You hit the nail on the head, Strong! 💯⭐💯
For it to be unplanned, I never realized how poetic this is. In the beginning when she begins to strip, the guy in red picks up her jacket and shoes as if he’s about to return her things. But then stops running towards badu when he notices her walking away without looking back and continuing to strip..maybe symbolizng how the people around us try to bring back the old parts of us that we desperately desire to shed. Badu hesitates to jog and unzips her second layer/jacket before finally committing. She continues her journey as she removes more clothes, receiving more stares and confused looks. She ends in a more populated area but perhaps a healthier internal environment, free and liberated. For that, she is persecuted by those around her as she sheds her last layer. I was about 9 when this video came out and everyone talked about it. I didn’t understand the controversy and now I do. However, it’s art and was way ahead of it’s time
I remember when this first came out. A lot of criticism. But, here it is all these years later and it rings true more than ever. Classic.

Someone commented on this 1 day and said they were there, and sure enough, I saw her. Pretty cool 😎
This video really had me in deep thought. It shows Badu walking at the site of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963. The purpose was to “to awaken interest in a 1950s term called ‘groupthink’ in which a person is afraid to express themselves for fear of being ostracized by the wider public.” The spoken word piece at the end of the vid confirms this argument. "They play it safe, are quick to assassinate what they do not understand. They move in packs, ingesting more and more fear with every act of hate on one another, They feel most comfortable in groups: less guilt to swallow. They are us this is what we have become, afraid to respect the individual. A single person or event or circumstance can move one to change: To love herself. To evolve." I admire how this vid represents artistic, social, and political expression.

Kennedy was assassinated. Her message was about not being afraid to evolve. Hopefully you all get around the ass factor. That was really courageous of her to exhibit such an act of carelessness on her part. It could have went left for her out there in Dallas. She did it for herself and for us. I was a kid listening to this song and now I’m 28 Years Old and this song is on NBA 2K23. 2022 is Wild 🔥
I still cry when I listen to this song ... Such a powerful song and message ...like all her songs ...I've related to her soul and her human experience ...I love how she expresses it ...
This song is so relevant in the times we're in now
So from my perception of when she walks to the camera with a smile at the end is that she walks with a mind that's finally free from society's mental prison to only think a certain way or to live or act a certain way What's y'alls perception of her walking towards the camera with a smile on her face at the end? Please tell

What I got from this was an idea that I think she managed to clarify in the end, and that was that as a society, we tend to suffocate and even kill those that dare to be different.. the ones who actually have the guts to strip themselves of the layers of all the bullshit that we forcibly put on ourselves... these layers that cover up who we truly are, who we are suppose to be (hence the stripping off all that clothing she was wearing). The moment someone comes out of the light and dares to be different, they're shot down by societal oppressors, by them, which inevitably is everyone around us who succumbs to the pressures of society.

The message from this song is so outspoken and went over a lot of people heads for a very long time
Many will miss the message. But everyone will talk.

This song will always have a special place in my heart. I was away from home, without my wife. Moved to a new country and needed to wait 6 months for her VISA. Missed her terribly and just came here when I needed a reminder of why I married her… she always gets the window seat when we fly ❤️
The combination of this filmclip with her lyrism its truly powerful.. the ending sums it all up. Fact.

no she was born in the time she was conceived just she studied and learned her truth and was awakened. unlike most black people we are lost. she found her truth and purpose. doesn't matter when you were born. you have to seek the truth because it was withheld from us. and you will be awaken eyes wide open.

Erykah Badu understood that President Kennedy was a Blue Blood who went against his own for the better treatment of mankind and was executed for it. Some of our artist are more conscious than we give them credit for.

That body won't do you any good if you don't have a proper functioning brain in it.
The amount of courage it takes to lyrically speak your mind at that time was ground breaking; to literally bear your soul is astonishing. She is such a beautiful person and her energy is transformative.
The way the visuals compliment the message in the music is so satisfying… at first listen you wouldn’t think to put the two together but the message is so beautifully subtle in the song that a bold visual statement like this makes so much sense.. ❤ Peace to Ms Badu.

@agonleed3841

BE Fernandez it's all these messages. Not one in particular. Never be afraid to be yourself. When we show ourselves, we become a target by those who hate. We should all love, not hate form it is useless to hate. Sometimes it takes a while to see how the world is holding us back. Hopefully we can realize the truth and enjoy being just us before it's too late. Be who YOU are not what everyone else wants you to be...however funding someone who keeps you in check to not go too far...but also checks you with respect and not disregard who you are or trying to be that is truthful..,,that is the happiest time of life. The main message at the end Let's all stop being fearful of change. Or difference. Of each other
