    That's great, man..nothing too overboard for a couple dogs in need of some shelter and shade. Ever have a problem with them hopping on top the roof and jumping the fence? That would be my luck. haha

    You did a great job. I love how your dog wanted to help you build at 0:46 & 12:20. 😂 I can tell they love the house. FYI, I couldn't hear you that good over the music. But hey, we're all learning this thing called editing. LOL. I think your choice of music matched the job. Again, you did great!

    Thank you!! and thank you so much for the info on the volume of music when I listened to it I thought I ducked the audio enough. This was my first bigger instructional video so I really appreciate the feedback and next time will make it quieter for sure. Do you have a specific difference in volume you use to make sure the difference is enough? I'm editing in premier pro if that matters. Again thank you so much!!

    Hey there. I just saw this video and absolutely LOVE this dog house build! Is there any way you could provide a list of items and tools needed to make this? When i say I AM NOT a carpentar i want to say I AM NOT 😂 however im really good with following directions and measurements and i would like to prove that ANYONE can make a dog house! Thank you for such a great video! Love the doggie house.

    Thank you!! Unfortunately we do not have all the measurements anywhere. Wish we would have kept some. But honestly a lot of this house was deciding in the moment what to do and the size. Didn't really fully draw it out.

    Hi there. Great video and I love the design. Just one comment, there were sometimes in the video that I couldn't hear properly what you were saying, so you might want to work on the sound a little bit. But overall, a genuinely nice video. Love the detail and thought you put into this build

    Out of curiosity of a former carpenter, how come there weren't many more support boards under the floor or insulation installed to keep the heat in the floors? I understand cost might've been an issue, but I'm concerned about potential sagging later on for the floors. I'm also thinking about taking your idea and another dog house I saw and putting them together and was just wanting to know the thought process of your building so I could do it justice. It looks awesome though and the dogs looked pretty happy with it.

  • @annasunn8900

    @annasunn8900

    Another thing, I get that it's for dogs, but to spend money to put in a heated floor seems wasted if there's no insulation to keep that heat in. Again not criticism, just something that I was thinking about while watching and wanted to know what you were thinking when building. I like hearing people's thought processes on stuff like this. You know trading ideas and whatnot.

  • @redwoodchronicles

    Probably could have thrown one more 2x6 in there as a support. But its honestly super stable. I was able to stand and jump on it without much flex so i figured it’d be solid enough for the pups. Guess we’ll see how time treats it in the long run but I think it’ll hold up. Definitely thought about insulation. Still might add it to the walls at some point. Reason I made the decision to not do it for now is partially because it really doesn’t get bellow 20 degrees where we live and even that is rare. The pups are also never spending the night or anything in there its just for while we are at work so its more of a rain shelter than anything else. Second and my bigger concern with the insulation was River the Collie chews everything. Shes the whole reason we had to start keeping the pups outside when we are gone for more than an hour or two. So i was concerned that she would wind up chewing a hole in the wall and eating the insulation. We have a heater in there that has no issue holding the temp at 55 degrees without the insulation. And have also added a plastic flap to the door to help keep the heat in. Gonna see what the electric bill looks like with running that heater and that will be the decision maker to adding the insulation or not.

    The one thing i did cheep out on that i wish i wouldn’t have is the roof. I really should have put a water proofing layer between the shingles and the plywood. But once it gets messed up ill just pull the whole roof off and redo it right. But id imagine itll last at least a few years the way it is.

  • @redwoodchronicles

    @redwoodchronicles

    100% totally agree. I think i may have mentioned a heated floor in the video but we actually would up going with one of the hound heaters you mount on the wall. And I’m thinking for floor insulation the rubber mats will be good enough. But the whole insulation thing is still very much on our radar. Just going to see how much it costs to run the heater without it first cause the chewing concern. When I was installing the heater i was able to heat it to 70 degrees in there in like 15 minutes and it held pretty well so time will tell. We only run it to 50 cause our pups especially River like the cold. Shes a border collie pyrenees and we regularly look at the camera that watches their whole yard and she will choose to lay outside on her cot in the rain instead of staying in the dog house with Kona.

    @@redwoodchronicles that's understandable and I get it with the chewing issues. I'll occasionally find random things chewed. I'm working on it with my dog and hopefully your house will finally get a reprieve with this dog house. Again it looks great. Keep up the good work and don't let the others get you down.

    How much did it cost to roughly do this? Our dog is about to have puppies, we live in the desert but unable to leave them in the house especially with the mom pees and everything all over the place so it’s probably best I make this big insulated dog house for them and maybe tall enough so that we can fit inside and clean up when needed

    I hope u do not live in an area that have cold winters with temps under the 20F...even when dogs or cats are left outside they can suffer from frostbite or be killed by the low temps... I invite and challenge anyone that allow their pets to be outside in freezing temps to have a thick jacket, warm sweatpants, no socks, no hat and no heat to sleep in the same area that the dogs sleep during those low temps...u will not last 2 hours...so if you can't why anyone can expect our loyal companions to suffer cold temps??? or temps of 80 and up degrees and no AC??? Can u do that even in summer...a sweeter, socks, long pants, long sleeve and be outside all day and all night at temps that are 80 degrees F and up??? How u treat your animals says who u really are.... I have to say that the house is amazing...needs ac and heater for sure :)

    We live on the north coast of california. Temperatures are pretty mild in both directions. The dog house does have a heater that keeps the temperature at no less than 55. And they dont spend the night or anything in the dog house. They spend the night inside the house normally on or in our bed with us. Its just for when we aren’t home because river the collie is still young and chewed about everything there was to chew inside our house. And we wanted something that they could escape the rain. Ironically it will be raining and half the time we check the cameras river is outside happy as can be laying in the rain. I can assure you you would have a difficult time finding animals that are more spoiled than ours. I do find it interesting how someone spends 4 days and a stupid amount of money building a pretty cool dog house and the well being of the animals comes into question. Guess thats just the internet these days everyone wants to find the negative.

    We did put a heater in as well as flaps on the doors, and separate wifi thermostat. Waiting to watch our electric bill for a few months to see how much the heater costs to run without insulation. We have solar so if its not a lot we probably wont deal with the insulation. We are worried about River chewing through the wood we cover the insulation with and eating it. We also live on the coast of Northern California where the temps are pretty mild. They would be 100% fine just chilling outside while were not home. Pretty much a glorified rain structure.
