This is more of a "problem" with the arrangement than with the mix. All the bass notes accompany the guitar, that is, the role of the bass is to add weight to the music along with the guitar, instead of changing its own phrases. I'm not a big fan of that, but that's the formula for 95% of European metal bands.

Well, not unique. Maybe in the genre. But is the typical progressive metal tone (Dingwall + Darkglass). It suits the band perfectly though!

@@DEM94 It's anything but unique. But it fits. Just a bit of a boring arrangement for us bass fans, but it fits the song. Most other Epica songs have a more varied and interesting bass section, but if nothing else Rob shows he can hit all the notes right on time for the most part, which counts enough in many songs.

Im not so bass expert, but I like how many band (and I'm sorry if those are not the same genre) like Oasis, Muse and even some tracks of Queen, the bass makes a HUGE presence on many of their songs. I don't know why on metal music this doesn't happend. The bass should be respected on any genre....

They are called "fanned frets" and it allows to have different scale lengths in the same instrument. That way you can have clear lows and powerful treble.

@@Arcsace Not necessarily, I think I know why you think you don't hear it. Not sure of the exact terms but I think it has a lot of treble and some distorsion, and that's why you think you only hear the guitars, because the way it's set up it has that extra punch and kinda sounds like a guitar. But I guarantee you there's no way you don't hear it, because of the explanation above, and even my shitty phone with shitty audio reproduces it right.

I don't quite agree with everything, but I do agree that the bass line should have some kind of variation from the guitar. There are a lot of open string notes that could be filled with riffs here and there. Maybe he does it live, idk but there should be something more.

David504 is a youtube character. Talking of his actitudes and comments, he not real. I truly like Dave's videos, I laugh and think it is fun content (specialty if you now about music). But me, as a pro musician I know he is just trolling, and if he actually acts "like that" on real life (wish I not think that's the case), he is a joke and he should not be taken seriously as a "true pro musician". Just relax man! enjoy all the possibilities of music, they exist for a reason.
