    I think it's hilarious when the people that give the most ridiculous comments are the ones that have absolutely no videos on KZread or aren't even known... Besides the fact, this is a great video with awesome musicians!

    Hey guys, I am Cubano, I grew up in the Bronx with Puertorriquenos, tuve buenisimos amigos.

    Yes. This is what I love about Latin music. It’s tasteful, it’s thoughtful, it has passion, it has structure and each instrument has its turn to speak while the others give him the space and support him. Space in solos is more powerful than filling up the space. It’s like a wise man that speaks only a few words, everyone listens. No one is interested in someone that talks too much.

    At the end of the day Eric velez is getting paid for his talent and craft , so he must be doing something right . Familia that's the problem with our people we want to limit each other according to our perspectives . Progress beats staying in a box !! Very good video Bro

    Beautiful, artful and informative. There is no room for criticism here. These musicians #1 "swing" hard, they are steeped in tradition. I could only hope to learn what they already know. Thanks Eric!

    I totally dig all the space in between. It doesn't always have to be a chops fest. I usually struggle with my solos because i always try to find a good balance between the chops and just telling a clear tasteful story. This video actually helps me a lot in terms of the phrasing within the solo. Thanks guys!

    Eric encompasses the best of both worlds! Tasty chops, nicely spaced out in contrast a "el guajeo" del piano, and beautiful phasing throughout his execution. But, he also has the skill set to hang with the contemporary, metrayadora (machine gun) style done today! Excellente maestro!

  • @jmps70cu
    @jmps70cu5 жыл бұрын

    Very good video for those who want to learn ... in the video is not discussed if it is Cuba or not ... because common sense a musician will never say that this rhythm is not Cuban .... of course Cuba is the cradle of this rhythm and many more ... we have to thank Cuba for all those rhythms that have brought so much joy to all of us ... it's not about discussing but about enjoying being Puerto Riqueño and we have to recognize what It is known and out of ignorance many argue Viva cuba the cradle of our music and to learn you have to go to Cuba where so many kisses I have had to go .... Puerto Rico should learn from Cuba to make free music education at all levels. .. that is why Cuba believes so much because there is a great art school a musician in Cuba learns in the street but has the privilege of becoming a professional in an art school ... that begins at 9 years of age and ends in the adultes ...... Cuba and Puerto Rico are a bird of two wings ... When I go to Cuba m I feel at home. that is, do not argue and appreciate that we are all brothers.

    i really love the traditional style of soloing because it accents the playing of the other musicians and the dancers can rock to it,rudiments are great but in certain situations and settings,ps the comments william perez made were totally off the wall, those are excellent musicians with velez.

    Eric says "talking with the drum." That used to happen a whole lot with some of the old school drummers - Eladio Perez, Ray Barretto, & Papo Pepin just to name a few. Since Gio introduced the world to rudiments and speed, the solos I see some big name congueros doing today are more technical and have less soul than the simple solo Eric gave in this video. When Gio is soloing in a salsa setting, he rarely uses rudiments. Take a lesson from the greats, sometimes less is truly more. Keep banging!
