Floor as a Spinto, sings the Alto, and Simone the Mezzo. And this in a middle of a Metalconcert. Only WOW.

This Live version always astounds me... To hear this aria in the middle of a Metal Concert, and to see this screaming Metal crowd in a complete silence... It is really funny, that Metal lovers can appreciate classical music more, than vice versa . I am not kidding, I have seen grown Metalheads cry (present company included) over this song and presence of those two goddesses!!! This IS EPIC !!!! NWSU/Epican/FloorFan 🤘😍🤘.

The song goes back to a 13th century hymn. The music is by Pergolesi in the 18th century. This is the middle of a metal concert, the Retrospect 10th anniversary show.. Thousands of metalheads, and they loved it.

Simone and Floor sounding beautiful together. Simone in her normal soprano range and Floor singing alto to harmonise. Nice to see her thank the conductor at the end.

If you know Spanish pronunciation, you'll usually be close using that on Latin. Stabat Mater Dolorosa, word by word, means "Stands [the] Mother Sorrowful." It's an emotional Catholic hymn referring to Mary at the foot of the cross of her son. You don't have to believe or speak Latin to feel something, though.

The greatest Nightwish smile is back with a Floor Jansen and Simone smile. Thats moore than ok.😉❤️

Yep. No egos here, just solid music. And I love how Floor thanks the orchestra and conductor. Pure class.

I have seen a lot of singers, mainstream classical and in the opera area, there are very talented ladies, but what impresses me about floor is that she adapts so well to anything and has a lot of storytelling power in her message. voice colors and styles to do it. I know very few singers that diverse, if we talk about talent she is high placed, and if we talk about only mainstream and metal scene she could be at the top. Plus she seems humble and nice person. In the end music is subjective you can't never say what is best buts for me that talent and skill is undeniable.She sits at a table where few females in history sit.

symphonic metal actually got me into classical music, which is something I never thought I would ever enjoy. Turns out it's not that different from metal in terms of structure in some pieces and the finesse of both styles composition. awesome video

I remember that After Forever and ReVamp did O Mio Bambino during their concert during their concert. To me personally Epica is a continuation from After Forever. I like them both just like I like Nightwish. I was lucky to see them both live again. So happy that they are different/unique and equally good. Also happy that Floor and Simone are friends too. Sometimes I miss their goofy little KZread promotions together. Life goes on. Both of them don't live in The Netherlands anymore. One in Sweden and one in Germany. "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" = "Stood the Mother, full of grief.........." the hymn of the Virgin Mary's sadness at Jesus's crucifixion......Pergolesi knew he was dying when he composed this piece at age 26.....very well known in the classical repetoire, originally for 1 soprano, 1 alto and a 4 piece chamber accompaniment........

Hi Jynger I'm a big fan of Classical and Metal music. This cover of Giovanini Battista Pergolesi's sacred music from the Stabat Mata. Is one of the most popular pieces. Stabat Mata Dolorosa (The Sorrowful Mother was Standing) is the 1st movement of a 12 movement composition, Which is normally played around Easter time. Pergolesi composed this and other pieces, in the final weeks of his life, he had Tuberculosis. To me you can almost feel the pain and suffering he and what Mary must have felt as she stood watching Jesus being crucified. The unselfish Talent of the man. It was said that he died within 24 hours of completing the works. Great video reaction.

I agree! The alto part sung here by Angelika Hircsu, a classical trained vocalist and at that time a member of the choir that accompanied Epica. Best version definitely! Unfortunately The Classical Connspiracy was not filmed, it was only released as audio.

I love Floor and she is amazing across a bunch of genres but have to agree with you. Agnes as a true alto has a fuller voice in this range. Always wondered why they chose to include a classical piece in their 10th anniversary show. Now I know. Thanks so much for sharing. Is the video from a DVD release?

@@jaapblaauw3735 Thanks for the info. The wiki entry for the album only lists Amanda Somerville and Agnes Liptak as guest vocalists. I knew that it wasn't Amanda so I assumed it was Agnes. Angelika is listed in the Wiki as a member of the Miskolic choir so my bad for not catching that it was her and not Agnes singing with Simone.

Very operatic, not what I'd call ROCK but two very compatible voices. Different for sure. I did manage to listen to it all. Cheers from OZ
