Thank you everyone for the wonderful comments pop's loved his fans as he said many times he wouldn't have had the career if it wasn't for the fans. I never saw him turn down a photo op an autograph hell he just loved meeting people as he just considered himself a working stiff. I sure do miss him as well but am blessed to be able to see videos like this and hear that voice and his smile it makes me proud and honored to call him Dad.

Your dad was an awesome actor, storyteller and all around nice gentleman. As an Italian-American myself, I am proud that he was able to represent us in Hollywood in the most positive way possible…by being a true gentleman and actor. Coincidently, I was born and raised here in Connecticut not 3 miles from where your dad was born. He is one of our favorite sons!

Cris….I enjoyed you and your Dad on his bus across the Midwest. He never met a stranger. One of the funniest part of that series was you messing with your dad about a certain bug when you guys were standing and talking on some dirt road in Iowa. Great stuff and what a great memory you will always have with him on that trip. May your dad RIP!

I hope you see this comment Cris. I’m a serious film fan and your dad has always been one of my favorite actors. Everytime I see interviews he seemed like such a joyful person. Did he have a particular faith? I’ve seen him talk about his emotional experiences filming Jesus of Nazareth; so I always assumed he was a Christian. Hope to hear back from you. Blessings!

Bless your heart. I understand how you feel. My Daddy was a famous guitarist and musician in the 40s - 1970s in Country music. I lost him to cancer. I cherish the ability to hear his voice again in recordings. Your father was a very sweet genuine, honest man who was a fabulous actor. I count him as one of my favorites.

Yes, Janet, you are SO right!! My favorite part of that movie is the scene with his mother when he tells her, "I'm just a fat, ugly man" and she tells him, "you're not ugly." After he raises his voice to her, he pats her arm as if to say that he's sorry. Apparently that gesture was ad-libbed. I've seen the movie more times than I can count and I cry at the scene every time. That scene was also his audition when he got the part. If there was one actor I wish I could have met, it's him...well, also James Cagney! All of us watching this on youtube have wonderful taste! Hoping you're well, wherever you're located. Best wishes from Canada!

Totally right about marriage. He might be not present to hug, but he will forever live on in all he gave to us all through his films and TV shows. Thank you for every one of them.

What a classy guy! I *love* the fact that he didn't have a favorite role - he liked them all. RIP - you brought a lot of joy to a lot of people, Ernie.

A happy marriage, high energy, loved by the public, respected by his peers, and an ongoing career at age 95. What a full life.
