Escape to Singapore's Food Heaven: Maxwell Food Centre Tour
A complete tour of Maxwell Food Center in Singapore. Located on Maxwell Road in the heart of Chinatown, this hawker center has over 100 stalls. The food centre originally started in 1929 as a wet market built on top of Chinese burial grounds. It lasted through the Japanese Occupation and housed a community kitchen that fed the poor and displaced after the war. It was renovated into its current form and opened in 1987. The most famous stall is definitely Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice: This stall is famous for its award-winning chicken rice, which is made with fresh chicken and fragrant rice.
Maxwell Food Centre is located at 1 Kadayanallur St, Singapore 069184

I can't wait to go there in a few months! I keep hearing about how the old-school hawker culture is quickly fading with so many elder hawkers hanging it up for good, so I want to experience that treasure while it is still around. As always, thanks for another awesome video!

That hawker center looks really neat. I like all the different varieties of dishes you can get there including the Hainanese chicken rice.

Hi Chris. Thanks for the tour. It might not be the prettiest place, but it sure does have some great food options. Chicken and Rice for me please. Thanks for sharing and take care.

Thanks James! Chicken Rice for me too! 😀
Just had this famous chicken rice at the recommended locale and it was NOTHING SPECIAL at all! Tastes are different I guess...it was not worth standing in line for 25 minutes. It's a great video none the less! Had a wonderful soursop juice there!
There is another hawker centre in Chinatown (Chinatown Complex 2nd floor beside Buddha Tooth Relic Temple) which is the BIGGEST hawker centre in Singapore with around 260 stalls. You might want to checkout there.

Chris, I'll be in Singapore next month but I'll be limited to the Changi area as I am just using this as a stopover to meet my Singaporean friends for the first time in 3 years. Any suggestions around the airport as a place to have breakfast?

Head to Changi Village Hawker Center. It's only a 5-min taxi ride from the airport.

That's the Fish Village stall at 1:53 that called the police on a tourist for taking a pair of disposable chopstick?
