Epipremnim Pinnatum Variegata care and propagation

The variegated epipremnum pinnatum is a very underrated big-leafed variegated plant that no one talks about. The adult form of this plant will develop huge fenestrations (Split leaves) if allowed to climb up a pole or wall. Despite its beauty, I have never seen the adult form of this plant in person. Perhaps this is because they are thought to be a more “common” plant. Well I hope we can fix that because this plant is so stunning (and fast growing). In this video I cover full plant care including watering and lighting, and show you how I propagate it in various mediums (Soil, sphagnum moss, water). I even show you a 3 weeks update (get ready for some serious root porn)!

    Hey Sean, I got a cutting last week with about 7 leaves on a vine and super long water roots. The leaves are still tiny, perhaps the length of my index finger. So still a very young plant with a skinny vine. I pot it in Leca and a weak nutrient solution-and the leaves started turning yellow within 3 days. I took it out of the Leca today and put it in water. I‘d really love to grow it in Leca. Think this will be possible? Maybe I pointed it too fast. Straight out of box. Right now I’m hoping that the last two green leaves will hold up, and I don’t end up with wet sticks. :(

    When they have lives in water for that long it is difficult to move them to soil. This is why I never keep my propagation in water for more than 2 months max. I would cut them as single leaf cuttings and propagate them. Starting with new plants seem to be the only way out of this.

    Hi Sean. I couldn't find a video about Epipremnum pinnatum Dragon's Tail. I found one at a big box store and like the dark green foliage and how quickly it develops fenestrations. Have you grown it or is it too common there? I live in Canada and it isn't commonly seen in big box stores. I bought two and one had a long stem growing straight out to the side. I channeled my inner Sean and cut it back and have 7 node cuttings for water propagation. How many roots do you recommend before potting into soil? Thanks. Love the plant tour videos as well.

    If its not climbing up something now, its leaf will diminish in size. And its hard to train a mature plant up a pole so I would recommend cutting it and propagating. Keep in mind the top cutting is one that will produce larger leaves faster.

    Hi Sean, I know this video is very old, but just hoping you'd see my comment anyway and help me out. About a month ago, I chopped off my Epipremnum Pinnatum variegated (although mine is just a small plant, unlike yours) and propagated the chopped off part in water. It seems to be doing well. However, the mother plan did not fare very well at all. The leaves become so droopy suddenly. I thought it was thirsty but nothing changes when I water them. I haven't checked the root yet but other than the droopy leaves, there's no browning on the edges or signs of pests whatsoever. I plant it in terracota pot, by the way. Previously it was in a plastic pot. Any advice is appreciated.

  • @onlyplants

    @onlyplants

    Жыл бұрын

    It might have had root rot, causing it to lose lots of roots and unable to take in enough water to feed the leaves. Its worth it to unpot and check. When you propagate a few leaves off, they actually require far less water than before - hence its often time rotted after propagation.
