So glad I came across this video. I have a 6 year old horse that has never been handled and I did not want to start her out with the wrong techniques. I now have the beginnings of a good plan. Thank you so much. I will look for more of your horse psychology videos to assist me in our growth and bonding partnership sessions. Mr. Parelli, you are probably the best horseman I have ever come across in my lifetime! Wish there were more like you. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and kindness. The results are clear, distinct, and speak for themselves.

Only beginners would find this helpful. Naturally I do agree with the kindness ethic, but he is chaotic. So in 38 minutes he taught nothing that will be remembered, because he's so disorganized. I've seen roughly the same lack of focus in other videos of him. It's not that I dislike him at all. It's just not the most effective presentation. People come away from it saying they feel good, but asking what are they supposed to do now? It's next to impossible to find good training info that's well presented on KZread, because nobody wants to give that info away for free. Books are a FAR better way to learn, despite the fact they lack visuals you can see. Anyone who thinks they will get enough good info from KZread to train any horse is sadly mistaken. And they are likely to wreck that horse by trying to apply the peicemeal methods they got from KZread to that poor horse, when a thorough consistent approach is what is needed. A complete system. One that will make sense to the horse, not a chaotic soup of a few items from one guy and a few methods from another girl. There are a lot of really good trainers on KZread who post videos with bits and peices of their training methods, but that all still adds up to a great big zero. What you need to do is READ at least 2 or 3 BOOKS by top notch trainers, and only then should you watch videos of the parts you think you need the most (if you can even find them.) This is because you will never get enough of a systematic understanding of any method from the bits and peices on KZread. Even though there are thousands of horse training videos here, they can't be put together to form a valuable program, even if you watch every single video on any one of the channels. I wish that wasn't true, but as I already said, none of the ones who are really good are willing to give their system away for free. I wish so much they were! Not one single trainer on KZread even begins to explain in detail what "Pressure And Release" means, and how it works. Without that understanding you are sunk, because everything the trainers do is based on an understanding of that, and everything the horses do is based on an avoidance of pressure, and a search for release. No matter how much you love your horse and want to be kind, you need to understand the theory behind the words "Pressure and Release". You have to read the books and understand the theory. Before you buy a book make sure you check out the Contents and make sure it has a lengthy section on that. You will probably need to read the descriptions of P+R by several different writers before you are able to really grasp it well, even if you think you've got it after reading just one. It is THE most important part of training horses. I can't stress that enough. You should also check the contents of any books you consider to make sure they spend an AWFUL LOT of time on the basics at the very beginning, before anyone ever sits on the horse once. That applies even if your horse was born on your farm and hand raised. You should read that part of several books by different writers before you ever even lay hands on a foal or see one, because I've seen a zonkie, or a zebra/donkey cross, that was wrecked for good by the time he was 3 days old. And his owner THOUGHT he was an expert trainer who understands P+R! He ended up having to sell the poor little zonkie to some unsuspecting owner at an auction. I pray for that poor little zonkie's sake that the new owner was an expert who could partly undo the damage, but things deeply ingrained in newborns are very hard to change. He might have a very hard life, just because his owner started mishandling him before he was 4 days old. He didn't think what he was doing was wrong, but it was. He had watched a few videos and thought he knew it all. Refused to read a single book. I know the idea of reading a book is so hateful to many today's young people, but if you can't even do that, you have no business anywhere near a horse! You can supplement the serious reading with comedy books, like the Thellwell Ponies books, when you need a break from the serious side, but without reading books you may as well give up now. In fact it would be far better for your horse if you did. Give them to someone who does care enough to read a book. And about what proper training really is, instead of keeping them with an owner who cares more about KZread than they do about the the poor horse. I would avoid books by the famous middle aged American male trainers, almost all of whom are frauds, and go with books by women trainers from anywhere. That is except for Pat Parrelli's exwife Linda, who is an extremely cruel abuser of horses, even blind ones! There are videos here on YT of her abusing horses, and whipping blind horses over and over, yet she claims to be an expert! Imagine what she does when there are not any cameras around! There are many other cruel people too, so be cautious who you "listen" to or believe. There are a ton of frauds on KZread! You can rely on female trainers so much more than men, who are almost all in it for money, fame, or ego. Avoid anyone associated with ANY type of racing or rodeo, with Tennessee Walking Horses in Big Lick, or with any of the European Riding Schools. Steve Smith of the UK is especially good, and anything he writes is good. There are lots of great men, but most of them haven't written books yet. So like I said, look for books with VERY big sections on Pressure And Release, and VERY big sections on the earliest part of ownership and training, with those sections broken down into other sections, explaining in detail exactly what to do from the moment they are born, or from the moment a wild horse comes into your possession. It needs to explain in detail EXACTLY WHY to do each of those things, right up to mounting them the first time, riding them in whatever manner you choose, and far beyond. If the book doesn't show these things in the Table Of Contents, then it's not a good book. The book needs to have a section, the longer the better, about ongoing training, throughout the life of the horse, because if you are not training them to do what you do want and what is good for them, then you are training them to do what you don't want, and what is bad for them. It doesn't end when he afe handed a horse that is "started under saddle" or "broke to ride". FAR FROM IT. The horse will suffer if it is carrying itself wrong or it becomes lame, and if you don't recognize it and take steps to correct it, which normally require "Groundwork", or "Work In Hand", which are other terms for training (as well as veterinary care.) I've rambled on far too long, but I'm not sorry. If 1 person reads and understands this and it helps 1 horse, even though I'll never know, this will have done it's job.

