I will forever respect Chef Alvin for ultimately being the sole individual who allowed Eric to compete. The incredible story of redemption is what made him so unique. He was definitely an underdog, especially as one of the youngest ever.

I like Eric's whole character arc. He started out overconfident and full of energy, got humbled by Alvin, his confidence getting shot down and becoming very quiet, to slowly gaining his confidence back as his skill improved throughout the season.

Nobody talks about how supportive Pino was to eric. Never disrespected him, always saw how good of a cook eric was. Always congratulated him and supported him. Pino is underrated

"Feels like I've already won" That moment hit me hard. More than the prize, Eric just wanted his parents to realize he could make a living out of his passion, so when he got to see his family supporting him and cheering for him in the finals, he fulfilled his dream.

Eric has an amazing attribute about him that really propelled him to be better than he was before. He has the willingness to LEARN. He doesn’t talk back when criticized and that something even amazing chefs sometimes do and it makes it unpleasant to teach them. Eric cooks with open ears and is confident in his abilities enough to produce amazing food.

“This is unacceptable. I can’t wait to win this.” Pure main character energy right there wtf. Homie was destined to dub this competition

I feel like Kaila and Eric's bickering was truly to lift each other up to become better. I first noticed this when Kaila told him, "Good job Eric," at 19:54 and Eric thanked her.

Eric has been my all time fav MasterChef contestant.His journey, his story, and his progression, not to mention the type of guy he is, and what he has been doing post MasterChef are all inspiring.

To already have a successful career as a a chemical engineer, and still say "There is no plan B, I'm meant to be in the kitchen" shows an inspiring level of conviction. I guess I'm a Masterchef fan now.

I like how Alvin always gives Eric the guidance to improve. Like a teacher and a student vibe from the beginning till the end.

The one aspect about Eric that I loved is that he was humble throughout the entire competition. He knew his weakness and his strength and was humble to point out when he would struggle. Kaila and Marida were so arrogant thinking the whole time that they were better than Eric and they belittle him no matter how good he showed them he was.

In the end, they both failed against Eric. Asian power is really impressive and a force that needs to be dealt with in a serious way, if they wished to bring a Masterchef like Eric down.

My boyfriend recently took me to R&D and I had no idea it was opened by Eric. The food was so amazing there with a unique twist on Asian classics and watching this video really explains all the hard work and progress he has made throughout his journey. If you're ever in Toronto, highly recommend you stop by his restaurant, it is 10/10!

Eric was so young but so humble. He deserved to win. We usually don’t see young adults being humble when they know they are good at something. His parents had to have been proud 🥹

Alvin and Eric’s relationship was truly deep. All through out their season, you really saw a father and son type feeling from them. I don’t think we’re gonna have another chef and home cook love like they did for each other.

Is no one going to talk about how cute his moms reaction to him winning was? She was literally jumping with joy

Eric's dad is so adorable! I love when he tried supporting and calming down Eric. So sweet.

Seeing Eric so all over the place honestly reminds me too much of myself. I don't know if other Asian kids can relate to this but growing up in a household that always expects you to be on top of everything, being this messy and just sweating buckets over every task is a familiar feeling. Honestly not sure if it's the same for Eric but I sometimes overdo it in showing that I'm working just to show that I am because sometimes what just feels like 'slowing down' or 'calming down' looks too much like you're slacking off to your parents and a scolding about 'letting your future go' isn't exactly something you'd want to hear while you're already beating yourself up in your head.

To think this guy's whole opportunity could have gone down the drain in the first episode. Teaches us to be more humble and think twice before being snappy at someone who clearly knows better. However that reply showed him as a whole. He kept slipping and getting back up. What a great trait on a person.

Now I'm at a particularly challenging cookery school and recently being diagnosed with ADHD Eric very very much reminds me of myself. It's often frustrating and I often feel like I'm not good enough to the point where I feel like I should just quit. But I still somehow get my dishes out. And seeing Eric cook is like a reflection of myself, and seeing Eric succeed literally brought tears to my eyes.

What is cookery school like? What do assignments look like, is it like “make this dish in a certain amount of time” or other stuff?

I love the idea of imagining that Eric is the leading character of the Master Chief stories...His face were tense,melo dramatic,serious and fighting spirit with humble expression behind the scene in the kitchen....The antagonist were the ones who push the main character to be the best that he can be and the awards was all worth it...such a very excellent show ... I like Eric accepting the award...I feel teary,teary eyes...tears of joy...dramatic actor is real,and thats eric...

I still think Marida doesn't deserve to be in Top 2 with him. It should be either with Kayla or Tammara vs Eric in the final. Marida kept using Trinidad / Indian cooking every time while Eric always took a risk and always making variation in his dishes by making desserts, noodles, and everything. He's even making 8 donuts while the judges just want 3 donuts in donut challenge. He's very creative even though he was 21 years old at that time.

Eric has proven himself that he is able to make any different types of food or any styles while Marida is struggling in Nanaimo Bar challenge and in Dim Sum challenge (maybe because she got Julie as her teammate)

Alvin was totally Yoda and Master Wu Kwei and Master Splinter and Mr Miyagi rolled into one chef shifu package.

So well deserved him to win! Energetic, passionated, creative, hamble and focused in learning, besides being so cute!

As Eric wins masterchef he slowly walks towards chef Alvin with a grin on his face goes near to his side and whispers "I told you it wasn't burnt", then walks away without looking back leaving Alvin with a shocked expression as he looks back at Eric.

