Unfortunately most have already forgotten. As teachers fear what will happen in the fall and as cases rise... we are being told that if we are scared to go back, we don't care about our kids. And many parents seem to think that we did nothing during remote learning. Why are people so quick to turn against teachers?

Thank you. I'll rewatch this next year while getting a 20% pay cut and larger classes than before due to hiring freezes. The best part is when we get the "you should be grateful to have a job" speech. I'll still have to buy school supplies and work un-paid overtime because memories are short where we are concerned.

Exactly!! Or when you're made to feel bad for not wanting to teach an after school class. No, I don't want an extra hour with kids. I barely have a voice, and I don't want to get home later than necessary.

Ah... that comment. I don't know where you live, but I think that one is universal. Just try not to pull your hair out or focus too much on the chastisements from those who previously ranted about their jobs not so long ago to stay sane.

Teacher here. I finally realized this year, amongst all the shit, that there was no point in working all the extra hours. WE WILL NEVER BE PAID FOR IT IF WE CONTINUE TO DO IT FOR FREE👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I still work more hours then I’m paid for but for the first time I also drew some boundaries and it’s been really made a difference for me (in some respects).

I am a music teacher. This video has some funny moments, but then some really heart felt words. I started to tear up a bit, and I also pray that our community remembers all the things mentioned in this video when it is time to return to a face to face classroom. Also, please pray they don't cut Arts programs from schools either because our students need the Arts to help them better understand their feelings and the world around them. Music saves lives! and all other forms of art for that matter. We really care about our students, we really miss them. Most of all, I miss hearing them make music together. Thanks again for this video. Be well!

That is a good realization Dad! (Lol) Well , i am a high school teacher teaching Math and i know how this pandemic has changed everything, and so i created my you tube channel to help students do math during this distance learning. And this is a refresher for parents too. The lessons i have in my channel are the actual lessons i have in my class. I am teaching integrated math in high school. I hope this can be of help. Stay safe everyone.

I’m so appreciative of how teachers are getting the recognition they deserve! However, there are big changes that need to be made in our educational system. So many educators are looking at losing their jobs due to low student enrollment or budget cuts. Sending well wishes to all the teachers waiting to hear what their job status is.💛

Pandemic, teachers should not go back to work without getting a huge raise all the supplies they will need through out the entire year and a big cut in class size, we can do this. I do not know where to start to help teacher get their proper but we can do this. A million teacher walk out with parents and grand parents in support!!

I enjoyed having my little girl at home, I feel kind of nostalgic for the Pandemic lock down, we had fun....being an LAUSD family is frustrating because the district has so many problems and I’ve seen too many irregularities..,but I must admit Mrs. ___ went above and beyond “the call of duty”, she truly rose to the occasion, was always available even on weekends, constantly messaging parents and students with important reminders and links to valuable learning resources. She kept herself connected to her class, she has a teacher’s heart and really cared about their education. The “Principal” showed his true “leadership” when he went he went MIA, AWOL. Not a single solitary message to the school. Expected from someone who dared cuss out an immigrant parent who spoke little English. The teachers fully supported him, no one was outraged. Cray

I was just going through a mental breakdown of how many school assignments I have, but looking at this reminded me that TEACHERS ARE THE ONES GRADING THE WORK. For people who think that they have too much homework, I bet you that teachers wouldn’t give an extra assignment for no reason. They give the assignments as part of the curriculum. I have a stressful life and I’m not looking forward to high school, but I definitely will thank each and one of my teachers even if they give me 4 hours worth of work because truth is, the amount of time it takes you to complete your work is probably only half the amount of time it takes a teacher to grade them and still be behind. Any teachers reading this comment: I very much appreciate your work. I may get annoyed once on a while because you don’t answer my questions, but I hope you know that I do support you in what you do and wish the best! PS don’t take what this generation says about teachers seriously 😆 we are just joking and it is entertainment 😅

On top of Common Core, I had to learn dozens of new technology programs and all new strategies for online teaching. In spite of 10-12 hour days and working most weekends, we’ve been told not to expect any raise for years. I’ve been cussed out by four Moms this year, once over Zoom in the middle of my class. I know they are stressed too, but it’s hard to take. Thank you for just being appreciative. It means a lot.

