EPOS H6PRO Headset Audio Bundle Review - Includes GSX 300 for $200!

Ғылым және технология

The EPOS H6PRO gaming headset is one of my favorites for the money of all time, and now for an extra $20 (US), EPOS is tossing in a GSX300 DAC to give you more control over your sound. My idea of a "short video" ran a bit long but I discuss the differences of "open vs closed" back versions including pad changes and sound quality. I also discuss the GSX300 DAC and EPOS Gaming Suite software to hopefully help you decide what to get, if any!
You can purchase the H6PRO Audio bundle with GSX 300 DAC Here (Not an affiliate link):
www.eposaudio.com/en/us/gamin...
Or purchase the H6PRO separately if you want different color options (Amazon affiliate):
Open-back variant: amzn.to/3MswQFR
Closed-back variant: amzn.to/3lHqiYl
Or purchase the EPOS GSX300 DAC separately if you already have the H6PRO (Amazon link):

Snow: amzn.to/3sLUaGF
Earpadz by Dekoni for swapping pads out (Not-affiliate):

    First of all, thanks a lot for your super informative reviews! Watched this and your previous review on the H6pro like 10 times to double check if this seemed like the right product for me and a lot of your other ones over the last week(s) since my Arctis pro snapped. (I fixed it meanwhile but it snapped again as anticipated...) I've settled on the H6pro (closed) with the gsx 300 bundle and am suprised how good it sounds. When using the GSX 300 does it keep your bitrate at 16bits / 48000khz max even on stereo? I thought it was supposed to limit it when doing 7.1 but in stereo mode allow you to go up to 24 bit / 96khz? I'm using Windows 11 and am not sure of the technical capabilities on the dac. My motherboard can do 24 bit / 192khz (MSI x570 Tomahawk Wifi which uses realtek's 1200 ALC chip. Would that be better to use when just playing games in stereo mode? I'm quite a noob on the technical side of things, and I'm not sure if using the Dac will make me "lose" sound quality / details that I would otherwise get by just using the motherboard audio when I'm just using the headset for stereo mode. If thats the case it would mean switching to the DAC when I want 7.1 and otherwise use the higher bitrate? Hope you can help me clear some confusion, or if you have tips on how best to set it up (Dolby atmos with high bitrate from motherboard inputs? and just not use the dac? To be fair I have not researched this option extensively yet.) I have no clue if that would be better sound wise or if the other software will limit my bitrate / hz too? Thanks a TON again for your extensive reviews!

  • @GadgetryTech

    @GadgetryTech

    2 жыл бұрын

    If you never heard either pad on the same headset, you'd be completely happy with the sound. Having said that, doing a back and forth test of both pads, I find that the closed-back pads (hybrid leather outer w suede contact) darkened up the sound a little when used on my open backs. It was more comfortable to wear, but the headset loses a little bit of the airiness that makes the open back version sound so special. I think it still outclasses almost every other gaming headset in this price range, but it's just slightly darker sounding. The Earpadz by Dekoni - Jerzee pad though was just right. Still wide/airy soundstage with excellent comfort and cool ear temps. It's a great pad on the open back so I would suggest those if you want to preserve the sound but have a softer feel. Listen to Tin Pan Alley by Stevie Ray Vaughan on them and it will blow you away.

    With the H6PRO you are paying for what is essentially a purely analog headphone. Therefore more of that money is going into the sound quality. I still think the 700 G2 sounds amazing for the money (the bass is sublime), but for more critical listening, the H6PRO is a more accurate and better performing headset. I typically never put my H6PROs away as I use them as a benchmark against all other headphones I own. I think the closed back version more directly compares to the 700 G2 of course, and they (the H6PRO) have a surprising amount of headroom for higher volume and power handling.

    For anyone that is going to buy this to use on a PlayStation console, the PlayStation recognizes the GSX 300 but all you can do is adjust the volume. The special function button doesn’t do anything and it sounds like it’s set to a flat EQ. I updated the firmware to the latest one too and set the DAC on my laptop before trying it on the PS5. Settings aren’t saved when plugged into PS5 but when going back to laptop they are.

    I got the h6pro for 130 and a used gsx300 for 29 bucks.. I used the h6pro for about an hour and they feel good but the sound is just a tad off for me, don't get me wrong they sound good, but the balance is just a touch off. I'm coming from razer black sharks v2 and thought those would be trash compared to the h6pro and other headphones I tried such as the nova 7x, so far the black sharks are on par if not better with the balance of sounds in most games i play. . maybe I'm just use to the razer black sharks sound, but dang they just sound really well balanced and games just sound right. I'm hoping the gsx300 will make the h6pro pop a bit more and having that tuning software might make it happen.. either I'm deaf and dumb or most gaming audio headphones are crap and just footstep blasters.. lol.. if anyone has good recommendations for a headset that has good balanced audio id like to know. When I say balanced I mean all sounds are in thier place, like you can hear all the sounds evenly without certain ones blasting over others. The h6pro issues I'm having are I need to turn up the volume to hear ambient sounds clearly, but when lighting strikes or I fire rounds its crazy loud because the volume is up too much, if that makes sense. I'm obviously no audio person and maybe I'm not understanding a way to balance audio so one sound doesn't wash out others or I need to find a better headset, or just stick with the black sharks. Lol..

    Would this bundle be a better bundle than the fulla paired with h6 pro?

  • @GadgetryTech

    @GadgetryTech

    2 жыл бұрын

    The GSX gives you many more features with things like EQ (headset and mic), side tone, noisegate, and virtualization. The Fulla has more power overall so with the open back version it will help get your more volume, but at the expense of all the features mentioned above. Sonically the Fulla will be slightly more flat, whereas the GSX 300 has a softer, slightly warmer tone to it. So it all comes down to what's more important to you!

If you could only pick one headset plus Dac/amp combo. Which would your top pick be and why? @@CamaGoesGym Penrose without a question, just beware the Penrose are very fragile, keep them in a stand, as for the EPOS H6pro+GSX300 the biggest disappointment of any headset i ever bought, absolutely super overrated for the price and plus they are wired. Just to give you a little perspective of what i think of the H6Pro i currently own the following headsets: Audeze Penrose X, Steelseries Arctis 9x, Razer Kaira Pro, Corsair HS80, JBL Quantum 200, Beyerdynamic DT770 pro and the H6pro+ GSX300. I just bought a cheap JBL Quantum 200 for 40 bucks and a Fiio E10K TC DAC+Amp for 60 bucks that are miles better than the EPOS combo, it's not even close. I am now waiting for the JBL Quantum One to arrive because i was just so impressed by the sound of the Quantum 200. The only thing i really dislike of the JBL headsets is the looks, all plastic and feel like toys made in China but they are definatelly more durable than the Penrose. Invest in a decent DAC/AMP if you already have a gaming headset that is my recommendation even over the Penrose which are very expensive.

    @@JoseAlmeida-zm7tk I also found the H6pro's + GSX 300 combo to be really underwhelming. They just don't sound right, it sounds like you're in a can and EQ doesn't fix it for me. My old Arctis 7 2019 sound better with clearer sound, better sound stage, the bass isn't oppressive like the H6 pro's and you can increase the volume without it getting uncomfortable. Positives with the H6 pro's: they are fairly comfortable with large earcups which don't press on your ears and the microphone is fantastic with EQ. Doesn't make up for the sound so will be returning them, not worth it for 180 € and they're not even wireless.