I love how this asian guy has a permanent sad face. Together with the white lady who has a permanent surprised face

an engineer and a master chef at the age of 21 *WOW* when I was in elementary and middle school I used to think being 21 was old but now that I am 20 turning 21 later this year I realize how much dedication, commitment and grit you must have to have to achieve these feats at such a young age! Big ups to Eric's family! we can see how family oriented he is and how he doesn't want to disappoint his family.. they did an outstanding job raising Canada's first masterchef!

Honestly, it just breaks my heart. It's such a toxic family trait, and I don't understand why people just accept it as a part of Asian culture like it isn't a problem. It's good for parents to want the best for their kids, and it's good to push them to achieve, but love for your children ought to be unconditional, and respect/approval shouldn't be a bar set much higher than that. Of course your kids will make decisions you dissaprove of, and make mistakes that don't warrant respect. But if, overall, your kid is honest and has integrity, and is pushing forward to live a life that's meaningful to them, and trying as hard as they can to do well by those they love, that should be good enough to respect them and approve of them, whether that means they have a PhD, or are a single parent working two jobs to put food on the table for their kids. Your child shouldn't have to be a prodigy to deserve your approval. And you should love them regardless even if they're a flat out failure of a person. That ought to be a unique characteristic of the bond between a child and a parent. I grew up with friends that had so many emotional and mental health challenges because nothing they ever did was good enough for their parents, even if it was the fullest realization of the best possible effort they were capable of putting forward. It was horrible. If they would have just shown their kids love, grace, and a little respect for their efforts (even if said efforts weren't for anything all too grand), I know they would have achieved much greater things and would be leading much more fulfilled lives. Instead they're just miserable, all because their parents couldn't recognize their worth where they were at in that moment. Terrible way to parent, and a toxic culture that doesn't deserve to live on through history. I don't care what country it's from or how integral it is to their way of life. If their way of life necessitates such abuse, then their way of life is garbage, and needs to change.

If there was an anime adaptation based on Eric's story with this kind of redemption arc, i would watch it with pure excitement.

Eric went through a legit hero's journey holy moly, his story was like an anime arc lol At the beginning he was one of those rough around the edges, lots of natural talent and potential but clumsy and unrefined, types. He started off the competition amazing, top of the class. Then he started to plummet once he was forced to do things outside his comfort zone and had multiple close shaves with failure. Then recovers strong and comes out on top in the end. What a wild ride

As a Canadian audience member, I've liked Eric (season 1) and David (season 2). The first was in a hero's journey, while the latter sat in the throne and protected himself from being conquered.

"With Asian parents you have three options: Doctor, engineer or get beaten." As an Asian myself, I can relate to that.

Wow, I can’t believe he almost didn’t make the cut to be on the show, they guy gave him a chance to prove himself and he really did.

Eric is a prime example of remaining teachable and how to use constructive criticism effectively. His natural gift, his intelligence and perseverance and his ability to remain teachable is why he won. Well deserved. Chef Alvin is a great teacher. Admirable.

Eric is honestly an inspiration. He was close to going home so many times but yet he managed to win it all.

super proud of eric he made lot’s of mistakes but he was always different and persistent in all his dishes well done eric! 👏

45:50 he's so clearly trained to answer questions like this. Not like simply choosing one would be wrong, but when he said "I want X to go home because they're better", no matter the outcome his statement is like nice

Eric is the reason why I continue to watch this channel even if its just old clips.

“Be humble” “don’t underrate your food brother” that shows he really listened and took in his superiors advice to heart. Great guy

Eric aged like a fine wine through the whole season.I think he kind of lacks in patience and pressure management but he works the best alone. A fine chief I say

Eric really did give his 100%, if he didn't, he was always improving and learning from his mistakes, adapting to his environment. I watch his videos now and he's so different compared to his Day 1 on MasterChef.

Eric's attitude and character improvement throughout the entire show is just *chef's kiss*

We would have never of seen these amazing creation's if Alvin said no. Eric is such a great, amazing, humble, down to earth guy

I thought Eric was definitely going home after talking back to Chef Alvin. “When a chef tells you it’s burnt, it’s burnt”. Love how Chef Alvin comes back down to Eric with an apron on the line, and still gives him a chance. Chef Alvin is my favorite judge. Love how he builds up your confidence in yourself.

Eric and Alvin's relationship in the whole series is my favorite.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw Joe. I thought Canada was free of him.

This is why Eric is my favourite MasterChef. We could all learn something from this very inspirational guy.

I love Eric and his grandpa when he said how proud of him he was. I actually feared up

Eric is the really guy.He has one of the best work ethics and is humble at the same time only at the age of 21 , most people at 21 can't even come close to comparison.

I love how Kaila actually say "for your Grandfather" to Eric. 29:59

Eric was thought of as the weakest link, yet he WON the whole thing! Love it! ♥️ Could do without the drama tho.

The way Alvin told him out in the beginning, that indeed got Eric's attention and he responded very well. That to me is the true definition of commitment.

Eric and Kaila should host a cooking show together. That would be so entertaining to watch.

Eric saying “I can’t wait to win this” after Danny gets eliminated gives me MJ’s, “and I took that personal” energy😅😂

Oh this felt like anime how the mentor is super strict with the main character and calls out his littlest flaws in personality and attitude, thus bringing out the best in him.

Eric went from people calling him the weakest link, to then Eric working hard and learning better than everyone else around him to becoming the Master Chef

The closest he got from elimination was at the very beginning. The only reason Alvin gave him a chance was their similar background story.

Happy that Eric won and also props to Marida. She was my fav in the competition

After watching few episodes of this season, I knew he was going to win. He's so focused, he always improves and excels.
