My siblings and all always busted a gut laughing at the noises they made when stepping on the rocks in the bog.

This reminds me of The Wizard of Oz, especially with the female protagonist going on a quest and meeting three guys who join her.

He was in a paradox mindset at the time he was in love with her, he was jealous of her, he needed a heir to throne, he had to keep up the show in front of the goblins etc so all this was conflicting altogether in him and effecting himself

He would if it meant that no one else could have her. Villains and antagonists alike have the same philosophy when it comes to the things they desire. They'd rather it be destroyed than let anyone else have it.
