Just a suggestion but make your aluminium top hat again but this time drill a 10mm hole through it and leave it as a stepped bush this will centre your threaded bar without all the hassle and fannying around...

@@TooManyLathes you could also use a 10mm long nut (usually used to join threaded bar together end to end) and machine a shoulder into half its length then it will take the place of the nut, washer and spacer.. I have used this method many times to make a quick and dirty drawbar.. Good luck. D.

Make a lead in to the thread. A chamfer before threading is never a bad idea. My OCD kicks in overdrive when I se threading without a chamfer/lead in. Great video, your getting there, cheers.

Thanks for the comment! You certainly make a very good and valid point. This time it worked out anyways as the threads weren't very deep and I used a starter tap with a generous lead in. In the future, I shall indeed take your advice to heart.
