ESO DEEP DIVE: What Happened To 2022’s MAJOR Gameplay Feature In The Elder Scrolls Online

Ойындар

In 2022, the main gameplay feature from The Elder Scrolls Online was a card game: Tales of Tribute. From the moment it was announced at ESO’s global reveal, many fans of the franchise were not impressed. It seemed as if a card game was not entirely something that was really desired by many players, as most were hoping for a new class, a new skill line, or even for older content to receive some much-needed love and bug fixes.
While I wasn’t too keen on playing a card game in an MMO, I occasionally played the odd game of Tribute with guildies at our guild events. However, as time passed, fewer and fewer guildies would show up to these events, and we eventually stopped hosting them altogether in light of this complete lack of interest in the game.
With all of this chatter about what’s next in ESO in 2023, I couldn’t help but reflect on 2022’s main gameplay component. I wanted to see how other players perceived Tales of Tribute, how they had been enjoying it, and if they were still even playing it. I was intrigued to see how Tales of Tribute had held up with the ESO player base after all of the debates and cries of dissatisfaction that we had grown used to hearing at the start of the year. So, how is Tales of Tribute doing in ESO in 2023? I tried to find out by asking ESO players to answer some questions for me! This video consists of those responses!

I find this type of commentary video interesting and useful. I don't play ESO anymore, because I just didn't have enough time for it. To prepare for the day that I eventually come back to the game, I watch your videos to try to keep at least a little bit abreast of what's going on in ESO-land without needing to sift through dozens of Reddit threads complaining about this, that, and the other thing. Your sense of humor and way of avoiding needless negativity work well together in this type of content as well.

Honestly, with knowing ZoS and playing ESO for the last 5+ years, they will screw it up somehow. I've moved to guild wars 2 again after burning out of ESO. Boring DLC dungeons and a lack-luster zone with some mechanic which is fun but not to the limit of what other MMOs offer. I just don't feel like they care anymore. They prefer to focus on gem mounts instead of actual storylines, focusing on releasing a tree which can change colours for 3000 crowns rather than spending time making a new and interesting class, implementing more and more bloat systems instead of focusing on server improvements and hardware improvements so we can start seeing new classes, skill lines and even weapons. All ZoS care about is money. All this talk of mass improvements, and ZoS "Taking a step back" won't matter. They'll screw it up at some point, they'll revert back to just focusing on the crown store.

Dude that colour-changing tree that cost 25 bucks was WIIIIILD I nearly fell off my chair when I saw it. The crown store has been popping off with expensive content this year - I'd love for other aspects of the game to receive that same amount of care and attention

They definitely care but its clear they are uninspired and working on auto-pilot. They have no incentive to change anything up. I like ESO 1000x more than ffxiv but with almost every patch Squares introduces something that makes the game just that much better. You can see the care and effort they take with every part of the game. From casual to the more hardcore playerbase. Zos is like here's two dungeons for the next 3 months....

I've moved to GW2 as well. Sure they have a gem store too, but it's instead of a subscription and the expansions are massive. I paid for base game and I felt like they valued me, even without buying any upbrades. It just makes me feel relaxed. i don't mind the subscription model, but the blend of subscription and free to play as ESO does it makes me feel unvalued. Especially when combined with how small their content upgrades are. I liked some of the changes they made before I left, and had told myself I'd.go back, but when the winter event came around, I realized the only reason I wanted to play was to get my fomo fix for the event items, I was acting like an addict. So I'm sticking to GW2 for the most part I like it. I feel like they picked 2 money making methods and that works (paid expansions + gem store). FFxiv picked 2 (sub + paid expansion), but eso picked 4, and that is too much (loot crates, subscription, gem store, paid small expansions).

The thing with the Crown store is, I would assume they have a team of people who exclusively pump out content for that, so as not to take away from level designers, quest designers, and the artists/graphic designers that go along with that. Then you got single items being made, themed and lumped into crown crates, decorations and the like, essentially, stuff that can be pumped out fairly quickly. Put those two together, and you've got a crown store than can constantly pump out decent items whilst the main team works in the foreground. Doesn't justify the prices one bit, $25 for a single tree? My god.

