I may get flak for this, but goodness some of the comments here are just sooo.blegh. Why is everyone having a go at the crowd? You guys act like the world bows to the Haka and treats it with some reverence...they do not. Saffers sing Ole as loud as they can to drown out the Haka, the Poms sing Swing Low Sweet Chariot, Irish sing Fields of Athenry. Even the Scots chant SCOOOTLAND during Hakas. ...Do you guys watch rugby? Yes it's a nice tradition, but buddy, it's a war c ry, and you're away from home, expect to get some response from the home supporters.

Its fine mate, I'm a Kiwi and the Haka is both showing our respect and offering of a challenge. It's a war dance. Its only right that you answer it and your crowd backed up your team which is the right thing to do.

And also it psych's them up and intimidates the other team. It's a war dance designed to intimidate the other side. @@jennaschmidt3332 I think we're slowly waking up when it comes to different cultures. The haka being a perfect example. When i first saw the haka i was confused like anybody else who's never seen it before. The crazy eyes, the mean faces, the ferocious movements, all while not missing a beat. However the more i understood it the more I felt connected to it as a man.(while not even having maori blood) Just like the guy in the beats haka documentary said. You feel connected to it regardless of race.(I'm paraphrasing) That narrowmindedness is still a big problem, but the information age allows us to see what we couldn't before. The smart people will take advantage of this while the others remain blissfully ignorant.

I'm not surprised. As a European child immigrant to Australia back in the 70's. I was picked for a local netball team. I don't know why since I was short & scrawny. But anyway. We were facing off with a Maori team. And the Maori girls started doing the Haka - I have never been so facking scared in my entire farcking life! And as I bolted, raucous laughter burst forth from the players, the coaches, the referee & the audience. If done right - this shite really works. It's absolutely terrifying! Since then, I've made countless Maori friends. They have the best sense of humour on the planet. Hearts of gold. Brilliant mates. Loyal to the last breath. But.