Thank you so much, you are right, parents will forget. During what was the regular school year when parents were reached out to: voicemail is full, you have to dail every number on the Emergency form, if by chance you reached a parent, "why are you calling me he/she is your responsibili you are the teacher." Teacher's do not handle discipline problems we are educators. Teacher's can't get parents to potty train a seven year old who is in Pull-Ups, and most don't send a change if clothes. What is needed is a DCFS Representative in every school to see how the children come to school. Dirty clothes, no underwear hair not comb, terribly dustraught. Parents don't say we need schools open for learning. They say their if their children being home, they need a break, classic statement who is going to WATCH my kids, I have to go to work. Readers hope you get the point there is no teaching going on, babysitting sitting

So, come Fall 2020 when schools hopefully do resume their classroom instruction nationwide: NO MORE DRAMA!!! NO MORE: "I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO THIS!" NO MORE "I DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS IS!" NO MORE "HOW DO YOU DO IT?" NO MORE ASKING FOR FAVORS FROM TEACHERS. NO MORE BEATING AROUND THE BUSH WHEN YOUR KID IS STRUGGLING WITH ANYTHING, ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING. NO MORE SIMPLY HAVING FAITH IN THINGS AND PEOPLE WITHOUT ACTUALLY MAKING A SOLID EFFORT TO HELP TURN THINGS AROUND FOR EVERYBODY'S BETTERMENT. NO MORE LETTING (YOUR) KIDS RULE THE ROOST. AND ABOVE ALL ELSE: NO MORE BACKING DOWN FROM YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS PARENTS!!!!!!! IF YOU RAISE YOUR KIDS WELL, IT SHOWS--EVERY SINGLE DAY IN SCHOOL AND IN THE OUTSIDE WORLD. IF YOU RAISE YOUR KIDS POORLY OR DON'T RAISE THEM AT ALL, IT SHOWS--EVERY SINGLE DAY, IN SCHOOL AND IN THE OUTSIDE WORLD. WHEN PARENTS DO A GOOD JOB RAISING THEIR KIDS AND BEING GOOD ROLE MODELS, THEY SHOULD BE REWARDED. WHEN PARENTS DON'T DO A GOOD JOB IN ANY WAY, THEY MUST BE CALLED OUT! AND BY THE WAY, PARENTS ARE SMARTER AND MORE CAPABLE THAN MANY OF THEM THINK. YOU DON'T NEED A COLLEGE EDUCATION TO RAISE YOUR CHILDREN ON GOOD, MORAL, WHOLESOME VALUES AS HUMAN BEINGS! AND IF AN ACADEMIC CONCEPT LOOKS MIND-BOGGLING, JUST DO YOUR BEST TO TRY AND FIGURE IT OUT ALONGSIDE YOUR CHILD! JUST BEING BESIDE THEM AS THEY ARE LEARNING AND GROWING EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THEIR YOUNG LIVES MEANS MORE TO THEM THAN THEIR PARENTS WILL EVER KNOW. AND WATCHING THEIR PARENTS WORK HARD TO HELP THEM SUCCEED RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEIR EYES WILL SHOW THEM THE IMPORTANCE OF DEVELOPING A GOOD, SOLID, PERMANENT, LIFELONG WORK ETHIC WELL INTO ADULTHOOD AND PARENTHOOD OF THEIR OWN DOWN THE LINE.

I began ready the comments, as I often do before writing a comment, and was immediately struck with a comment from a teacher that was so incredibly negative, with a response from another teacher that added to the negativity, that I couldn't even try to read more comments. Perhaps the less taught school of etiquette should be reintroduced in schools... to the teachers. I'm absolutely certain that the majority of teachers are well learned in this, but the few that aren't, maybe learn to accept gratitude with grace, even if you feel that when this devastating time we are in passes, or at least subsides, that these sentiments will be forgotten, and the demands on teachers could be even greater, with possibly less monetary rewards. Maybe just say "thank you", or "you're welcome", or say nothing at all.

They worried more about how their students were doing than their own health. This should not come as a surprise. I taught grades K-2 and I will tell you that if there had ever been a bad guy in the building because he wanted to hurt or kill people he would’ve had to get through me to be able to do anything to my students. If the case had arisen I would have protected as many children as I could and even using my own body as a shield to try to save them from being harmed. Every Single day I walked into the school building and I never know whether or not this was going to be the day where the crazy bad guy got into the school and I was going to protect my students even if it cost my own life. My students knew this. I told them. So the next time you see a teacher you might be looking at a person who teaches your child or you might be looking at a person who would willingly sacrifice her own life to try to protect as many students as she could. No. Teachers don’t get paid nearly enough for the work they do and for protecting students also. But there’s no hazardous duty pay for teachers. There should be.

Thanks for the "I'm sorry" but common core isn't a curriculum. It's the same math we were all taught, but now we are all using the same standards across the states and districts. We are trying to teach them to not just memorize but to problem solve.

Problem with Common core is yes it's "Standardizing the states" but if you live in a particularly good, educational wise state, like Minnesota, the common core standards aren't as good as what we have. So Minnesota uses our own standards for mathematics. Also, he never actually called it a curriculum, although it basically is. You need to teach these specific standards or my school loses funding cause God forbid we help the struggling schools.
