When I taught MBA students (stats or finance), I would send out what I called "the infinited problem set" where in Excel I had the problem details and solutions randomly generated using Excel's random number generator. This meant that the students had as much or a little practise as they wanted. It also meant that there were no complaints about not having enough or the right kind of practise.

@@bigtaskat-hand4742 There are two types of programs: professional and academic. In a professional program the students are already in their career. I have had someone with a degree in vocal performance sitting next to someone with a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering. The mathematical prerequisites for a professional program are not strong, but it will help if you are comfortable with elementary algebra (solving equations and driving the equation of lines) with exposure to elementary statistics. The more comfortable with statistics the better. In an academic program you might need calculus.

I guess only business students can endure that. I can't handle too many problems of the same kind. I kinda start doing them like a machine while my brain turns off. In a week, I forget it all.

My story with Chris McMullen books so far. I started with the Algebra essentials which was fantastic. I then moved on to the trig book. I quit on one of the chapters at the end because Chris simplified a nested square root in a way I couldn't understand. After hours looking online, I discovered he did this by 'completing the square' which is complicated for nested squared roots. I then moved on to the essential calculus book. Chris introduces us to numbers to the power of 3 and higher, something not covered in algebra essentials. I was quite lost so I decided I needed to improve my algebra. I bought intermediate alegbra by Chris which is great. Two chapeters in and I'm much more comfortable with unkowns to the power of 3 and higher, and how to work with them. I returned to essential calculus and was able to complete chapter 1. However, although I learned the process to solve, I didn’t actual know what I was achieving or why. So I bought calculus made easy by silvanus as this channel also recommended it. That book so far has really helped me understand what you're actually doing in calculus. In summary, Chris's books are great, but you may need some additional resources. To be fair to Chris, he does say at the start of each book that they're only meant to be supplementary to other books but I've found them way more enjoyable than standard math text books. Big thanks to this channel for inspiring my math journey. Big confidence boost to hear I almost completed the whole trig book which is considered difficult. Especially for me who dropped out of higher maths in school and took ordinary/pass math.

I went to school for performance in classical guitar and it was actually music theory that helped me improve in Math. As a kid I always wondered, "why/how," to everything. Well, when it comes to why the Greeks chose equal temperament I was told I would have to go back and ask them about their Math. Hahaha. But, what that did was let me know: these are the rules to go off of. It always came down to practice time vs ALL other course study time and guitar always won. Thank you for these videos. They're perfect for self studying and I love your enthusiasm. Excited to go back and start learning again.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

I worked through the Prealgebra book by Chris McMullen and I agree that his workbooks are excellent. I only got 79 percent of the problems right😄😄. But I worked through another prealgebra junior high textbook and got 93 percent correct. That is not a criticism on the McMullen book. I intend to get his other books especially his Calculus workbook. I mean, I wished I had the McMullen books when I was in junior high or high school because I would have been at least a B student.

Aye thanks brother! I got Everything You Need to Ace Prealgebra and Algebra 1 recently and I'm working through the early chapters right now. I also got Everything You Need to Ace Geometry for the next round! One question though. Workman's geometry book is enough to understand geometry well enough to help in higher classes right? Thanks for showcasing more workbooks, I just bought the prealgebra essentials book to supplement it with some extra problems because some things require more practice than others. Happy to see some higher level workbooks too. The rest of these look like awesome supplements to textbook. Really happy I watched this today, thank you for helping us, and giving me the opportunity to love math.

Bought the Geometry in April, just finished it last week, highly recommended for both directness, simplicity, and covering the bases. In a few places there are all the formulae you need for that concept on 1-2 pages, making study/memorization easier. About this video: 1. Yes, having all the steps in the answer section imo is CRUCIAL to understanding what you need to both work AND remember the concepts/problems. Not sure why any book would leave that out. 2. I wish they would change that rule, if it is a rule, about not teaching geometry in college. I missed it somehow and didn't know why I couldn't figure out key points in later classes. About 40% of the Geometry book in this video, I've never seen before in my life, e.g., prisms, kites, rhombus, surface area of a sphere, I missed a lot by not having that already.

Hi, i recently discovered the OpenStax math books, they are a series of open source math books that are also approved by the the American Mathematical Association. So i was wondering what do you think about these books? I apologize if you have already expressed your opinion in some other video, i searched "The Math Sorcerer OpenStax" on KZread with no results, so i assumed you haven't talked about them. I own a Kindle Scribe (e-ink, e-note, e-reader device) so the free PDF math books were really convenient for me, these books finally got me into math after a long time of me sporadically getting inspired by your videos but at the same time never crossing the barrier of getting some math books to actually start.

OK, trying this one more time. There is a series of books that are in a similar vein as this, that the Math Sorcerer and viewers of this channel might find of interest. They remind me a little bit of the McMullen books, but with a slightly different focus. They are all very introductory and "beginner friendly" thought. They are by a gentleman named Steve Warner, and the titles include ones like "Pure Mathematics for Beginners", "Pure Mathematics for Pre-Beginners", "Set Theory for Beginners", "Abstract Analysis for Beginners", "Real Analysis for Beginners", etc. He also has a number of titles on test prep, for things like the ACT, SAT, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, etc. I would include links, but I suspect that doing that might cause some automated KZread anti-spam feature to kick in and delete this comment. But they're easy to find on Amazon or wherever fine books are sold. 🙂