As a gw2 veteran that's played eso off and on since elsweyr I can honestly say that the experience in eso just pales in comparison. The only things I like in eso over gw2 are the housing system and the world skill lines like werewolves. If arenanet ever let us have our own personal houses that have the guild hall decorations I honestly wouldn't have much of a reason to go back to eso. Combat is way better, don't gotta do animation cancelling to get the highest dps unless you're a dragonhunter but that's probably something that needs fixed. WvW is way better and bigger than cyrodiil. Mounts are hands down the best in the entire genre. Fractals are basically WoW's mythic+ but came out before, which are a lot more engaging and fun than vet hard mode dungeons in eso. And to top it off the events that happen in the open world in gw2 are sometimes as massive as a full raid (which we also have). We have our fair share of casual features, but each expansion gave each class a new spec at the very least.

I truly admire the amount of work and quality you put into every vid you post here about ESO. You've added so much to my understanding of this game's strategy and mechanics. To the topic: I've been playing since launch, sub to ESO+, I have the tiger, and High Isle is the first chapter I couldn't be bothered buying simply because Bethesda seems to have stopped caring about keeping the game relevant anymore, or even keeping vet players coming back. They dropped the ball on PvP so long ago that they don't even know where the ball is anymore and they certainly haven't shown a care about the PvP population of players and content creators fleeing the game. As stated in your quoted comments: "If i wanted to play cards - I'd have bought a card game." Anything more than $8 is too much to pay for several hours of content, nerfed antiquities, and a card game attached to a 2nd rate chapter of an MMO that seems to be in maintenance mode.

Well written and well put together video as always homie. 500 word Tedd Talk inbound since this is so near and dear to my heart, apologies in advance; As you mentioned, Tribute was the perfect storm. It never should've been the major selling point of the expansion pack if they intended for it to be a fun downtime activity to kill a few minutes every now and again. That coupled with some of the buggiest launches and a storyline that a lot of people hated meant people were already writing off anything to do with High Isle. I don't think the game could have been explained to players worse, I couldnt follow anything that was happening in the Dev stream or what happened in the tutorial until I played a couple hands of it and most people aren't going to invest that kind of time into learning something they already dont like. Reward coffers is the one area I always feel people are incredibly hypocritical of. Yes the rewards are big garbage but can you imagine the uproar if they put actually good drops in there? Imagine if antiquity type gear was being forced into Tribute coffers and just how many people would be complaining about how they're being "forced" into play Tribute? It's an absolute lose/lose scenario. Last I do have a genuine bone to pick with people saying the game is too luck based, yes there is the occasional unwinnable hand but they're few and far between. I think you can attest to the fact that the people winning the majority of the games at our events were the same names speaks a lot to this and that players who said it was luck based didnt properly understand their options. I do wish somebody would still cover it, I always feel bad when I get comments on old Tribute videos and I dont have the heart to mention I dont play Tribute anymore (though that's mostly because I log into ESO like once a month more than anything else) so I know theres still small pockets of people who want to play and learn it, but there was nowhere to really go with it once people had everything unlocked. Sorry for the rant, appreciate ya and everything you and your community do

Oh man, that ToT dev stream was...uh... I usually watch developer streams in their entirety because I'm really interested in any ESO development-related news and updates, but I remember dipping from that stream early because it was a hot mess. I didn't understand a thing. It honestly made tribute look much more challenging to grasp than it really was and I wouldn't be surprised if that alone turned a lot of people off from it. I will say though, about your point concerning luck, I *did* defeat the winner of our ToT torunament at a Tribute Night event once from sheer luck (great cards in the tavern when it was my turn combined with some orgnum spam lmao). You know I'm not a good Tribute player by any means and yet I bested them But yes, the same gamers were consistently kicking ass at our events. I think that you'd be able to offer some valuable insights if you ever did want to make a video discussing people's impressions of Tribute as a very heavily RNG based game. Maybe you could highlight some counterplay options when it seems like your opponent has received a godly collection of cards early game, or when you've got some crappy cards? If you ever wanted to make another Tribute-related video that is. I've been enjoying your Warhammer vids in the meantime

Unpopular opinion, I’m somewhat glad it was included because I wanted more RPG content that wasn’t just combat focused because my biggest frustration with ESO is that every overland quest (with a few minor examples) boils down to “go kill this thing, go collect this item, solve this basic puzzle” and I wanted new rpg skills that were not combat focused but more emergent gameplay focused like the other elder scrolls games. I think it could been execute better but I’m glad we got something that wasn’t just combat focused.

