Eric Moutsos, who supported Tim Ballard, said his views changed after talking to Tim's accusers

RAW INTERVIEW: 2News' Brian Mullahy spoke with Eric Moutsos, the former Salt Lake City Police officer and founder of Utah Business Revival, about his renouncement of Tim Ballard. Moutsos had been publicly supporting the Operation Underground Railroad founder amid multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. Then, he said, he spoke to the women who say Ballard sexually assaulted them during their time volunteering and working for OUR as he led the Utah-based, anti-human trafficking nonprofit.

    Is it your opinion he was kicked out of his own company for misconduct? Or excommunicated from his faith last month for opinions or confessions? Or an opinion that the courts have texts from him sharing inappropriate content to people who are not his wife? Or testimonies from those close to him at fundraising events sharing that he said Elder Ballard was a silent partner and endorses his behavior and activities for raising money? I don’t think anyone knows what a fact is anymore, and that the guy and evangelism is the only litmus test to their surroundings even though anyone with a rudimentary level of education can look at the court documents and testimonies of those close to him to see the overwhelming evidence, pray that Tim can change like all of us need to for the better and get in the path to those healing in its wake…

    Particularly because they had already received complaints, and then they continued to let him be alone with more women instead of protecting them. The "couples ruse" should have been squashed as soon as the first complaint, but they ignored it. They put more women in danger. They should have exposed him the same day he was ousted- right as the movie was coming out. Now they are put in question even more so. It's all about the money for all of them. I did see a guy who was involved with OUR speaking out about Tim, and he said it's unfortunate that OUR will probably go down with Tim because they are actually starting to do good work now. @Encontrarlaverdad Do you realize how much courage it takes for anyone to come forward as a sexual assault victim? Your question is an insult and a slap in the face to SA victims. Let's look at the girls at BYU. Remember that? The ones that got sent packing because by reporting a crime, they too were considered to be in violation of the "honor code" So now, they need to decide, is my education more important? Why would any victim of SA, want to come forward and report something so traumatic when these are the questions they will be asked? Why would any victim want to report a crime like this when the attitude of so many is to blame the victim, or question why were you there, what were you wearing, did you think that was a safe place and so on. I get it, sometimes people lie. But I cannot think of one logical reason why anyone would want to report being assaulted in this way when all you have to do is look around at the attitudes shown towards those that do come forward to know that you will be treated with suspicion and doubt. Perhaps these women didn't feel safe until now. Who knows? But does that really even matter? They came forward and saved whoever would have been next and that could have been many. So in my book they came forward and that is what matters. Sad thing is, I doubt you will even recognize the toxicity of your question. 😢

The manipulation has run very deep, and far too many people have been hurt by him. DO NOT for one second say he is a "good guy" or " hero" if you have nothing to back it. "Based on a true movie" (SOF) doesn't mean Tim has saved children. It was a great movie with a true storyline of trafficking but Tim is not the hero they made him look like. Don't be so quick to give glory to a man who you have no idea who he is!! Let this be a lesson! I'm seeing a lot of emotion statements about people feel about allegations, but I haven't yet seen concrete documented reports or allegations made through proper investigative channels, so I'm asking where to find those. Just because I haven't seen them doesn't mean they don't exist. But I find it suspect that everyone talks about their emotions and no one is saying any like concrete facts. I'm sure it's emotional. But legal matters aren't about emotion or public opinion. If there are criminal allegations, those should be thoroughly investigated and I hope they are so people can either find justice go the full extent of the law or be exhonerated, based on evidence, like legal evidence. Saying something is heartbreaking or abhorrent (even if it is your emotional truth about abuse) isn't the same thing as saying [for fictional example]: "On such-and-such date, at approximately X:YZ time, A Big Bear put his genitals on my leg during a business meeting." That was a fictional example of a legal allegation or report. I have never had a business meeting with a bear of any size. Documented or verifiable evidence would be helpful in recovering truth and I don't know why this is all for public circus rather than saving statements for the courtroom. I just don't get it, I guess.

    They're afraid of people like you who will judge them in the court of public opinion and crucify them with accusations that they're liars or were willing, etc, etc (ironically without any evidence) in defense of their hero.

    There is no "coming back from this" for Tim Ballard. This wasn't a one time misjudgment on his part. This is systemic evil.

    I'm not familiar with Eric, but I DO have to say that any man who is prepared publicly to admit that he made a _serious_ mistake (and one which could easily have caused considerable pain) is worth listening to. Don't see too many politicians doing that - or, more importantly in our faux-democracies - those who repeatedly vote for and support them! I LIKE this man, and admire his moral clear-sightedness.

