    I like the messaging that has though. Most rappers would at least have a few shots of them touching, looking at, or talking to the girls. But Eric B. and Rakim really only ever stare at the camera, stone faced. It's like they're saying "Yeah we got the girls and the money and the clothes. But it's not about that right now. It's about the rhymes and the beats."

    Rakim is the closest thing to a Jazz singer, coexisting both inside and outside the beat. Rakim never allows the beat to cage his bars, nor does he allow his bars to isolate or dominate the beat. He's like a Thelonious Monk Beat Poet. He's the most complete, most complex and most original stylist to bless a mic. Many may folllow, but the Leader leads.

    As a drummer, the late 80s and early 90s in rap/hip-hop has absolutely some of the best drums and bass in any genre. Eric B. and Rakim, Geto Boys, Kool Keith, Ultramagnetic MCs all were doing incredible things and made songs that can hold up decades later.

    Young people, take note to the fact that there's a specific reason why Rakim is widely regarded as one of the greatest MCS of all time.     On the 'Let The Rhythm Hit 'Em' album he mostly rapped over Paul C and Large Professor beats. Didn't make anything worse though. In fact it made him better than on any other of their albums in my opinion.

    it depends what you are looking for.. message probably goes to pac... story telling and influence probably would be nas.. biggie and em have crazy wordplay.. wu-tang is alot about the RZA dropping crazy beats and they just have alot of rappers so you never get bored listening to it.. they are all influenced to some degree by rakim.. honestly i love all the rappers mentioned here.. couldn't tell you which one i think is "best"

    This is a classic, and I think Rakim is probably the greatest MC to ever do it, but this a garbage fucking take. There are some incredibly talented rap artists creating great music these days and comments like yours are just ignorant and out of touch.
