Because the definition of friend got so blurred due to social media, the beauty of Christ's saying in John 15:13 “There is no greater love than this: that a person would lay down his life for the sake of his friends.” became so hard to grasp! What a beautiful episode, thank you and God bless you!

When I converted 17 years ago several people left my life. That wasn't easy at all but the people who've been brought into my life are amazing! Great topic.

This topic came up in my prayer group this weekend. The Bible verse that informed my position is Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” A more equally yoked friendship between two people, steeped in a desire to grow in holiness and sanctification, relentlessly pursing Christ, will be edifying and fruitful. Psalm 90:12 reminds us that our days are numbered. May this fact hasten our desire to place our undivided attention on growing closer to Christ, and directing our activities and relationships in such a way as to support this effort.

I know this is an old episode but I want to write it out for my own benefit and also for whoever might be willing to give my questions a shot. I’m going through a life transition right now preceded by a period of isolation because of some life setbacks and depression. In that time I stayed away from friends and it gave me a lot of clarity. As I’m beginning to go out more again, I wanna open myself up again. But I run in to old friends, really serious Catholics, and I find myself reeling away. I’m not sure if it’s because of valid past hurts or because I’m just being too picky. Anyway, I will pray about it but what would be a good way of thinking about choosing friends for someone still rebuilding their life?
