Eri Yoshida is a 28 year old former professional baseball player. Famous for her sidearm knuckleball, the 5'1" female was the first woman to play baseball professionally in both Japan and the US. Drafted at 16, she was the first female to play professional baseball in Japan. Eri Yoshida made it to the hall of fame for the first hit by a woman in pro baseball. I wrote this monologue for my Theatre Studies class at Wellesley College, because Eri's story has always inspired and intrigued me as another young female baseball pitcher.

It is inspiring to see her happy in female league. Love to see her smiling about her victory. Would love equality in sports even more. If physique matters to reduce traumas better divide teams by weight categories like in boxing, not gender. Thanks for highlighting her experience.

Has she pitched anywhere after 2017? Can't find anything post-2017 about her that is related to actual pitching in games.

Great video, but for what its worth, I heard Eri was well liked by her teammates and the fans when she pitched in Arizona and California. Maybe there were some bullies along the way, but it should be said that overall the sport wasn't against her.

Thank you. It’s good to hear that she was well liked amongst teammates on those teams, and I tried to capture how clearly popular she was with the fans. The sad reality though is that she was treated more like a gimmick and had no upward mobility in the sport, being traded from team to team and in some cases being heavily advertised but didn’t get much playing time at all. When Eri played on the women’s team in the end, she got much more playing time and was treated as an equal, not a gimmick.

Oh, this is just a tiresome cisfeminist narrating her perspective into the friggin' Knuckle Princess' life. Okay then. Dat appropriation, Rayne. At least you like baseball, but Eri, while filthy, barely has two pitches. Great effective velo on that knuckle/gas spread, tho'. Can't wait to see what BFR does to her strength, and she's a solid bat with a small zone... but you're not doing any elegies to Jose Altuve's missing .400 seasons if he didn't get called like he has my strike zone.