    I don't know whether the accusations against Tim Ballard are true or false. First of all, no one can just by hearing the stories. Even a seasoned police officer can be deceived. Secondly, I cannot put confidence in serious allegations such as these if the accusers are not willing to be known. The anonymity is a red flag for me. Why are these women afraid at this point when they are no longer employed by Ballard?--Susan Morris

  • @vmskating9028

    @vmskating9028

    They are not anonymous to Tim Ballard. In a statement on The Spear Fund, he basically describes who they are. I don't blame them for being afraid to reveal their names. The cult of Tim Ballard is formidable and I don't doubt if Tim gave the word, these women would be doxed and harassed. Tim Ballard made people sign non disclosure agreements which are hard knowing how to say your truth while not having lawyers come after you. Those agreements last longer than employment. There's also the shame issue - they feel ashamed for their actions, fear of what the church will say if they are members, humiliation in public and with their friends and family, feeling beguiled and manipulated by Tim Ballard. No one wants their dirty laundry for all to hear and for lawyers to pick apart. Also, it's sad it should be this way. Women shouldn't have to feel afraid to say they've been sexually harassed but what nearly always happens is that it gets turned around and the victims get blamed. There are many allegations against Tim Ballard - he even said himself the couple's ruse was true and he even showed that picture with tattoos all over his body - he's trying to do some damage control.

    Until you've been a victim of a "hero" yourself, you can't possibly know the toxic brew of painful debilitating emotions one experiences nor the fear of what will happen if you speak up against someone who is highly respected and lauded as a hero. It angers and saddens me when I hear people talk like you, judging that which they do not know or understand. I can only hope they will feel not only deep shame for their judgments when they stand before God and see the truth but that they will also feel exactly what those victims felt and then have understanding of why they were afraid to come out publically.

    I have always questioned a person who lived in that world, how he couldn't have been affected mentally. Even DEA has to be pulled out of their profession after awhile. It's not something someone can do for a long time without long term effects. If this is true its so sad on so many levels.

So he will continue to abuse women. There will be more victims. Our responsibility is to stop him before he can do even more damage.

    So people who disagree with Moutos's conclusions have cognitive dissonance? His research consists mostly of interviewing women accusers (whom he calls victims), some of whom are apparently still participating in the operations. It seems manipulative that he cherry picks from those who disagree with him the most extreme ones who call him a pedophile, and not any of the logical arguments. For instance, that it was not his business to interview these women, nor was it the place of these women to go to social media figures to poison public opinion, and therefore a jury pool, as they remained anonymous and even before charges were filed. Or that interviewing these women accusers, no matter how convincing, doesn't represent the whole story and that accusations are not facts, even if they are all similar. (Might just mean they are orchestrated). Guilty or innocent, Tim Ballard has no chance of a fair hearing, considering the condition of our jury system and the now poisoned pool of public opinion, thanks at least partially to these social media figures, many of whom seem to be full of themselves and their "courage" at taking on a subject that they should have stayed out of. Naturally, many of them say it is hard for them to do and even feign tears, yet they keep banging the drum against Ballard, and seem to be getting a lot of publcity and ego-enhancing coverage, such as this interview. Moutsos and others rationalize this public social media lynching by saying they are seeking truth and truth matters. Yet, we don't know the truth, just Moutsos' version that he has assimilated from the accusers. There is more info to be considered than what Moutsos is getting from these women. Interesting also to see Moutsos on the same side as Utah's governor. LOL. Innocent until proven guilty seems to have no place in publicizing and commenting on these accusations. (Perhaps I should say commenting, and commenting endlessly.)Whether Ballard is innocent, guilty or somewhere in between, Moutsos and other social media figures are full of themselves when they think it is their place to present accusations and give opinions on something that should be a matter for a Bishop and now a court system, while at the same time stating that his opinins are the "truth" and we must face all face the truth and heal, as if he is doing something altrustic.. Social media has become very dangerous when figures with large platforms take upon themselves this role, regardless of how confident they are in their "rightness". Setting aside the Ballard case, if social media figures can use their influence in this way, we have to consider the destruction that they could do to a innocent person who was made to look guilty (which could apply to apply to Ballard).. What Moutsos and others are doing is so divisive and destructive. This is not the Lord's way and is not righteous, regardless of the claims of truth-seeking and wanting to see accountability. THAT IS FOR THE BISHOP AND THE COURTS, NOT MOUTSOS OR ANYONE ELSE. (.And yes, I have read the documents and I see a lot of accusations, smears and uglines that appeal to emotions and can cause people to get upset, but no evidence or facts.) I will wait to form an opinion when FACTS and EVIDENCE are presented, not emotional accusations. And if the facts indicate guilt of something or of everything accused, I will form an opinion, but I will not participate in publicly denouncing Ballard. I am so disillusioned with the unChristlike behavior of those ready to condemn publicly, in the name of truth or seeking accountability. Based on the comments on here, this seems more like a Moutsos fan club.
