Escaping Gangs: Death, Jail Or Redemption | SPAC Nation

Ойын-сауық

First in a new observational documentary series following the radical work of Church SPAC Nation as it tries to help young Londoners escape gang culture.
Former gang leader Kevin has just become a pastor. He is now trying to persuade high-ranking members of his former gang to turn their lives around. We see Kevin’s struggles as he tries to bring Beckton drill rapper and gang leader, Young Dizz - reputed to be one of the most dangerous young people in London - into the church. Young Dizz finds it hard to give up the violent music and lifestyle, despite Kevin's efforts to help him escape. Meanwhile, the church is worried that new recruit, Jahiem, 16, is being sucked deeper into drug-dealing in Brixton.
This is the first of three films in the series, released each Sunday.

I feel like this church needs to distinguish between building entrepreneurs and building faith within the people that go here. Getting drug dealers and young people in gangs to change their ways should be applauded but the gospel is really not what they are selling to these young people in my opinion, they're selling a lifestyle. So what I feel needs to be done is have spac nation church and have a spac nation organisation. One of which helps people come to Christ and then the other can be a separate organisation that helps people who have taken a wrong turn in life become entrepreneurs. Not bashing spac nation it just seems like there's too much going on and christianity isn't the primary focus.

How else can you introduce religion to the youth of today? They need to enjoy being there. I’m not about following everything said in the bible. Things change, generations have different ways of doing things it’s as simple as that. It’s just such a close minded way of thinking about things

S kay 1) 1 John 1:6-7 - that is a fair pint, but it is ironic and quite paradoxical that people are wearing clothing that they would’ve worn to go and commit crimes in the house of the Lord. It shows they still haven’t fully let go of that lifestyle. 2) do you go to the church or? The leaders of the church literally all wear red bottoms and lots of designer. The pastors car? Have you not seen their music videos? Pls, as someone who has visited that church, I know what I’m talking about. 1 John 2:6, Micah 6:8

Jack McLaughlin I’m aam part of the youth of today, and I can easily say there are many ways of introducing religion to the youth of today. I respect how they’re getting the youth off of the streets, I’m more concerned about the false teachings. Yes, things change, don’t you think God already anticipated that? Biblical teachings, when perceived correctly can still be applied to our generation. Deuteronomy 8:6. You might choose to not follow the bible, but for me my walk with God has come leaps and bounds from reading the bible and praying that God allows me to read it with understanding and open mindedness.

@@seekndestroy_5983 My thoughts exactly, like Jesus uses peoples past (mistakes) and creates purpose from it, so obviously, He will use ex gang-members.. bc they know exactly what got them into that lifestyle (lack of opportunity & hunger for success/freedom) and now they use it as a tool to point the lost towards Jesus (true peace & freedom). God gave everyone unique ways to reach the souls.. just because it is unconventional to some doesn't make it pseudo or wicked. God loves all His children and he knows how each of their hearts are and how to engage them. For some it's peace, others it's financial stability -- (what most risked their freedom and lives to get out in the streets). I pray that they continue to reach each soul and ignite their purpose for God's glory. Yes, it is evident that the material stability is what attracts them.. we can all think of something that first attracted us to God (find a husband or receive healing for an illness, or something else that is from this material world), but after maturing in faith we gained awareness and transformation on WHO He truly is, with time and patience ****through relationship with Jesus & the church community****, God reveals Himself more and more, and we mature and stop expecting blessing, but learn what it means to be a Christian... to give and guide others to life and peace... so yeah it documentary wont go into depth... but I CHALLENGE those who want to judge and assume.. maybe look up a sermon from the church and see if they are preaching the true gospel of freedom from the enslavement that this world oppresses (ESPECIALLY MINORITIES) into what feels like a trap of sin... at least they are doing something about it.. instead of complaining on the internet.. for those who aren't satisfied, how many souls did you win for Jesus this week? ? ?

The thing is, they need Jesus for the renewing of the mind, plain human initiative doesn't suffice, if it did, they wouldn't be gang members in the first place. Don't judge, because them changing their ways is DEFINITELY glorifying God. It's a process and the church is for ALL children of God, not just the saints. Jesus crossed dangerous territory all in the name of love and to show people their TRUE identity.. only way to show people is to bring the church to them and point them towards a better way. Bible says, God will judge us the same way we judge others, so it's good for us to keep ourselves humble and walk in the spirit of gentleness as Jesus did himself.

The true Gospel of Jesus Christ doesn’t require cars/ clothes/ material wealth/ balaclavas etc to win souls for the kingdom. However, it seems these youths are being bribed to stop what they’re doing. Other than being financially supported by a kind man, nothing shows that they have accepted Christ. It’s like going to university because you get a free grant 🤔 it just seem like a different version of gang culture. I hope this changes in the next episode.

BigC90 90 most of those in the middle class are mainly targeted by affiliation. You could live in a nice area and be a target just by the people you hang around or area you go to school in? You can’t say a lot of people have the opportunity when there are ALOT of people who are living in council flats because they have no where to go - and sadly that’s where you see alot of the crime. If you live in a poor area chances of u turning to crime are more likely than someone in a middle class / rich area because that’s what you are more likely to see. Most of these people committing crimes are doing it because they’re broke. And when it comes to young black men it’s a disproportionate percentage of them who are targeted by police and also suffer institutional racism in the UK - so when there are no opportunity for those percentage of people what do you think they’re going to do? I’m not condoning any of it cos it’s DEFINITELY not only young black men but when you differentiate the opportunities they have compared to others - It’s not always a choice & it’s been like this for decades so couldn’t the government have helped them by now?

I really don’t know if I can take this seriously. It seems like a mess for me. They may be doing great things for people but i feels there’s more to it that I’m very sceptical off. Just something off. Can’t put my finger on it

London actually is one of the safest and best places for black people to live. However, no matter where you live in the world, if there are areas or pockets of society where people are living in relative poverty, this usually then leads onto things like desperation, depression, single parent families, perceived lack of opportunities, hopelessness etc. Then sooner or later these areas will become a hotbed for crime. And unfortunately here in London it is usually black people who live in these types of areas hence the high crime rate.

It is safe for them, they just take the piss and create illusionary hardships and ghettos for themselves and then it becomes real and spirals out of control, they create these hellholes themselves
