    Fun fact: the screamer, JT, does that sing-scream/gritty-singing section himself! He’s also a great singer and does a lot more of that style in their self-titled album. He also does a lot of it in the latest ep by his other hand, Texas in July.

    guitarist here, those harmonics in the breakdown sound like natural harmonics to me (pinch harmonics usually have more of a squeal-y/screamy quality to them as opposed to the more hollow-y sound of a natural harmonic if that makes sense)

  • @connorburley2729

    @connorburley2729

    I can say with 100% certainty after seeing them play this live that is natural harmonics 🤌

    Guitarist here - they are definitely natural harmonics. The first harmonic is on the second fret which causes an "unnatural" harmonic while the second harmonic is a "natural" one on the third fret on a higher string.

    I'm glad you mentioned the chorus held notes Jesse does on this one. On a video, he mentioned that he almost thought to make this vocal melody/his voice like another instrument in the mix, instead of his normal soaring notes, and I thought it worked amazingly too.

    I always thought that these types of harsh vocals like Erra or For The Fallen Dreams were done through fry screams - but apparently it is more of a false cord mid/high with your voice shining through. Cheers, Mark, for that. I have no idea how to do fry screams, but got some false cord basics already under my belt.

    Hey, brother! Great video. Jesse Cash is Erra's lead vocalist and is one of the greatest in the genre as far as clean vocals are concerned. I don't know if you're familiar with Ghost Atlas..? He's the lead vocalist for that band as well. I urge you to check them out. I'd be interest to see what a polished singer such as yourself would think about them.

    Those were natural harmonics actually. Erra loves to throw those into riffs and breakdowns and they create a slightly different sort of jarring feel than pinch harmonics. Check out the songs Snowblood and Electric Twilight for more examples of this
