Ernie Chambers, Still Militant - Nebraska Stories

A look back at Ernie Chambers life as a community organizer in Omaha through his long tenure as a senator in the Nebraska Unicameral. During his time in the Legislature, Chambers spoke for an under-represented and discriminated people. In this segment, he talks about efforts to abolish the death penalty and offers a glimpse into the future. Footage from the NET Production "Still Militant After All These Years" combines with a capstone interview with Chambers to explore what he most wants to accomplish post term-limits. Mr. Chambers is one of the most intelligent and courageous individuals in America. Those who hate him do so because he speaks the truth and they can't handle a black man speaking the truth.

@Kevin K nothing this man says makes me feel hatred from him as a white man. I feel he might be skeptical of me and my motivations, quick to assume things about me maybe. What else to expect from a man who was raised by those tortured at the hands of those who look like me? 80% of white people when he was a young man thought MLK was a troublemaker. 80% of white people today think BLM are troublemakers. 80% of white people when his great grandfather was a young man thought the abolitionists and slave rebellions were nothing but trouble. He speaks truth and I feel he would represent me just fine. Supporting men like you would ask me to vote for feels much more like self hatred. Those who seek to control me by making me feel isolated from my fellow countrymen on the basis of race, by making me feel fear of the other are my enemies. Ernie may not be my friend but neither are they. I'd sure as hell be honored to vote for him

If you think Ernie Chambers is a Racist, my hunch is that you consider yourself a strong Republican Christian. If this is the case, my guess is that you have never read the Gospel of John beginning to end. Do it! I double-dog dare you! It might take a couple hours on a weekend -- maybe after Church. Let me know how it turns out ...

Nope, not conservative or Christian and I think he is racist. "Power" is not a word that is something restricted to governmental force. My employer has power over me as a person, and they can USE that power to detrimentally effect my life. If they are black, then they COULD technically do it solely because I was white. If a black person is bigger than me and is able to cause physical harm to me, he has POWER over me and whether or not he uses that power to degrade me for being a certain color decides whether or not he is racist. Now institutional and governmental racism certainly exist in a larger proportion toward black people. I recognize this, but to say that no black person can have power over a white person is just as degrading to the black image as many other things white racists do to the black image. Like right now, he is using his status as a senator and his open access to media to paint an image of the white population by stating that they are the only ones who can be racist, Why fight this fight when you are clearly wrong?

@@iluvrachellef Did you read what he wrote? He os saying and can happen and does happen. Not as large of scale but it can happen. Black people can be and are in power positions where they can be racist and take it out on white people. It is easy to see. They can be a boss, a business owner, ceo, etc. For example look at a mostly black city or county and tell me that racosm against whites can't happen. It can and has. If you don't see it, then your are blind or biased. I was just reading a story about a white teacher who won a case on racism against a racist black principal. It happened and there were witnesses. Racism can come from any race. Plain and simple. It is all bad.