Hi Arttea (and Happy New Year if that's not too late!) Wish I'd seen your questionnaire because I'd like to contribute here. I wasn't looking forward to ToT - card games not my thing - but found I enjoyed it to start with. I watched some of the guides, and PinkApple and OldSaltySean were particularly helpful in explaining how to play the game and filled the gaps left by the absolutely terrible official tutorial. My problem came when I played against others, and kept seeing the same people over and over again when I played. I became very embarrassed if I had a bad run of games and it really put me off playing entirely. I wish they'd made a public leaderboard for the keen pvp players AND an anonymous board for people learning or who weren't as keen on the cut-and-thrust. I think it might have encouraged more players to try and learn the game if they'd been afforded some privacy to make dumb mistakes and lose games as they were learning to play. Such a shame. I probably won't ge into it again.

Their objective is to increase accessibility by reducing player power, play how you want as long as it's ice staff, reward mastery by putting most cool rewards into the crown store, and make it true enough to the TES series to keep the franchise relevant until TES6 comes out. Cynical take? Yes. But until we get good and clear dev communication, any theory is valid.

I won't challenge data with anecdote, but in my case ToT was about last reason why I didn't buy the chapter in the autumn as I usually do. U35 and sledgehammer balancing, performance issues (on PCEU) and long-standing bugs, formulaic release schedule with seemingly less and less content, op items behind paywall (at chapter release) that get inevitably demolished because they refuse to balance PvP and PvE separately, lack of new PvP content (Volendrung came with Elsweyr 4 years ago), lacking dev communication and STILL having EU maintenance from 9 am until 2/4/6 pm (even on paid holidays) all came before ToT being the main feature on my reasons of not buying the chapter. I just wish the devs (or maybe corporate that's not supporting the devs) cared at least half as much about ESO as Arttea and some other content creators do.

Great breakdown with an impressive level of depth. For me, I naturally understood the tactics of the game and enjoyed it. I grinded out the decks, and grinded to the ladder. Then the first season reset... I would have to grind to the ladder again? Ugh, fine. Unfortunately, queue times were much longer by this time. This, along with the unbalanced cards and decks, and ridiculous RNG at times was too much for me. It was too painful to wait 5+ minutes to get RNG rolled to lose rank progress, just to wait 5+ minutes to try again. Grinding for season completion was out, and that was not cool to my completion urges. It's fun and ok to do a game here and there, but that's about it. I also don't think this should have been a primary mechanic for an expansion. This should have been a kind of bonus thing behind some other addition. I still think some sweeping changes to ranks (get rid of them), rewards, decks, and card balance that this could be a really fun background mechanic.

Yeah I agree - I think that if ToT would have been some secondary component that was added in High Isle, a lot more people would probably be ok with it and subsequently not harbor those (understandable) feelings of bitterness towards the game. I never bothered to play ToT seriously, but your description of having to grind for season completion makes me grateful that I didn't do the same 😅

Why I didn't like ToT -the elder scrolls series has a superior card game (elder scrolls legends) It has a better presentation and is more easy to pick up. - the card game is is a bit boring to watch and not easy to understand. - the fact they gave this card game a proper rank system opposed to battlegrounds -and why would I pay a sizeable amount of money for a card game I have to sit down and play and do nothing else. when I can play elder scrolls legends on my phone and wait for a battleground queue? or wait for a Dungeon pop. It just was not thought through.

My theory is that a lot of people simply don't like things that stray too far from the "core" gaming experience of a game. "Forcing" players into slightly different gameplay to keep a game fresh is a good thing, but making them stray too far will make a lot of them uncomfortable to the point that they don't even want to give it a try.

