm really surprised how quick you steamed it.

Normally I'll steam 150ml milk, enough for 1 cup. Probably the low volume is why it gets up to temp relatively quick. And by touch, it is stopped at the "warm to touch for 2 seconds" timer. Hahaha...

very cool equip!....i just started getting interested in a home (or office) setup and the Rocket Appartamento is looking like my expresso maker of choice....i was also considering a Flair 58, but having the integrated steam wand just seems more convenient than using a wand frother....double the price investment tho, so there's that....i haven't decided on the grinder yet...still researching my options...you recommend the specialita? or any other options?....i hear Eureka is coming out with a single dose grinder this fall, but I don't know much about the brand....still so new to this...

Thank you. Do consider the Appartamento and Specialita as your initial setup and once you're keen on future upgrading, these brands are good for their resale value too. Flair 58 can be a 2nd machine, suitable for mobility like when travelling or just something extra to have in the house later on. If budge is available, Atom 75 is a good alternative.

Thanks for the video. I own the Specialita for about 8 months now. I started noticing problems with it when I opened it to clean it. First I thought it was the misalignment and I fixed it but even now, I can only get my 20-25 second extraction when the burrs are touching each other. No one talked about this on KZread and I don't know if that's normal or not. Where do you get your sweet spot? The local dealer won't look at it as long as it's still grinding and running. So that's useless.

Probably the type of beans + high pressure in the pump in the machine make it necessary for grind size to be very fine and thats the reason you have to turn the wheel on Specialita to very fine so the burrs are touching. I had the same problem so the solution is probably to try some medium to dark roast beans or to higher the dose in the portafilter. That will make possible to go corser on Specialita and burss will eventually not touch. I mean that is at least one workaround 🙂 the other one should be to lower brew pressure on the pump (if it's too high), but it can jeopardise the warranty so not sure if this is good advice 🙂

@@ficokan yeah but why should I go for a work around when the machine is not working properly. Unfortunately everyone is hyped about this grinder while so many people are having issues with it. I'm not sure if other grinders have issues too because I start to doubt some of the online reviews. I don't want to buy another grinder that's more expensive to end up having issues too.

@@mohannadaljishi7196 well actually I am not sure if anything is bad with Specialita. I mean, it could be, but that should be checked at the service technician. I am just pointing out that on different machine pressures combined with specific type of beans and dose used, it will sometimes come to the point that burrs are touching in order to provide grind size for proper extraction. But if espresso machine is at 9bars pressure, I definitelly agree that grinder should not come to that point that burrs are touching. At least for most usual type of beans and roasts. Cheers

hey! very nice video. I don't mind the latte art part cause the espresso extraction is 100X more important. Wanted to ask, Seems like you've used 17gr (16.9) on a naked portafilter. is that correct? Which basket is that?

Yes am from Malaysia. However, have sold them both and upgraded to a Linea Mini & Major V. Hadn't had time to make another video on them. Hopefully soon. Rocket Appartamento and Eureka Specialita is a great combo for me, moving up from Breville BES870. Easy to use, clean and available upgrade / customisable parts. MCO had me on an upgrading itch to La Marzocco & Mazzer.

Bro, problem I find with my specialita. Lets say my hopper is full (around 350-400g beans), my extraction will be around 40g in 25 seconds. But when my hopper is around 1/3 full, I will extraction of 70g in 25seconds. Means somehow the grind size becomes coarser. I have to keep topping up. Any idea?

I'm unsure if gravity will affect significantly output volume (~50% in your scenario). Generally if age, grind settings, old beans are purged, same tamping force and common variables are not changed, its supposed to get the same extraction. Mostly I load

Specialita range has a 1.4-18g/second grind speed. Unsure how come yours is so much faster. Perhaps need to turn another clockwise rotation to get it finer.

Hi man, i have the same setup (appartamento and specialita) Can you tell me how your espresso tastes? I have the feeling it is too hot and therefore makes it bitter/burnt. Any tips and tricks for the specialita to make the grind better?

Congratulations on the great setup. So far its been a pleasant experience on Specialita grinder with Appartamento. Although, a lot of variable can affect the taste. Unfortunately am not that skilled to advise on this. Perhaps attend a local course by SCA (sca.coffee/) that guides you into Barista/Brewing/Roasting/Sensory courses. Can opt to be certified and recognised, or just sign up for learning purpose.

Make sure to run through around 100 ml of hot water before brewing if the machine has been heating up a long time!

I recommend adjusting the brew pressure on the Appartamento. I felt my Appartamento was always at too high of a pressure. I would get channeling here and there and always thought my grind setting was off. I adjusted the pressure adjustment screw 2 full turns and it is a world's difference. No more burnt/bitter taste anymore, and I find it easier to dial in espresso at the 25-30 second range with the correct in/out dosage. Here is the link for the adjustment. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fomVlKSYfdvVlqQ.html

@@kitoespresso5738 I' m also quite new in the home coffee area. I would propose you to aim for 34 grams with 17 grams of grinded beans in a time of 25-30 seconds. Ideally coffee should start to come out of the portafilter approximately 5 seconds after turning it on It looked like your grinded coffee is too coarse and coffee comes out abit too fast. Try again to dial in 👌 Good luck on both of us on this journey
