when i was young we lived there (1958 -61) the Monterey airport was a naval base where my dad was stationed, he used to go out with his biddies and bring home a big sack of red snapper. all fish are good, good catch you had

Definitely not as many fish as there was back then but every once in a while you might get lucky!

nice slabs! jeeze those are nice hali. that would be a cool achievement to get 100 inches of halibut. i was sweating it out thinking it could be when the rod went down, nothing you can do when they pop off... great job on the solo mission!

I've caught halibut up to 435 lbs here in Alaska. The tiny ones are fiddlers and the one you caught is a chicken. In order to keep then from flopping around we have a piece of 1/4" polypropylene rope through the gills and the other end around the tail and draw the rope until its in a circle. All they can do is quiver now.

The reports coming in mention some absolute monster halibut off the Alameda rock wall area. Plus some bonus White seabass in the mix. However a #17 to 18lb and a 20lb halibut fill the freezer nicely , well done

Reading your comment what kind of fishing do you do in the sharks follow your stringer very interesting because I’m always bleeding my fish as soon as I can and getting them out of the water cause sea lions One day they still probably 60 pounds of halibut for me and my buddies
