I too was in attendance at this Congress. As a young Salvationist and Bandsman, I truly felt the Spirit of the Lord and to this day will never forget that feeling. As Janet remarked it felt as though we were Worshipping in Heaven!!!! Awesome Still playing Eric's Music in our Corp Band. What a remarkable Composer and Man!!!! Thanks Geoff for posting!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Salvation Army bandsmen and women are often looked at with some spiritual suspicion. "They only attend for the music." As one comment suggests the music makes the hairs on my neck stand up. When a band or songster brigade finish a piece and the response is silence I know that God has spoken to us through the music. Thank you for posting all this wonderful music.

Love the choral element. It's almost like Mahler for brass band. Magnificent!!

A great concert which included tributes to a number of composers played by each band: Brian Bowen (Manchester Citadel Band) , Norman Bearcroft (Enfield Band), Leslie Condon (Govan Citadel Band), Ray Steadman-Allen (Upper Norwood Band) , Eric Ball (Massed bands), Ray Bowes (ISB); Richard Holz and Herbert Mountain (Massed Bands)

Thank you for this treasure from pen of the likes we shall never see again. This is a wonderfull tribute to the man & his music.I think while there are brass bands his music & the history of a truly religouse man will live forever. The musicians must have realised they were a part of S.A.History

Wow...simply stunning, makes me just speechless! Thank God he created such a great artist like Ball that knew how to compose and perform romantic music. And in particular brass band with choir: honestly, this performance here makes more goose flesh than the finales of the symphonies by both Beethoven and Mahler!

This recording is taken a from an old film. Recording quality is very suspect as it I so old. Please make allowances accordingly on intonation etc. Thanks..

I was part of this Congress Chorus as a teenager I think the evening was called Meet th ed Composers. I still recall the thrill of seeing Eric Ball, the excitement of the music. I remembered telling people that it felt like worshipping in heaven. Watching this still made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. Thank you for reminding me of this once in a lifetime memory.