I've own my 18 yr. old (very spooky) Haflinger gelding for little over a year now and have been doing lots of ground work with him and just a couple of rides. The previous owner had him for about 15 years and was not a very knowledgeable horse person , so this horse developed an attitude which was deemed defiant. This horse loves to eat and is in no way starving, but of course prefers eating grass to working (playing). I don't have an area where there is no grass so it's a bit challenging to keep his mind on me. I try not to get after him in a way that will make him resentful. It can be like walking on egg shells sometimes and my patience is really tried. However, the next day or so I do see improvement, so all is not lost.

Pat, thank you very much for putting together this video to share with all horse riders and trainers. I work with Paso Finos mostly but I have a 16 mustang mare that had not been ridden in a long while. There is a culture of using fear pressure in this field. For a fairly new rider that believed that in a horse/human team both the rider and the horse work better when you approach the relationship as partners. I have been interested in using ground work and other ways to help them release their stress. Thanks again, this video will be very helpful!

Go for it! So many of us have learned TONS by shovelling out stalls, carrying water buckets, etc. Often doing it for free, for years! But also look for courses you can take. Really complete programs of instruction, preferably at a college or university, but sometimes they are taught directly from a ranch, training facility, veterinarian or farrier business. Just be SUPER CAREFUL who you give your money to and what you sign. Read EVERY word of ANY contract you consider signing, or have your lawyer read it. And make 100% sure NOT to take the company's own word for whether they are accreditted by a major countrywide equine organization. Check that point out thoroughly! You might need to shovel poop to pay for it, but that's it's best way to get into horse work professionally. Personally I've always loved that kind of work, and I can think of far worse ways to make a living. And talk to everybody you meet. Ask them how and where they got started. They will love to tell you! All the best of luck to you! ❤🐴🐎🐴❤

You're going to get yourself killed or crippled, or get your horse crippled, ot BOTH! Grab a brain! This was a bad presentation which gave the viewers nothing concrete at all. You can't use it for anything. The fans here who are praising it are all sheer beginners, who are unable to recognize what is helpful info or what is garbage. Anybody who can't recognize that this was a waste of time, and that the cheering fans are all too inexperienced to be able to recognize that the video is no good, is obviously also extremely inexperienced. FAR TOO INEXPERIENCED TO TRY TO TRAIN ANY HORSE! You will only end up doing severe damage to the horse and probably to yourself too. The idea of you trying to train a horse scares me, for both them and you! What on earth are you doing with an untrained horse to start with? Either get a real trainer, which will cost a lot, or get a real trainer to help you sell it to a responsible owner, before you and the poor horse both get badly hurt! Because when you do get hurt, which is for sure, sure as hell it will be the poor horse that gets blamed for it, even though it was YOU who caused it to happen! Give it to a trainer or to an equine veterinarian, so they can find it a home with people who have the skills to deal with it. I can't see how you managed to acquire the horse to begin with, but you need to have it seen by an equine vet IMMEDIATELY, and ask them how to find it a good home, with people who know enough about horses to take proper care of it. Horses are not dirt bikes. You can not get one first, and THEN do the many years of learning required to take care of it! In the meantime it will get very sick! Get a vet in there NOW! Then find a proper home for it. You might have to give him to a horse rescue organization. They are experts at adopting horses to good homes. Once you have given him a good home, you can be happy and very proud that you did the right thing! You should also recognize 2 things: #1.) The people in the comments here are all 10 year old girls with no experience. They are lying about how old they are, and lying about owning their own horses. The ones who claim Pat Parrelli's methods saved their horse are also 10 year old girls with no horses who are lying for the same reasons. Do not take anything they say as being based in any knowledge. That includes their opinion that this is helpful information, because it is not! Not to people who really do have horses! #2.) There is very little information on KZread that is of any value at all. The information that is really helpful is NOT given away for free. So you will NOT find much or any useful information here, especially on horses! I know because I have been trying for YEARS to find it, and it is not here, although some

❤❤This guy is Very Good! Wish the old cowboys could learn from him....but I think psychologically cowboys are mentally insecure, and that's why they like to prove their strength through abusing horses. It's a bit perverse the way they deal with animals.

Your comment about round pins and psychology is an indirect dig about Marty Roberts! Marty Roberts has never ruined a horse in his life! He's proved over and over again that "Join Up" is one of the best things that's ever been invented and not only that he learned it from a herd of horses by watching them at night because he was color blind he could see very well! You know it all attitude is pathetic! That horse has already been trained! He already knew what you were going to do! He knew what he was going to do! He knew what was expected of him! You're a fool for casting aspersions on Marty Roberts!

That's what almost all of the middle aged and older American men do! They're not in it for the love of horses, but for money, fame, and ego. I haven't found many of them who are any good at all. Tim Anderson is great, but I can't think of any other American men right now. Steve Smith of the UK is great, and tons of women trainers are!

A few seconds in... and there are already glaring errors: 1. the mispronunciation of the Latin word for 'horse' and 2. an incorrect philological comparison. 0:45 The etymology of the Latin term for 'horse' has nothing to do with the word 'equal'. Equus and Aequus come from different Proto Indo-European roots. 'aequus' would come from *aikʷ-, meaning flat and also present in Baltic languages such as Lithuanian. 'equus' would come from *ek'w-, meaning horse, properly. Hippo comes from the same root. One would expect that someone who lectures on horses would at least get his facts in order before starting such a talk.