I love ESO. Been playing on and off since the Beta. And I always come back to it. At the very least, I log in and get my log in, sometimes if I have mental spoons, I get my 18-characters of writs done. And other days, I have goals (IE: grinds, dungeons). I played a bit of tribute at the start, and didn't bother finishing the quest or unlocks personally. I'm a fairly casual card game player (played several other card games, but currently don't have a main card game rn since the changes in Hearthstone). It wasn't enough for me- the carrot (transmutes) - to do it that often. And I just felt like I was playing the same people - for better or worse. For me the rewards weren't enough, and the cute stuff (IE: the dog, the emote ect)- was to rng to try to grind. But my partner loves tribute, and he plays it daily, but he also likes solo-competitive aspects of the game (IE: Arena score grinding in vMA or vVH). Its a chill way to be challenged by another player for him, and he doesn't have to rely on a team (IE: pvp or trials) to achive the goal. ANd yes, he's one of those people who want an IRL game board. I feel like with Tales being locked behind doing content (IE: to unlock the advance decks you have to do delves, quests ect)- hard core card game players arn't happy (IE: The people from ES Legends are without a game other then MTG:A or Hearthstone right now). There's not out of game app to play it for someone say the phone on the go, which would of been a great boon for people to grind rewards. And people in game, as primary MMO players, it feels like people only play it as a means for a 'dailies' to get rewards easily- but not a serious grind.

The main issue I had with ToT (and the reason I never got into it despite being someone who likes card games) was that it was sold as the main "new feature" for the high isle chapter, when in its design it really should have been either a separate spin off game or a supplementary feature alongside an actual gameplay feature that adds to eso as a game itself. It felt to me like a complete misuse of Dev resources to push forward a mediocre idea instead of those resources being focused into improving the game itself.

First. Thank you for doing these polls and all the research you do, the editing in these videos is fantastic. Second. The poll gave me difficulty because I didn't really fall into any of the options. I love card games and I was somewhat interested, but it's not what I was hoping for from ESO. After Mythics and Companions, I was expecting something combat related (like spellcrafting). I think it was a poor decision to leave us with 3+ years of no new class or combat related improvements. I spent all of the PTS playing TOT, but when it launched, I only played for a week before getting bored and realizing ESO wasn't worth my time this year. By the time U35 news came out, I just gave up on ESO and U36 further solidified those feelings. TOT itself is pretty fun, but it's not very flashy compared to a game like Heathstone which means it's hard to get people interested in it. It's not fun to watch via streaming, but it's fun to play and can be pretty strategic. Besides the whole Armory issue (which they nerfed), I generally feel like I can control the outcome. It's 30% luck, 70% strategy and that makes it pretty fun.. But I'm not going to play ESO for a card game, I'll play it again if I come back, but that depends on if 2023 shows promise in listening to the community. PVP needs more, more maps for BGs. We need more weapons or spell crafting. They need to complete hybridization. Until they address those concerns, ESO is on the backburner. I'll continue to watch your vids though :P Giving me an ESO fix. Cheers and I hope next week we find out they're really investing in ESO again. ESO is going to be on the big stage for Microsoft and it's eventually going to game pass. This Microsofts most profitable MMO and they would be wise to invest into it.

Great video, thank you Arttea! My personal experience with ToT was skepticism, ended up doing it for the achievements, and never touched it again (Housing is my Endgame, Dragon Statues from HM Sunspire, vet dungeons for the busts as chess pieces, etc). My own personal issues with it; as a card game I prefer Riot's Legends of Runeterra more, when I was in the ToT interface my CPU usage went higher than Overland content, and from a rewards perspective 12 characters running through Rank 1 of Cyro was a more efficient source of Transmutes and if I need crafting mats I have too many surveys to use up already.

  • @Arttea

    @Arttea

Holy that chess build sounds really neat!! And yeah, absolutely - I get the impression that there are much better ways to earn a lot of the rewards that playing ToT may provide (transmutes from pvp, materials from writs/surveys, etc). For those that do not wish to participate in group activities, like pvp or running dungeons, I suppose that's where the transmutes reward really stands out.

