Epic Beatdown at MWW! - 3.23.24

Got a few laps in and took a beating at the first drop on the comp channel, “Baptism”. Continuing to work on surfing, and going to spend some time working on hole escape. Montgomery Whitewater is the perfect environment for skills evolution… and carnage.

I missed the beatdown. :) Want to get better fast, catch every eddy, ferry across from eddy to eddy, paddle out of an eddy to catch the next eddy, paddling straight down doesn't really teach you anything. Work on rudders and braces, then bow draws. You have the perfect training spot, you can try over and over with little consequence, bombproof that roll and it won't matter if you flip.

This was in Montogomery, Ala? Will they train you? What does it cost, rental, course fees etc? I would like to try it, but I am a total new to this.

Montgomery, AL, correct! They have several options. You can rent an inflatable kayak or schedule a guided raft trip. I believe that costs around $50, don’t quote me though. As for hard boats, you can bring your own and paddle all day for around $25. They do have certified kayak instructors on staff who offer clinics and lessons. Check out their website!

@@Wavetrains Think thats what id do tbf, just need to try to swing the nose around a bit. Ive not paddled there (live in england) so i couldnt tell you how sticky it is but it looks like you just need a bit more practise changing edges while surfing.

I think it would be cool if they could throw a big lcd sign on the side of the pump house showing what they’re flowing.

@@Wavetrains they moved some of the blue on comp channel for the olympians. I actually broke a rib in the same spot you had trouble the end last year. I was in a demo 1/2 slice and was hyper extended on roll and think I hit a blue on my way back up. I love the place and not blaming them and will continue to go back

Dang! That wave is a booger if it surfs you into the wall. I love the park. It’s challenging for sure.
