Episode 5: How to Carry Your Skis on your Backpack | Salomon Salomon How To

Спорт

Most of the time while in the backcountry, skinning is the preferred mode of travel. But sometimes steep or icy terrain calls for hiking. In these cases, we use our backpacks to carry skis and keep our hands free. Drew Petersen shows us the diagonal and a-frame ski carry techniques.

    These ways are great for carrying my girlfriends and moms skis, but is there a third way to strap my skis on as well?

    Love how trimmed down that Salomon pack is. I bought a pack that I thought would be good for AT but it had too many damn straps and loops. My gear gets hung up on it constantly.

    Just asked my roommate/landlord :). It's from Resonance Printing Solutions here in SLC, UT. Maybe hit them up and see if they can get you dialed with your mountain range of choice!

    Touring without brakes but lightweight cables instead saves weight and makes for a lot cleaner setup for a boot pack. Ditch the brakes

    I was wondering the same thing. It's nice to bring bc xc gear if it's not too steep since the boots are much more comfortable to hike in etc.

    Use the ski strap where the lower backpack strap is and make a few loops with the backpack straps beneath the ski strap. This should hinder them from sliding down.

    Is there a pack that holds boots and skis? I have the Thule 60L pack that does that but it is very large and has too much empty space inside

    Hi! Unfortunately, we don't have such a pack at the moment. Please check the current available models here: www.salomon.com/en-gb/shop-emea/sports/alpine-skiing/bags-and-packs.html 🙂

    Is the same with an airbag backpack ?

  • @powderdropzone

    @powderdropzone

    Generally you can only carry your skis diagonal on a airbag pack. If you carry A-Frame you block the bag or risk damaging/deflating the airbag. If you are not in avalanche terrain and don't have the trigger out you can do whichever you like though. Consult your bag's manual to see what they say about it though.

    Parker's answer is correct here. It depends on what type/brand you have in terms of where on the bag/how the airbag deploys. In general though, if you're boot packing something you should be confident about the stability of the slope (or you're often on a ridge), so having the trigger stowed away to not deploy it on accident is the right call.

    If you don't know how to carry your skis on your lack you don't know enough to be in the back country. Find a mentor, club, guide to gain experience.