After a few matches I found myself being paired with players with all the decks that would just wipe the floor with me because either it was the first time I encountered the deck or wasn't experienced with it. This kind of left me not wanting to que for matches anymore. I tried just playing NPC's but that just became way too easy. Too bad ZOS doesn't do such a deep dive into how players feel. The main reason why absolutely hated TOT when it was first announced was because Zenimax really likes to recycle content with every new expansion that comes after it. Not only was it a "dead" feature for me that I had to pay for getting the new expansion but it is very likely that with every upcoming expansion we will receive less content as a portion of it will be dedicated to TOT. World events that spawn mobs with a boss at the end have been recycled this way with every patch after Summerset, each bigger patch we get a few new mythics etc. etc. so it wouldn't surprise me that in the future one of the busted new mythics or some other powerful rewards will locked behind TOT. Effectively forcing you to spend time grinding it just for the reward (transmutes don't really count as there are many other ways of acquiring them). For me it has been 3 years of "cut content" with every new expansion since Elsweyr as antiquities, companions and TOT were really underwhelming (especially the former two). Antiquities being arguably the most "useful" but in the end it just another way to grind the next best mythic item (which is just an mmo thing so it doesn't feel as bad). I'm not against such features as they are loved by many players (especially companions), I'm just against them being such a core part of a supposedly biggest content drop each year. And since we don't receive a lot of new content outside the chapter releases it feels really bad knowing that with each new chapter release I'll be paying for new TOT decks and new companions that I'll never use instead of them reworking a dead skill, item set etc. I just have 0 faith in Zenimax adding new companions/TOT stuff as ADDITIONAL content but instead, I'm afraid they will become SUBSTITUTES for something else we will never see.

So the game Neverwinter used to have a mini game thing called Neverwinter Gateway that you sent your companions into and when you earned rewards the account was linked to your game account and you earned the rewards in your mail in game. I feel like if ToT were released like that it would have been a hit, something to play when out and about away from your PC or Consol that can earn you rewards i'd be a lot more on board with. ...probably worth noting that that feature of NW was removed because it was abused like hell though.

I wasn't interested in it, didn't liked it at first but I tried it a bit (even did some ranked matches to see how it was, finished with an okay-ish rank) but ultimately still didn't really like it for various reasons.. As said in the video, some matches are over on the first few turns thanks to busted cards/combos, but also people waiting the very last second to finish their turn or that you can still choose a deck someone hasn't unlocked yet (thus potentially putting you at advantage, or disadvantage if it's the other way around). I still had some fun games but it's not my cup of tea.

Ah yeah that's a good point about playing with decks that you haven't unlocked yet - I experienced this a lot during my guild's Tribute Night events because I only have the four base decks. Whenever guildies would whip out some locked deck that I didn't have, I'd spend a lot of time reading the cards because I had NO IDEA how they worked. I didn't know how to counter them, OR how to use them properly because I didn't have much experience with them, which often meant I would lose those matches. Like you - I too had some fun games, but it's ultimately just not my thing.

I've played what I consider to be a lot of Tales Of Tribute to the point of completing Marunji's quest on all 18 characters in a day occasionally. The thing I find most frustrating is the amount of luck involved. I accept that there is a degree of luck in most card games and it isn't so bad when, as was previously the case, my good and bad fortune were frequently coming and going. Recently, however, I seem to have extended periods of good luck followed by equally extended periods of bad luck, sometimes to the point of it seeming anything but random. Obviously, the good lucks runs don't bother me too much, but the bad luck runs areextremely frustrating. It wasn't so bad when the luck would come and go, but when you are ranked in the top 2.5% and then lose 10 games in a row, even when you have by far the better deck, it begins to wear you down. I don't know if anyone else has a similar experience, but it seems likely, because there are people that I had never beaten that I then beat consistently and people that I have never lost to that I then lose to consistently. When you play a fair amount you see the same names quite frequently, which also suggests quite a small group playing regularly. With just over a week of the current season remaining, the top 10% is around 100 players on PC NA, so only 1000 or so have reached the top rank on the most populated server.

Wasn't a fan when they announced it but they tied a bunch of cool furnishings to it so I had to jump in. Complex game with so many strategies it took some time to figure out and I found myself enjoying the game. So I'm in the wasn't interested but ended up liking it camp, I played a lot, my decks are all maxed out... BUT... The stuff I wanted very rarely dropped (what else is new) and was mostly tied to PvP which I really wasn't interested in. I could far more easily make gold doing other stuff and just buy the tapestries in the guild traders. Once I earned (3) and bought (10+) what I wanted, I never went back. ToT is a huge time sink in a game that is already a huge time sink. If I could realistically earn the rewards playing a couple games a day Vs hardest AI I probably would, but grinding ToT for days for squat, f that. PS LOL at people complaining a card game is based on luck, dafuk!?!

