@@MooncakeEnglish Thank you for your answer, i'm from Brazil.
Hi, It seems to me lesson planning is borderline impossible, yet everybody on KZread says it's simple. So first we need to get all our materials ready. We need to completely understand the materials of course. Then we need to move the desks around. When the students come in, we definitely need to be making eye contact. And we definitely need to be grinning from ear to ear. Then we need to jump up and down and sing a song, so they don't feel bored. Then we need to do an introduction that has nothing to do with the lesson because we still don't want them to feel bored. Then we do a pre-target language explanation. Then we need to explain to the students how to do some game with the language. Then we need to make sure they are getting the language correct while they do the game in pairs or groups. Then we need to stop the game and explain the target language again, pointing out any mistakes we heard while we monitored them while they played the game. During all this time, we need to have handouts and pictures and fuzzy things around and put them on a white board or use as a hand puppet to help explain the lesson. And this is all as you just got off a plane and you're 50,000 miles from home. And in the interview, they're like: "Hey can you do a demo?" "Frarajaca, frarajaca doh ray me, doh ray me..." Jesus. Did I miss anything? Do we have classes one right after the other? Do you ever forget the words to the song- perhaps as you're thinking about the "future continuous tense" lesson that at some point you're actually going to focus on? What happens when you're jumping up and down like a monkey singing a song like frarajaca, and they don't feel like singing? Isn't it exhausting?

Hi, Jema! I was wondering about the prepositions example you briefly mentioned. I tried to lay out a game like this but got stuck when I was reminded what prepositions are and are not. I got stuck in the "A is left of B" scenario and realised that the preposition is "of" not "left", which then made me wonder if kids of these ages are even ready for the topic of prepositions. I asked ChatGPT a few questions regarding this concept and eventually got to the satisfactory answer of the focus not being on the grammar, but more on the spatial awareness aspect. Can you perhaps bridge this gap? Am I overthinking this and where?
Really helpful🎉

Hi Jema! I was wondering if you had any tips on teaching young learners about personal space? It is a big problem in my classroom, and students often get uncomfortable.
@MooncakeEnglish
Жыл бұрын
Hi Victoria! With personal space constant reminders worked for me (it takes time for them to learn). I would remind everyone at the beginning of class about keeping hands to ourselves and then again throughout the lesson. I would also highlight those that have improved and praise them in front of the class (positive reinforcement). You could make a small chant or song about personal space too to help them understand and remember. I hope that helps 😊

Hi there,I have a question I really appreciate it if you answer it and help me in this situation, I've been teaching English since 2019 but in my country it isn't like school we teach people in some educational institutions,now it's my question,at my work there are some rules that I cannot get used to them, for example all of the teachers have to change their class even their students at the end of each terms and somehow I think it's unfair even useless for students. My bosses do this cause they think it's a good idea for students who are learning and they need to get used to all different teachers' methods. What's your opinion is it really a good idea??
@MooncakeEnglish
Жыл бұрын
Hi Nazanin! Good question. For younger students I personally prefer to have teachers stay with their classes. It offers stability for the students that are young and teachers know exactly where their students are with their development. That said, there are benefits to be being exposed to different teachers and accents. Most schools I've worked with haven't been able to keep teachers with one class for the full kindergarten years and have often changed teachers. Unfortunately it really does depend on the schools ability to keep teachers long term. Hopefully the transitions go smoothly at your institution 😊
