The fall after I played this for my college senior recital, I was fortunate enough to study with Chris Gekker himself. Amazing teacher and true gentleman. Hearing him play just feet from me every week for two years was inspiring to say the least, This piece was written specifically for him by Eric Ewazen. They were both classmates at Eastman.

I was in a brass masterclass with a bunch of orchestra nerds, uni students and a handful of high school trumpeters that went for like 3 hours of haydn, hummel, hindemith, Tomasi, Telemann and what have you. Toward the end a brass band kid came on with a cornet to do this movement and blew me away. Next day I ordered the score and took it to my next lesson.

Bb, but a lot of people play on a C and just transpose.

@@SKBottom I performed at the national trumpet competition(NTC) with my ensemble and received third. With a piece that was written for us, absolutely amazing experience

@@perry3826 outstanding! I won The graduate division of NTC in 1995, but then it was called The Master division. Same age range, 23 to 28. I judged from 1996 to 2004. After becoming a professor, I took my University of Missouri trumpet ensemble in 2003, where we made the finals. One of our tunes was Concert Fanfare by Ewazen. Keep up the great work!

Unfortunately sharp all the way through. Lovely piece.
