Yes he does write us own music. But this is actually 1 of 2 songs he’s ever recorded that he didn’t write or co-write. Jesus Does is the other. Just tells you he’s willing to record someone else’s words when they mean something to him.

@@larrey1328 "Some of it" WAS co-written by Eric. He does have a few he hasn't written but the VAST majority are written by him with some co-writers here and there. You are correct in that its normal for Nashville, but Eric is not so normal for Nashville.

Eric you always stick what is important into your songs. Real life.

Eric is hands down the single greatest artist in country music today. Nobody even comes close. I love the fact that he speaks his mind and without necessarily calling them out he's 100% calling out a lot of current artists who sing about nothing. Their songs have no substance no meaning no nothing. There's just trying to put some cash in your pocket. I love that Eric is pissed about that and he calls them out the way only Eric can. Ladies and gentlemen don't take this man for granted. He's only getting bigger and he will be known as one of the absolute greats when all is said and done. He doesn't get the respect he deserves now but that's because the music industry is a bunch of pansies. They know he's the real deal but he won't do things their way so he doesn't win any awards. They actually think that's going to stop him. But he doesn't do this for the awards. He does it because it was what he was born to do. That is what makes him the greatest. I don't think he gives a flying fuck about the academy or these award shows in general. I feel like he's just singing straight to his fans. Because he knows how much he's appreciated. I love the fact that he refuses to bow down to the big wigs in the music industry and he continues time and time again to do things his way. He's an absolute legend.

Eric sings about things that are not traditional on radio at the moment and he's not rightly recognized by Nashville awarding bodies.

@@timbrock3377 maybe you're just seeing him for the first time and don't know much about him. The shades are mostly because he has an eye condition and the stage lights bother him. He doesn't just wear them to wear them. Actually, a lot of interviews and some videos, he doesn't wear them at all. And yes, maybe he didn't play much on the guitar in this performance but don't kid yourself, he is amazing on guitar too.

Dry eyes and contact lenses don't go well together also his contact lenses started to pop out during his shows and he couldn't see clearly. I think a lot of people take this song the wrong way. To me, all Church is trying to say is to add something to your country songs, more meat and potatoes and less fillers. Give it some substance, some meaning. We hear a lot about trucks and girls but not enough about the real world. Granite us country folks live a simple life as a whole, but we need more variety in todays country music. Give it meaning!

I also see an element in this of if we say (and rightly so) that country is America's music, we need voices from ALL of America. Get out of the cornfield and out of the honky tonk for just a second and think about the issues that normal folks universally face. I feel a unity with a family in Detroit or Baltimore here that you don't get watching the news. Eric Church is a living legend!!! He's not afraid to take on issues head-on and he doesn't give a damn about an 'image'. His song 'Snake" perfectly portrays the political corruption in this country and this song outlines the underlying issues we have in society at the moment. He has always done it his own way and never played by Nashville's rules and is just finally getting the recognition he's deserved from the start. Absolutely the most original artist we're fortunate enough to have in the country genre but his music transcends genres. Apart from the issues this song addresses, I take it as he's calling out other country artists to produce music with more substance, something more than tanlines and tailgates. We need more honesty and less political correctness in this world.

Eric Church is about making it real. Those above him don't like that. Rock on Eric. Solid guy...

This song is aimed right up the a** of the music industry! Love this Church! Let this rip!

This song isn't about "putting some spice" into country music. This is a political message (I believe, and just my interpretation). "Stick that in your country song" meaning make that a priority to you. Your "country song" is what you value and what you believe. The world isn't this all glamor and shiny lights, it's smoke and mirrors. He is saying "open your eyes to these problems" and make them a priority...put them in YOUR country song. Make a difference, be a change in the world or bring it to someone who can change it. Make these issues a priority to YOU. Amazing song none the less, and keep up the amazing work!!!!

That was one of the best concerts I’ve been to (Eagles and Zac Brown Band are right there with you)!!! You are one of the best country singers right now, but that female backup singer is AMAZING and has a lot to do with your success!!! I sure hope she’s paid what she’s worth because she’s fabulous!!!

My family has been a fan of Eric Church since day 1. He sings/writes about the TRUTH of life, not hooking up with girls and driving trucks. This man has been legendary in country music!

Shout out to his incredible backup singer!!!
