UPDATE: on 18:02 on his channel he stated ask charges were dismissed by the judge. Now aside from that, in the US there is actually a law that states you cannot have anything protruding from your helmet more than 2mm but that is a law that applies only to the manufacturing process of the helmet. So only companies making helmets have to go with that law because otherwise the piece might get stuck in the ground or crack in asphalt during an accident and snap riders neck. However, you can add things like go pro because they are designed to break off even if they're screwed in because they're just made of plastic and they have multiple bending corners that it can snap from. But again the law doesn't apply to consumers. It's like how there's a law that manufacturers HAVE to install airbags. But if you buy a car and you remove all the airbags your car is still legal to drive. It's your choice to not have airbags. Your property. This guy was truly annoying yes, however he was actually in the right in this video. And that's why the judge dismissed all his citations.

@@KristianKumpula how would we know if its rare? Over the years, I've seen a few vids where they come off, the tape used to secure them does wear out over some time and especially in the sun/heat. Enforcing the cams be mounted with some type of hardware would probably be good, but also more of a pita for the state..idk, it is kind of a dumb law just like most of the laws - made because some people are too stupid to do things the right way.

All he did was guarantee himself a ticket, but that’s what his channel is about. Confrontation. He’s just a whiny little kid who serves no useful purpose. @Cletus Zimmerman again I don’t think he was being ballsy. He can’t choose what to enforce and what not to, that wouldn’t be him doing his job. The guy simply had to comply and give his details, if he said he would be fined or taken to corrupt over it then I understand then being a bit on the defence but still it should be done in court. The guy acted like he knew the law and he didn’t know a single thing nor did he comprehend the basic laws of the road and rights of the police officer. Gopro stop video (00:09:00) In virtually every state as a motorist you are required to provide your driver's license and, when required, insurance when stopped by an officer for a moving traffic violation. Be it speeding, reckless driving, or in this case a safety violation with a DOT approved helmet. That being said the law in question 49 CFR 571.218 only limits permanent fixtures to 2 mm on the outside of a helmet. The law doesn't prohibit temporary fixtures and fixtures not permanently bonded to a helmet. Fixtures that are ablative (meaning they can and will fall off during an accident thus not compromising the helmet) or those fixtures that do not hinder the efficacy of the helmet are perfectly allowed so long as they do not obstruct the user's vision or impair their ability to ride their motorcycle safely. Thus the officer has no legal standing to stop the motorcyclist in this video. No law explicitly prohibits the use of a camera on a motorcycle helmet, and there is no way to ascertain if the mounted camera is permanently affixed to the helmet or if it is ablative.

7:19 It's incredibly interesting that a California HIGHWAY [it's on the car] officer pulls over a motorcyclist on the streets for an infraction. An infraction is the type of crime for which jail can not be imposed. Any traffic violations are thus crimes and enough to pull you over. California Vehicle Code 2804 allows a California Highway Patrol Officer to require a driver to stop and inspect and submit for inspection upon a belief that any traffic violation took place The really fun part is, the ticket should show the state agency where the individual was pulled over, and the location. Effectively, the officer would have had to follow the motorcyclist from state highway into the city in order to issue the ticket. Which means that officer effectively targeted him. The County guy that was summoned should have been the one to write the ticket, or the city officer. But the Highway guy shouldn't have done it. The 'infraction' listed, however, is not in the California code of motorcycle safety. the infraction # he lists is about motorcycle helmets ONLY. that you have to wear one....so again, bullshit reason. "According to California Vehicle Code 27803, a person operating a motorcycle in California must wear a safety helmet." leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?lawCode=VEH§ionNum=27803 (a) A driver and any passenger shall wear a safety helmet meeting requirements established pursuant to Section 27802 when riding on a motorcycle, motor-driven cycle, or motorized bicycle. Absolutely nothing about mounting a camera [or a gopro] on the helmet in that code. "California Highway Patrol enforces laws on the state highways, county Sheriff enforces the law in the county and local police agencies enforce the law in chartered cities. In Los Angeles, LAPD enforces the law in the city, CHP enforces the law on state’s highways and LASD will often conduct patrol in unincorporated areas. " In the California DMV Motorcycle Guide, under "Helmet Use" [www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/motorcycle-handbook/preparing-to-ride/] It states : All riders and passengers are required per CVC §27803 to wear a U.S. DOT compliant motorcycle safety helmet when riding a motorcycle, motor-driven cycle, or motorized bicycle. The motorcycle safety helmet must be certified by the manufacturer stating the helmet complies with U.S. DOT Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 218 A U. S. DOT compliant helmet may be decorated by the owner with stick-on items such as decals, Mohawks, Viking horns, etc. and will not affect the safety properties of the helmet. Apparently, Viking Horns, or other stick-on items aren't illegal as by the code. There's nothing in the code specifically about GO-Pros or cameras. The 'infraction' the officer was citing is this: FMVSS 218 S5.5: Projections. A helmet shall not have any rigid projections inside its shell. Rigid projections outside any helmet's shell shall be limited to those required for operation of essential accessories, and shall not protrude more than 0.20 inch (5 mm). FMVSS 218 is a manufacturing standard, not a personal use standard. The discussion of rigid projection are there to prohibit the manufacture of any helmet with the described projections. They don't regulate the use of the helmet by riders. In other words, people can pretty much do whatever they want to the helmet after they purchase it. So, the officer; A) tailed him from the highway. b) lied about the infraction. c) pulled over the rider for ABSOLUTELY nothing, and d) parked in a handicapped space. The officer was full of shit.
