EscapeArtist - 10 ADV modifications for a 2nd generation KLR650

Фильм және анимация

This EscapeArtist video looks at 10 modifications that I have done to my 2008, 2nd generation KLR650. The stock KLR650 is a dual purpose motorcycle but has certain components that either NEED replacing with better quality items or will become a more enjoyable and reliable bike with some after market parts.
The video looks at why I made the changes and a rough cost for each item.

Thanks for sharing. I have a number of upgrades on my '08 of which I'd say the taller windscreen is one of my faves. I, too, have braided brake lines (fr and b). They were already on when I got the bike. And I'd say one of other top upgrades (changes) was going to a 16T front sprocket. Keeps the rpm's down to 4000 at about 100-103 kph which helps keep any oil consumption down to a very minor amount if any at all. Great video ! Thanks !

Thanks for your comments. I'm going to give the 16 tooth front sprocket a go. Thanks for the heads up. Cheers!

KLR Dash for the win! That was the first modification on my 2018 KLR, along with the same ZeroGravity windscreen. Oh, I'm a new Sub. Great content!

I literally parked my 08 on the stock bash plate (not by choice) and it survived. The stock handguards are still the originals at 37,500 miles with several big offs.

Being in the US everything that I’ve priced is way cheaper than you mentioned. I bought it used and it already has crash bars and solid hand guards and a pretty good exhaust. The brake lines indicator lights are a good idea. I’m also looking for rear crash bars that don’t block the passenger foot pegs.

Yeah all of the expenses noted in the video will be more in Aussie dollars than US. You'll probably find that pannier racks will perform the job of rear crash bars.

By chance do you remember the make and model number of the extended shift lever? That short one bugs the heck out of me. Every time I stick my toes down under it I think of hitting something and breaking my ankle.

It is a Moose 3/4 inch extended gear lever specifically for the KLR650. I bought it out of the United States for about $75 AUD. 3/4 of an inch doesn't seem much but it works perfectly with motorcycle boots on. Couldn't tell you the part number sorry.

They are a Kawasaki bar end mirror. I can't remember the exact name of them as I purchased them some time ago. I got sick of the mirrors twisting every time I put the bike down. Sorry I can't help more than that. I do like the look of them over the stock mirrors. Cheers.

What size screen do you have, I assume it's a Zero Gravity Double Bubble? I'm 6'1 and might try the sport touring screen.

It is a zero gravity touring screen which should work nicely for you. It's much better than the klr touring screen.

I imagine the 3rd generation bikes will need similar changes. I also think that very few of the 2nd gen parts will fit the new bikes. My biggest hope is that the new screen is better..

Its a zero gravity touring screen. But it is attached to a "Klrdash" which props it to a more upright position buffeting the wind over your helmet. Took me ages to find the right set up. It works really well.
