I've really enjoyed Erics perspective. There's just something nice and different about the opinions and perspective of someone who while they have a gaming and RPG background, haven't been playing the game since launch. Also, as i'm also finally playing through the campaigns at a similar pace, i feel like we are on the same level. Although we went to scarlet keys after carcosa as both my veteran players hadnt played it yet.

“I thought they might think whats wrong with Eric…”…Thats leaving yourself right open there…especially after the cat snuffling😊 . Thank you both for an interesting video. I enjoy all the Arkham videos and Eric is a very welcome inclusion to the crew.

Just FYI the deck retrospectives and campaign thoughts are both not in the Eric Carcosa playlist, I would really recommend adding them, to me they are part of the journey! I think a lot of people feel the same but might not find them because of youtube algorithms if they aren't in the playlist!

Enjoyable commentary! This was my first full campaign (because I couldn't get all of Dunwich when I got into the game; I think I got into it between TCU and DE), and it led to me loving the game when I saw all it could do. I had the same first person transform at the dinner party on my first playthrough, and the same reaction. So good. I'e replayed it several times on my own and with friends, and I still think it is fun to revisit it and see new players' thoughts about all of the things it brings to the table. Cheers!

I love the game too. I have spent hours. I am so glad this channel exists because I have learned a lot here. I like Carcosa I just struggle with it. I have died before the last scenario 2 times 😂

On my first playthrough I actually had the same issues Eric had with pacing. I agreed that a lot of stuff was out of nowhere. But the meta Hastur stuff was so cool and the scenarios themselves were so fun that it never really bothered me. And today I just know the story so I don't even think about it.

Think we need a The Pit playthrough video if you don't already have one! Great discussion. It's been really interesting seeing Eric's dive into the game, and I especially appreciate their willingness to express their own opinions in this video. Really interesting points I hadn't thought about before - there is definitely something unsettling on the meta-level about the pace of everything. I think it even captures a sort of meta-craziness I've experienced as I hype up this campaign to new players. Like, I'm currently wondering, how do I get my friend to flip over the act in The Last King without them feeling like I'm being weird about it or spoiling it? In a past campaign where my friend was playing Agnes, how do I push them towards heeding the warning without again being weird/spoilery about it? Whenever we get to the asylum, did they notice how you can read the intro text in 2 completely different ways as if we were asylum residents or not??? There's so much I want to introduce to my new players as we go through it, and alongside all the in-game points Eric made along with the stress of making too-hasty story decisions, there's just a bit too much for *both* of us to focus on, which always leaves everything feeling a little unhinged. Who's to say H-man isn't real after all...

I agree with Eric. A scenario in Carcosa before you hunt down Hastur / get hunted down by Hastur would have been amazing.

Finished a Carcosa campaign 8 to 10 weeks ago, and started a new one last week. The one we just started has a new player who has never been through it, and I am so looking forward to how it plays out. I honestly think this is one of my favorite campaigns (of course, I think that about all of them, go figure). I remember the first time we went through the Asylum. Why would we do that bad stuff? Oh, crap, that is why. That scenario has caused us to do anything a location card says, just in case.

I agree with Justin's assessment: we've also grew to love forgotten age more with time, especially it's storytelling. If only there wasn't that Heart of Elders.. Maybe we just have to homerule it somehow. But i guess every campaign has it's own lowpoint: museum, historical society, cemetary hill, etc. Some of them just seem to be lower than the others.

I think the water rising in the black star rise perfectly fit with the location being mount saint Michel where there are days tourists are banned because of high tide and such. I always felt the dissonance in causing mayhem in the asylum as well! Great analysis, can't wait for the TFA Also I think in general Arkham is a tempo based game, and Eric might not love that. Scenarios where you chill for a bit are more exceptions than the rule I think!

Yeah, I'd love a campaign starting in Carcosa and then going into the real world, they could potentially do that if the game goes on long enough I guess or maybe someone will do a custom campaign doing that. Something like 3 or 4 scenarios in Carcosa and then jumping into the real world with some sort of "Hastur has already been summoned from Carcosa when you were attempting to stop that and you've been left, need to find a way out so you can maybe stop him"

Ok, so when I first played the Path to Carcosa, I thought that it was a really good campaign, due to the replayability that it offers, and how, even the same stages, may unfold differently depending on either randomness (e.g Black Stars Rise) or choices that you made (e.g. A Phantom of Truth). But after I replayed it quite a few times I found out that replayability falls rather flat. There are choices that can make the campaign feel overall easier and it kinda hurts to know that, for all the tricks that the developers tried to play to you, there is a well laid path for you to follow. Essentially burn the monsters, earn the Onyx Clasp and go full Conviction. It's much easier than Doubt. (Thematically that fits perfectly though. You are crazy, and Hastur, who rules over madness, just toys with you.)

Yeah Eric is 100% right about that first scenario, it escalates too quickly and really wanted another act before the Big Bagpipe Butthole Baby turns up.
