Certainly serving some of the smallest towns one could dream of. I was last there in 2011 and I do remember hundreds of cars jamming that line one couldn't help but think of the problems they would encounter if you had to dig out specific cars. Thank you for your coverage of this subject

Not always but a lot of time when cars are stored for other parties, there is a "no cherry picking" requirement. And if specific cars are requested, then a hefty switch charge usually makes things worth the effort. But yes, it is still a pain in the ....

Interesting video! Wish we had a time machine and could go back and see all of these tracks operating in their hey day.

When i worked out of green bay for the WC/CN, we interchanged cars for storage on those lines. We would get 20 to 40 cars a week for them at one point all going into storage.

on July 17 of 2022, box cars were pulled out of storage on the line from Crivitz to Loomis. so it there has been a train from Loomis to Crivitz. Anything east of Loomis to Marinette, has been at least from 2008.

Very nice video narrative of that line. I did a pictoral narrative of the crossings on this line back in 2019 and posted them in an album on the ELS FB group.

Might as well put up Exempt signage on the crossings...no point having school buses stop and check the tracks.

This is an amazing video, it's always interesting but sad to see old right-of-ways that are no longer in use. I'm surprised they didn't take up a lot of the tracks and ties. It's unfortunate a lot of these railways were abandoned. (Sorry, from Ontario, we call them railways) Thank you so much for sharing this video.

Interesting... I wonder why they left the box cars and if in the past they were going to use them again? Surly they are worth scraping, just roll them into Alter Metal.

I live just a few miles outta crivitz and I live near that particular line. I think its a line that branches off of the one in crivitz. Hey if ya ever wanna get some good railfanin in the main yard is right in town the trains usually go through at around 10:00 am and 12:30. I may be wrong im an amateur railfanner

Doesn't look like it would take much effort to clear the line and put it back into use if there were customers to serve and the bridges were still in good condition.

Ah that makes sense. It's there if they ever decide to reopen it. I ride the haywire in the u.p. trail 41 from shingleton to manistique. So many cool things to see and new history kiosks at what would of been a station.

Just saw your video and I like to see the rails used and shiny. Too bad those are not currently being used. How are they connected to the trackage that Jason videos regularly and is there a chance they might be reactivated again? PS I live in Ga.

Thanks for watching !! This line is connected at Crivitz, where the video started, to the active portion of the railroad. The ELS actually operates Marinette-Menominee as an isolated "island", with CN bringing the cars up. So no traffic was lost by the line being inactive.

ELS cars get to Menominee-Marinette via CN. So this line is redundant.

As someone from Wisconsin, this happens to about 50 percent of railroad lines that are not CN (It's not actually 50 percent but that's just what it feels like)

Question, is the E&LS still switching out the Kimberly-Clark mill in Marinette, & if so, is it just a switching road there, that turns the traffic over to the CN main in town, these days 🤔 !!!??????

  • @killerbee6310

    @killerbee6310

It's complicated. Both ELS and CN once had line hauls into M&M. ELS then negotiated I believe Haulage Rights(?) by CN to move their traffic from Green Bay up to M&M, allowing them to stop operating the branch from Crivitz to M&M. They then crafted a switching agreement, whereby ELS did the switching for both roads. They both had access to the industries, and it was redundant for both to switch the same industries. I am not sure if there is still separate "ELS" and "CN" traffic going into M&M or if has been all converted over to just "CN" with ELS simply collecting a switch charge. Clear as mud?

I swear I had just saw a current video of the E&LS once again using the line to Crivitz, but seeing this video tells me it must be from the past 🤔 ???!!!??? It shows a switcher going down a forest tunnel, where the tracks definitely match the forest tunnel it was traveling thru 😥 !!!

@@user-dt3nt1gg9l you mean the Crivitz to Menominee line? It is impassible and also has a handful of storage cars still sitting on it.
