A brilliant conversation, when I watched NH10 I couldn't believe it, it was a different unusual cinema, its still one of my favourites, today I met the face behind it, lol, I couldn't believe such a charming personality was behind all these unusual pieces of art!
I feel overwhelmed that such people are not recognized by all... Movies Mashan,Nh10 are those which I have watched and got an impact on my inner self,,felt like how creative and realistically something can be done that's very rare in bollywood... And of course the songs of Gangs of wasseypur were just mind blowing,I often sing those lines,,,"taar bijali se patle humare piya, teri keh h lunga, yaad teri aayegi mujhko badha satayegi..." So good 🙌✨
In my limited understanding patallok is the best writing with respect to any Indian show ever .

Some of my favorites (movies included) are: Udaan, Masaan, GoW, Tajmahal 1989, Mulk, Mirzapur, Made in Heaven, Ishqiya, Peepli Live, Ship of Theseus, and Lootera. Please fell free to add more!
Two of my favourite Indian screenwriters and you both have a big influence in my writing
I think Sudip and Varun are two gems in Hindi storytelling! Look forward to hearing/seeing more from you two!
Felt connected with the discussion this time. Amazing interview and great initiative.
Why constrain the conversation to singular topic, makes it very limiting . You both are some of best talents Indian screen industry currently have, would love to hear more talk of varied nature. Thanks

Bollywood filmmakers don't know how to make good commercial movie 🤣
Amazing insightful conversation between wise individuals...
Sudip Sharma's response to the question about the influence of cinema (on life) made s-o much sense. The guy who shoots someone after watching a film would shoot *anyway*. Also, definitely, if influence on us by cinema was s-o much, w-h-y hasn't the propaganda films influenced us as much as these.
Loved this. Every part of it.
Wonderful series Varun. Brilliant & deep conversations Would love to hear you having deep conversations with anurag kashyap, kk menon, dibakar Banerjee, Manoj Bajpai, Nawaz, Amit Trivedi, Shreya Khandelwal, Vidya Balan, Neeraj Pandey, Vasan Bala, Anand Gandhi, Sohum Shah, Arshad Warsi & Naseeruddin, Richa Chada
biggest fan of your bro I like your everything writing stand-up 😍😍😍
I love his work!
I wish you would talk about other important aspects of films along with violence.
Will love to watch your work🙏🙏🙏🙏
there was a time when i used to watch violent characters killing someone, and i used to think " why they just ignored the dead character so casually"
He deliveres another masterpiece "Kohrra"❤ ❤ How come one man have "Patal lok" , "Kohrra" ,"Udta Punjab" , "NH10" 😅😅
Very enlightening conversation and so much food for thought BUT i just came here to say you look SAME as amitabh bachchan in khuda gawah. Had been trying to place for days after the pvr re releases!!
Just a suggestion, Varun: you could consider picking specific examples (such as scenes) and then building questions, or nudge your guests to provide more specific examples too! With a little bit of nudging, Sudip could have talked more about how the specific sexual assault scenes in Udta Punjab and Paatal Lok were constructed (with due trigger warning of course). Absolutely loved your interview with Amit Varma on The Seen and the Unseen; please try to aim that as the standard for your interviews! Saying this just because I know because of that podcast episode that your conversations can be a lot more insightful. Much love and appreciation from an aspiring writer and filmmaker.
In early days in US there was a plethora of thrillers and science fiction horrors radio shows, even radio plays, so yeah it is a possibility.
Another good episode! Insightful and refreshing--appreciated Sudip Sharma's introspection and enjoyed both him and Varun sharing from their family's responses. Look forward to more such meaningful conversations.
Arre wah two uncles talking and suddenly comment section is back to bhayaanak respectfulness, no arrogant dismissals, no comments on uncles tone or privilege. Bilkul ghar ke drawing room jaisa with two men talking=instant credibility Must be nice being an uncle. Damn.
Can u add the subtitles.
Is that 'शहर और सिनेमा : व्हाया दिल्ली' on the table?
Hi Varun, just trying to answer your question. There is an other side to not showing violence in art also. If you cannot show violence on screen and if a population cannot watch violence in art then as a community you are destined to face the worst of that violence. I don’t think the discussion should be about whether to portray violence or not but about how to portray violence.
Hey Varun can you please do an episode with ravish kumar.
✌
That line about violence without consequences is cartoon and then comparing it to Tom & Jerry was awesome

- what I have never come across in Indian cinema is non sexual, purely physical violence against women. In reality, I think it is pre dominantly desexualized violence against women that exist. Isn’t that too a kind of fetishization ?
Sir eda e hindi cho sare interviews kreio 😊think u so much
गालियों का प्रयोग कुछ विशेष प्रभाव लाने के लिए ही हो , तब यह काफी बेकार लगती है वाली बात काफी सराहनीय !
Talk about rajamouli RRR is global phenomenon
Aaww! Aapki family ko yeh baar baar sunna chaiye ... Gangsterism wala dialogue bhool jayenge.
Kya Varun Saab..aap Hindi film likhte ho, gaane Hindi me likhte ho.. then why you guys are using English as primary language of conversation..Hindi me bat karo bhai..
Varun gaining bit of a face fat :P

Moral policing really?? People involved in sexual relationship might have different take on this just for lust as love doesnt need pleasure. I didnt watched masaan but grabbed a pov from the conversation that they are trying to subtle 2:33 sexual relation valid. This will ruin marriage structure in india for sure why humans are this much stupid that they even can not learn something after seeing situation in western countries. Put your hand in heart and ask yourself do you want someone who was involved in a deep sexual relationship with someone or you want your sister to be like this to get fuc.. With any lustfilled guy???? Moral policing is important you can call me conservative but this is really bad for us and for upcoming generations.
