I was kid in the late 80’s/ early 90’s and would go to his skatepark. He’s a true legend. If he showed up to skate everyone would stop to watch him. Rest, brother. Phillip 66 in heaven

Jeff was always cool to us Groms. Treated us like Bro's. My board broke at Clown Ramp one day. He gave me one of his old decks. And a set of wheels. Any time I ride my skateboard I think how freaking cool he really was. RIP.

Just came across this. Watched both episodes and I commend you for it. Never had the chance to meet him but he’s top of my list as a vert skater.

That sucks he whacked himself out 1993 that's about the year when Street skating was starting to Peak and become the only way he invested his whole life into vert skating an overnight it fell out from under him so much so that the poor dude couldn't afford to keep his skatepark open I feel bad for the dude man may he Rest in paradise skateboarding a vert ramp with Jeff Grosso... I guess in the 90s when vert went away it either pushed guys to try and do other things such as Tony Hawk and Steve Caballero.. made others turn to drugs such as Duane Peters and Jeff Grosso and others turn to suicide such as poor Jeff Phillips he was such a badass if only I could skate just a fraction of the ability that he could, I'd be so much better

My first real board was his pro model...on BBC...i guess... memories...memories.."Vert is Dead".article was a sad mistake