I Have mentioned this in commends under different videos so I'll mention it here. Try to imagine Tales of Tribute being on mobile devices like for example Hearstone or Gwent, you can play on phone or tablet wherever you are, bus, school, work waiting somewhere for whatever, and everyone on mobile could play on external servers co ppl from pc, xbox and ps could play together. Your mobile account would be linked to in game account on your platform, so your rewards would be synchronized, obviously for ranking matches if you are pc player and account linked to pc version of the game you would be queued with players from same platform, or just create separate overall ranking. I honestly think this would be the step to save this game for years, way more people would play it as they could benefit in game while not having access to the console or pc. It is really fun deck-builder game, but extremely boring in mmo space, especially on console

I think they could take hints from other systems in the game that have died (not many people doing them) and the reasons why they aren't used anymore. Feel this survey touched on one of the reasons being rewards for the time does not often make it worth it or requires lot of setting up to possibly make it worth. Looking at the thieves guild and dark brotherhood most people who arent interested in it won't do it since the rewards and the time to get to a point where its easy (build, skill line leveling). I had used to have those activities as my daily thing and now I do not do it as much (part of it is I spend less time on the game) as the fun I had from the heist/killing has gone down to where the rewards are not worth it in part the rewards seem to be losing value atm and also there are bugs that I have sent reports in for them for bit that never get addressed. I think if they want people to get into their systems they do need to go heavy handed on giving some rewards as people have stated their isn't much rewards or things people can earn. I mean they can even rework/add stuff to make it more interesting. For ToT they could add more in-game support for the game by having a feature in guilds built in to make tournaments/watching them easier they could also just have in-game tournaments where people can get rewards and stuff and people can compete and watch. I like playing ToT when I have the energy to add it into my daily schedule but the time can be daunting especially if you lose for what you get it makes it longer for you to complete the quest or rank up. I like when play a challenging match and its neck to neck but how the game is its also very easy to get games where if both know what they are doing and one gets lucky they can just steamroll. I think in general they need more community based stuff added into their systems i mean even heists they can have like a queue for a special heist where take a team to complete. Edit: I also understand that part of MMO is it needs the community to host/organize things but the game itself does not have many systems that make it easy to do such things as well as neglects lot of QoL stuff for guilds. Idk it would be nice to see zos have smaller events for things that can bring the community together more. Other content creators have mentioned that zos relies to much on the good graces of its community to pull the slack and do stuff for them which I agree with. Nefas brought up the point of PTS as an example.

I played my second game of ToT yesterday actually bc I seen a random novice npc and wanted to give it a shot. I had no idea how to play and it took me like 30 mins to win the match. If the games were way shorter and felt more casual I'd be way more enticed to play. Maybe they are and I'm just bad at it, but I would expect a card-based minigame like that to be 5-10 mins max. Either way, when it got announced I was let down bc I had my hopes up that "next year's feature will be better" compared to companions. Hopefully this year we don't get another underwhelming feature.

@@Arttea I'd definitely recommend playing it if you prefer monster slaying and interacting with sentient monsters like the clever rock trolls, The intriguing dopplers or the trickster godlings, If you like an enchanting and beautiful land the blood and wine dlc has Toussant, Filled with knights and vampires, If you want something to fear the hearts of stone dlc has you covered.

I’ll be honest I actually like side stuff to do I wish they’d add more like maybe elder scrolls version of chess or more antiquity opportunities maybe a skill line for being a bard more roleplaying aspects would be nice since they exist in Skyrim with the help of mods I would be very interested in spell crafting as well since I haven’t seen it since oblivion

I very much appreciate these types of videos that you make. I like all your content though. Stuff like this I think is really important to support our community. But stuff like the pacifist run of High Isle is fun and hilarious. And of course gold guides are welcome education. You make great content, Arttea, and I appreciate all of it. 🖤

Well, for me, I had a lot of real-life things happen and spending time and money on an MMO that you have to pay to get all the pretty stuff is why I had to step away. My health went very hardcore downhill, and I got married, as well as got my own small business started up, so right now, with the phone-game style content and the phone-game style of “pay for all the fun stuff!” I just felt like I was wasting my time and could come back later when it had decent content to sift through

Started playing eso with the High Isle chapter. Played ToT at the beginning but found it took up too much of the play time I have. There is so much for me to play through and the card game seemed to take me out of zone quests and story lines. If I had been a long time player I may be more interested. On the other hand I didn't know the crystals were a reward till watching this. I may go back to ToT.

Great video :) As an ESO active player who bough High Isle on pre launch, I have to say that I never tried Tales of Tribute and still don't have any interest on it mostly for the same criticisms that were presented on the video. I also never unlocked a companion😅

I played it once and enjoyed it immensely. I think it's a good thing added to the game and really want to get into it more. I CAN see the disappointment that people had, though. There was a lot that needed attention and here we got a card game. If I could trade tales for better pvp or revamped combat I would. It should have went on the back burner.

I dont want spell crafting but adding a new skill line for each school of magic from TES would be very nice, not all at once but one line every chapter with 4-5 spells and some passives

My friend and I play TES legends (hearthstone clone) from time to time, and we just find it a more enjoyable card game than ToT.

I enjoyed playing ToT, but I haven't played it since about a month after its release. The problem is that it is not a game that you can play between other activities. The length of the games (even with a fast queue) means that you have to set aside time to play the game specifically. I'd rather spend my in-game time doing trials or grinding skill points/gear, etc.

When I found out that a card game is the main feature, I didn't buy the expansion. I pretty much have given up on ESO. I'm watching for the 'new feature' to see what it is.

I immedietly decided to not buy HI in itself ever, given it has nothing but a dlc zone's quests worth of content for me, and the trial has a set for me which is just a +1000 stam version of an already existing one i would never use. Then the nerfs happened, i was not playing much back then, but when the damage nerfs/combat changes happened in 35 and 36, together they felt like just an unneccesary change for the sake of change. DK has been hit once again while all others were buffed (my GF and i are both DK mains). Im an endgamer, all the difficulty for me are the vet trials and all the goals are the trifecta mounts. If you pay twice for ESO+ and do all DLC dungeons for content its then dead content again, i farmed some of them for loot, some on vet for titles etc. This means the game offers 2 months of grinding in dungeons you will never go back to, and in trials, the loot runs. Community is dead now more than ever, PVP was always bad and still they change the main balance in its favor, disregarding pve's. I was doing trading couple times, almost got into housing too, this game is just shallow after you go through it ONCE. The combat system was the saving point, despite being too OP everywhere but in vet trials, and they homogenized it. I started a NB and got it to endgame and it was easy, despite being the hardest class before. Sometimes random maintenances happened through the week, we got back from work and "naah, you cant play today premium member", not to mention i never heard of a game which does weekly maintenances for half a day and then more until 11pm where servers are 100% down. We got back from abroad a month ago, none of use even bothered to look at ESO since. Visual rippling updates but the 9 yo dungeon(s) is still bugged as shit and you are forced to stay in a door for a minute? And now they want us to make our own spells, cause they destroyed their game? Lol. All they did in the past 2 years is making useless followers and to integrate heartstone into the core game, it even has its own tab under our frequently used but rather useless daily system which they appear to change once in 2-3 months now. Sadly, we doing the devs work wont revive the game from this direction, its lost its identity as a TES game. And some of them are right, if i wanna decorate i play sims, if i want cards i play cards not an mmo. If you write down what you dont like about a game it makes it much easier to not miss it...

I don’t even play this game, but I hope the spell crafting thing ends up true. Specifically because I hope people will make hilariously exploitative or broken spells like in the single player games.

I like your videos, and am going back, when time allows, to watch some of your older videos. I like this one, and your methods of investigation. As far as ToT goes, I'm not interested in a card game in my MMO. I thought it was dumb, was irritated that the devs would go this way, and just never bothered to play, absolutely no interest whatsoever.
